Lieutenant Fonck and his pet stork Helena on a train. June 1918.
I have no idea about the context of this picture, who Lieutenant Fonck was or why he had a pet stork, but it pleases me to post it here.
Rene Fonck was an ace in the Escadrille 103, Les Cigognes (The Storks), hence little Helena there.
Pilots have a tendency to collect odd animals as pets, like the Escadrille Lafayette (two lions, named Whiskey and Soda), or the Raven FAC’s in Laos in the 60s and 70s (Himalayan bears and a very angry tiger).
Well there you go, thanks for the info.

“I know…Aunt Coulter.”
It's so insanely heartbreaking when all you want is the core of the person you love, and to love them wholly and ferociously, and for them to not want you anymore in return. I don't know what to do with myself or my emotions or anything. Everything is spilling like an overflowing cup. It's hard to be heartbroken the other seems to be just fine
