If you're ever asking an autistic person to do something, be sure to explain why you want them to do it.
When I was a kid, I always kept the windows open when it rained. I saw no reason to close them even though my mom kept asking me to. She never gave a reason, so I never listened. She'd say it let the rain in and I'd think "no shit" and continue to keep them open. Eventually, she explained that it could cause mold. That made sense to me, so I started closing the windows. Simple as that.
When we first got cats, they kept jumping onto the counters. Once again, I saw no issue with this. My mom kept chasing them down and I couldn't figure out why. She'd get annoyed whenever I let them stay up there. Once she told me that it was unsanitary, I thought that made sense so I stopped letting them stay on the counter.
To an outsider (and probably to my mom at the time) it may have seemed like I didn't understand the instructions or was being intentionally difficult. But I can't just follow an order without a reason. I must decide for myself if the order makes sense before I follow it, and I need the logic behind it to do that.
So if you're asking an autistic person to do something, explain why it needs to be done. It's very hard for a lot of us to override that part of our brains.
Not to detract from this being about autism but this is something everyone always should have practiced all the time with everybody. “Because I said so” isn’t a valid reason to listen to anyone; not a parent, not a partner, not a boss or a cop or a whole government.
Interestingly this is a major part of why Alton Brown structured Good Eats the way it is. Not the autism, but the whole idea that people are more likely to do something if you explain why it’s important.
He apparently realized that people tended to skip a lot of steps in recipes because they seemed pointless or unnecessary, and other TV cooks/chefs never said why you needed to do it, they just said to do it, and the most they might add to stress its importance and necessity was “Now don’t forget this!” So he added segments explaining why the steps were actually necessary to get the best end result.
They talk about how we are rigid and bound to rules structures, but they never point out that we test the rules structures we adopt, first.
Or that ours are more inherently harmless. I mean, my rules structure says that I cannot skip the prologue of a book or the first chapter even if it’s a technical book on a subject I know well enough that I don’t need the first chapter. Their rules structure says it’s okay to look down on a person for wearing white pants on September 13. I know which one I think is more morally justifiable.
the thing abt diet culture is that there’s no way any junk food could possibly be more self destructive than viewing your own body as not only a separate entity from yourself but as an enemy to be conquered

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again: it’s more important to know and understand fully why something is harmful than it is to drop everything deemed problematic. It’s performative and does nothing. People wonder why nobody has critical thinking skills and this is part of it because no one knows how to simousltansly critique and consume media. You need to use discernment.
This is ultimately why propaganda is going to work on you. Because you never learned how to think for yourself and the actual ideology behind things. You simply rely on group think and the bare minimum explanations to tell you what’s good and bad.
Saw this article linked on twitter yesterday and…. yeah. YEAH.
No offense but a lot of you guys are fully supportive of ace people and aro people until one of us makes you feel a little bad about how the world literally revolves around sex and romance.
And like I want to make it clear that I'm not against sex positivity or romance. If you like/want that, good for you! But we as a society have to make room for those of us that don't, or at least don't prioritize it. We tend to put it on such a pedestal compared to other human experiences that it gets ridiculous. Little girls don't all dream about their wedding day. Boys don't all spend their teenage years experimenting with their sexuality. Like it's hailed as such a priority that even in LGBT+ spaces debate if we belong there. It's ridiculous!
And so many of you turn on us real fast as soon as any of us points that out or, Heaven forbid, pokes a little fun at it.
Those mods that replace female characters with male characters in games but keep the female animations really highlight how fucking insane and ridiculous the animations for women in video games usually are
Serious spine injury someone take that thing to the vet!
White boy off the shits!!
It looks perfectly normal on Link because he's just like that

Honestly the impact Sasuke has. Anytime someone describes an anime and there’s an angsty serious character they always go “they’re like the Sasuke of the show”. Sasuke is an adjective. A whole adjective. If you think your fav is different. Just know they’re not. Sasuke did it first. They can never be Sasuke.
“ yOu wAnt a PieCE of ME?” “YES!” *bites a bitch*
