Hey, CT, it’s been a while.
I’ll tell you my frustration when it comes to the folks on this board: I can’t show you what we want to do (and are doing) to answer many of your concerns. Yet.
Even when players get royally pissed off, I know it’s because you care. Sometimes, we human being type bods say something we shouldn’t when we get annoyed, frustrated or downright angry. That never comes from a place of apathy.
Of course, there are times when I get a bit sore when some folks go way over the top. Not usually about myself (I’m ugly enough to be comfortable in my skin), but I’m pretty protective of the Narrative discipline, so when some of the finest people I’ve ever known are accused of being various things, it does get to me a bit, I won’t lie. However, I know where those mistakes come from: a love of LoL from you, and a lack of visibility from us.
There is only so much visibility we can provide while still maintaining our ability to do what we do and, which is completely their choice, some people just prefer to be a bit more private.
We can still do better though, and I know we, and I, have been trying to do so. In the spirit of visibility, I was having a chat with someone who frequents these boards via DMs a while back (before my recent absence from here), about a variety of things that he was most gracious in keeping private. One of those things was a fun creative exercise I wanted to do with everyone on the boards (but haven’t been able to, I’ll do so tomorrow. Oh bugger, I just saw the time. Ok, later today).
Another topic that he called me on was the lack of understanding about leadership on Narrative, and I’ve seen some folks say there isn’t any leadership, which is, of course, incorrect. The gentleman in question also said that there’s a certain history (that I wasn’t completely aware of, to be honest) on these and the previous boards of having a name to attach certain things to about how things are developing on Narrative and lore.
As I’ve said before, Narrative doesn’t do story alone, it helps make stories and characters for teams, so we don’t ever decide things in a vacuum.
However, the person in DMs, an absolutely passionate player, said I should clearly state that I’m the Narrative Lead on League of Legends, mainly because it would help with transparency for the long-attending members of the boards. So, I just did.
With that out of the way (I didn’t say it specifically before that conversation because I didn’t really think it was important), and with clarity of where I’m coming from, let me state categorically that every single member of the Narrative discipline works tirelessly to create awesome things for the players. We succeed or fail together, but it is always because we want you to continue to love this game and this world in the way that we do. In the way that your appreciation, your passion, and yes, even your anger sometimes, drives us further onward to do better. That never comes from a place of hate.
Ever.

In response to a comment that the Narrative team "hates" players...

No hate, ever.

Kennen’s eyes widened as she sunk into the shadows, this was something he had only seen her do on a few occasions. It was something that was only done at the direst of times on missions, something Shen looks sternly upon as he looks around see’s the flurry of attacks, if there was one thing he was praised on and took pride in; it was his speed.

He dodged each blow, using rather obscure and not regularly taught methods of dodging as he streaked around her blows, turning into the very form of lightning as he streaked through the air dodging her blows, he sighed his breath growth tired as he felt his ankle grabbed, he let out a loud yelp as he’s tossed to the ground his face planted into the snow he let out a soft cough as he turned around to lay his back in the snow to see Akali standing over him, a Kama pointed right at his face, his eyes widened further, the calm yet understanding woman he looked up to meant business, she was not his sister at this time, but his teacher. He looked around trying to think of what he could do; something to distract her? He would then clutch a handful of snow in his cupped hands and in his arm as he swept it upwards towards her eyes, only hoping he’d hit his mark.

Snow in her face was hardly something Akali had been thrilled to receive but it was a point for the little rodent when all was said and done. Environmental weapons and improvisation were incredibly important in the field despite how so many looked down upon them.

But a point here or there was hardly enough to win her over tonight. When he had landed his assault she once more melted into a pool of inky blackness around him. Every inch of the forest was now his enemy; every shadow, every nook, and every cranny. Where the light did not touch, she could. And even with the full moon in the sky the shadows were growing long all around him. An eerie silence filled the air though movement was detectable. Yordle hearing was the only advantage he carried now; being able to hear the snakeskin sliding across the snow gave him some direction to face and be prepared from. If he could hear her motions over his own breathing, that is.

She waited, patiently, watching. His guard had to drop. It always did. And once it did, Akali struck. A handful of snow returned to its rightful owner, shoved down the back of his top. Cold, and a rather swift lesson in distraction. If he managed to avoid the strike she would have been impressed. If he did not, she fully expected to see him hopping about cursing.

The cold sensation of the snow was felt immediately as it was stuck into his hood, the young teen yelped as he hopped up and swung the hood off his head, as he looked around, “THAT WAS COLD!” he whined, as he noticed Akali sunk back into the shadows, his nose twitched, usually the night was never a bother for him, Yordle eyes could pick out light easily thus making his night vision better then average…but Akali’s abilities those that could rival maybe even Zed’s made this task hard for him, he would let his ears pick up the sounds around him, as he took a deep breath.

He would then stand stoic breathing in moderation as he motioned several hand mantra’s in quick precision and lets out a shrill scream stomping his foot on the ground, a strike of Thunder and lightning was seen as all the snow gathered on the tree’s fell as he darted his eyes around to see Akali’s slender form revealed by the snow as he dug his boot into the ground darting towards her at the speeds only three others could ever pick up on, he would then feint to distract Akali into thinking he’d jump for her, but instead slid on the ground planting his hands on the ground and pushing against it, twisting his arms making him launch at Akali like a corkscrew, his unorthodox method of hand to hand combat had always been something Shen and Akali had…questioned, but he self taught himself through his methods of rhythm and speed. Hopefully his kick would connect to her face, but Akali wasn’t a pushover, she could easily catch him…the punishment then…could be dire.

Face, no. She had been trying to wean Kennen from this rather frivolous and ineffective combat style for many a year so she was somewhat ready for him to throw her a curve ball. But when he launched himself, Akali had not quite estimated his direction and angle of attack. She leapt upwards to try to avoid the sliding tackle but caught the full force of his volt surge to the chest. With a cry of mixed pain and surprise she bowled over backwards and back into the snow. Now it was her turn to be on the defensive.

Eyes and mind reeling from the blow it took her a few moments to gather herself enough to blink the stars from her eyes. Breaths came short for the assassin. Narrowing eyes warned Kennen that he had truly poked the bear, but there was a glimmer of pride in those jade orbs as well. He had done well. Better than anticipated at that. Once more she rose and settled into a fighting stance, still unsteady from the attack. Waiting patiently for his next flurry, his next assault. She knew that it was coming, she simply needed to be patient.

Sometimes his own impatience was his undoing; it made him predictable. At least to a degree.

Lore of Legends

Coming from someone else who has honestly “Put a lot of work into their blog.” I have to disagree. Yes, this community is very toxic and people are assholes, but the little lore that allows this community to the things we do now is unacceptable from Riot. Sure, Riot wants to focus more on the e-sports and overall feel of the game, but that’s no excuse to kill off another section. The toxicity of this RP community will not be it’s downfall. There will always be another teen who wants to give RPing a shot. It will be Riot choking out it’s lore until it’s just about the e-sports. Communities can go on with assholes in it. They can’t go on without proper content.

I am not normally one to put my opinion into something, but we should not just “Get the fuck over it.” Riot needs to understand that this is a community, and that some of us like the game not just for E-sports. Some of us like it for the characters and lore.

[[Where do you get the idea that there’s no “proper content” floating around? Did you miss the point I tried to drive home about the extent and vast array of lore we’re now getting? Trundle, before and after the fact. Look at what he was versus where he is now.

Azir’s lore. Braum’s lore. Even Gnar has lore upon lore that drives deep into the history of Valoran and expands on several characters while dredging up very interesting questions.

Riot is not killing the lore. They are simply moving the lore to a place where those of us who care about it can see it and those who don’t don’t have to see it. The lore across the champions since the League was officially disbanded is better, deeper, more interesting and infinitely more engaging than anything they had done before.]]

This community will never even agree what to do with regards to new lore (some still do regular old lore, some do new lore, some do some weird mix). It's been nearly a year since the official announcement that there would no longer be an Institute in the canon lore and half the community is still grasping at straws instead of adapting to that. I think it's pretty hopeless, heh.

[[Unfortunately you’re probably right. And that’s fine, whatever, people are free to do what they want I guess. I’m still hoping that enough bricks to the head will change things. Maybe.]]

Listen up, assholes.

I see like 15 people bitching about the short lore (again) on my dash.

How many times does Riot have to say that these lore entries are for the client and that the longer lores will eventually be coded into the site?

At this point, you people are complaining just to complain. You also don’t seem to realize that you people can build on your character more and make them actually YOURS without a longer lore pigeonholing you.

Ya’ll will sit here and tell me all day “oh your portrayal of Sivir is great! Shurima seems so real when you write it!”

I wrote this entire character with only IronStylus saying “yeah when we rework her she’s gonna be shuriman and she’ll be like a Battle Jasmine.”

Before the shurima event, all shurima was was fucking sand.

Learn to stop being a bunch of complainers and fucking WRITE. Don’t wait on a company who runs a video game to give you everything. Riot has a million other things to do, and it’s always been our job to fill in the missing pieces. Fill in the canvas like I am, or quit your bitching because no one wants to see it.

It was the dead of the night, the sting of cold filled the air of Ionia as Kennen scanned the area, it was winter and he was usually asleep at this time as he wandered the woods, why was she having him meet her there? She said that this was an important test, what kind of test? His training has…

Once his eyes had graced her form, she melted. Back into the shadows all around him, displaying techniques and tactics long-since forgotten by the Kinkou. Perhaps they had not been forgotten; forbidden.

The next round of motions were entirely dependent on how fast Kennen could act and react. A blur of kicks and punches streaked towards him, assaulting the poor Yordle from every angle at once. Out of the shadows she struck, seemingly everywhere and nowhere all at once. There was nothing that this could have been besides a training session - for if not, she was trying to kill him.

The flurry of blows was followed by an attempt to snag the Yordle’s limb. If he was not fast enough, Akali would throw him airborne by his ankle and a spinning kick sent him skittering across the snow like a stone across a pond. If he was fast enough to avoid the attack, things would calm down considerably for a few moments. Enough for him to at least get his head back together and facing the right direction.

Kennen’s eyes widened as she sunk into the shadows, this was something he had only seen her do on a few occasions.
