"Seattle's hottest new paranormal romance is: 'Awooooo!' This book has everything: friends-to-lovers, matriarchal werewolf societies, and murder."
Plus! It's written by one of tumblr's own bi-con authors: @deweymydecimal
But seriously, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book! My understanding is that this series will be a love letter not only to werewolves and their mythos, but also the cities that shelter them. Well, as someone who has lived in Seattle for more than a decade, the author nails the ambience of this strange, technically-advanced backwater. Seattle is definitely a city where the old-world has an uneasy alliance with the new, which also perfectly describes how the werewolf dens of this fictional world relate to each other. I know, it may be odd for a romance-book review to focus so heavily on the setting, but it adds SO MUCH to the story, and is something that I rarely see other romance novels do well (if at all).
Now, how's the sex I hear you ask? STEAMY, a little KINKY, and with just the right amount of bestiality. I am a sucker for a well-executed friends-to-lover relationship, and this book does not disappoint! Technically, it's a friends-to-lovers-to-enemies-to-friends-to-lovers loop, which (imho) makes the hook-ups emotionally gratifying (as well as a total turn-on).
Also, let's talk character dynamics: the ladies ROCK in this one, y'all. They have the power, but they're also complex, charming, terrifying, and really damn charismatic. I also like how Marcus (our main man) was a badass, but also squishy/sweet on the inside.
Hmmmm, what else can I say? If you like your paranormal romance with a slice of murder mystery, than this book is for you! There are some serious JD Robb vibes, and the inherent danger of crime just makes things that much more titillating, ya' know? I'm over the moon (I had to sneak one pun in there) about this book, and can't wait for the next one in the series!!!
