This reminds me. One time when I was like 15 I moderated a minecraft server and this other mod I talked with on teamspeak thought I had an australian accent after hearing me barely say anything (i’m not australian) but for some fucking reason I didn’t say “oh i’m not australian that’s strange”, I just said I was australian and it became this huge thing where I had to stay up insanely late on school nights to moderate the minecraft server so I was in a time zone aligned with australia to keep this pointless bizarre lie going. Everyone on the server thought I was australian. I even changed the way I spelled words. This went on for YEARS. I still can’t comprehend why I would lie about something like that.

That reminds me.  My wife used to work for The Mouse in one of their theme parks, and so had many international coworkers; once, when Christmas was coming up, someone commented about it and, for no discernible reason, an Australian coworker replied with “What’s Christmas?” and pretended to have never heard of the holiday.  Shocked, the first person then sought out other Australian coworkers to ask if this was true, and every single one of them went along with it without the slightest hesitation, claiming that they didn’t have Christmas in Australia for no reason other than someone thinking that they didn’t.  They kept this up until an American pointed out that Australia had been a British colony, and definitely knew about Christmas.

TL;DR: Falsely claiming to be Australian for no reason at all may very well be the most Australian thing you could possibly do.

Don’t forget that the US civil rights bill only passed after six weeks of rioting that were the direct result of MLK’s murder. Peaceful protest paved the way, but violent protest got it over the finish line.

It’s understandable why the state would not want you know that, but that’s also why it’s imperative that you do.

king's family doesn't "believe" the FBI killed him, they know it for fact because the FBI admitted to it in a civil case brought against them in the early 90s. the court documents are a matter of public record. read them yourself. the king family won that suit against the united states fucking government for assassinating martin luther king jr

How to put “wrote fan-fiction” on your résumé:

Leveraged an inventory of established fictional character and setting elements to generate a disruptive custom-curated narrative entertainment asset.

I worked in HR, handling applications and interviews, and if someone turned in that string of techno babble nonsense, I would have rejected them out of hand.

A resume doesn’t need to sound fancy or overly technical, it needs to tell us why we should hire you.

“Independent novelist/writer” is more than sufficient here. If you want to express the skills that fan fiction taught you, something like, “creative writing, editing, and publication,” will get you a lot further than… Whatever that just was.

A resume should be tailored to the position, if you can afford the time and energy for that. But if not, then just think about what writing got fandom taught you. How to respond to criticism, how to present a professional pubic face, how to correct punished mistakes, creative thinking, project planning, persuasion via emotional leverage, html formatting, office suite fluency.

There are a lot of actual, marketable skills that go into fan fiction.

Wordle is running out of words. Only 2,000 five letter words remain. When that supply is exhausted the Creation shall begin. One day the word will be ZHURM, and all shall get it, and all shall understand it to mean "an ache from suddenly remembering a long-ago friend, who meant something to you once, but whose face you can no longer conjure". The next day the word shall be JOROL, and all will get it, and all will know it means "the melancholy confusion of passing by somewhere where you once could have died". The next day it will be GREFT, and all will understand it to be a small brown bird with white streaks found only in South America, and suddenly, it will appear, in the underbrush of the Amazon, in the streets of São Paulo, and all will know that it once was not there, but now, will always be

Public speaking is actually really easy if you don't respect a single soul in that room. I've had an incredibly easy time delivering speeches when I hated everybody I saw and they all thought I did amazing because my disdain was read as confidence. I don't have any tips for you I'm just telling you a fact
