have any of yall had a weird last few weeks or is that just me & everyone i know irl? bc theres something in the air i Swear

like ok:

-one of my neighbors was straight up murdered, the cops showed up, the people who manage my building sent out an email about it, and then we just. never heard anything about it again. i tried to check for news online but there’s nothing

-five separate people i know have had real bad mental breaks

-e v e r y o n e i’ve talked to abt it has been having vivid nightmares and/or trouble sleeping

-three separate people i know have been in unrelated car crashes

-one of my friends sisters just. disappeared into the woods for a few days

-a guy came up to me n my friend while we were waiting for someone else outside my building on the street yesterday and very seriously asked me where the haunted mannequin that looks out onto the street from one of our building windows is & wouldn’t accept me telling him I hadn’t seen one. he insisted it had been there since the building was built in the 90s even when i told him our building was only built two years ago

ok apparently there. is a mannequin. also it was apparently put there to replace a watchman that was murdered and listen. im not gonna say this possibly haunted mannequin has been wrecking havoc in my life and also may have murdered my neighbor but im also not NOT saying that

barnyard the original party animals is the uncontested lord of bad implications in childrens movies

ok so like “the secret life of x” movies tend to not strongly explore the actual reasons why, exactly, their life has to be secret… they don’t really focus on it within the narrative. They do usually have some small justification for why animals or video games or toys or whatever have never just revealed themselves:

  • There’s no stated reason. They just pretend to not be alive. We usually can suspend our suspension of disbelief here because when it’s something like a video game or an emoji because any odd occurrences is perceived as a glitch or something similar but the actual reason why they aren’t too hung up on this kinda shitty lot in life isn’t said
  • They get something out of their current relationship with humans (like in toy story)
  • They have some specific reason to hide that they’re alive, like they die if they’re seen (like in the christmas toy)
  • They perceive themselves as sentient, talking creatures, but humans can’t understand them. They just see a squeaking mouse or an inanimate hot dog or whatever.

and the last one is what most animal movies do, and it’s like, not devoid of weird implications but you can see where it mostly works.

but barnyard is the outlier here: it goes with tier one: the animals can talk and walk on two legs but just pretend that they can’t for unstated reasons.

in the history of the barnyard world non human animals, at some point, decided to just pretend to be unable to speak. a “cow” or a “coyote” or a “hen” do not exist as we know it in the barnyard universe. the baa of the sheep is false; the ewe doesn’t understand it either. they only made up that noise to hide the fact that they speak human languages. a dog barking and running on all fours is a facade. animals naturally walk on their hind legs and made up whole postures just to appear non sentient.

and for what? what do they gain from this? they have no rights and no voice by their own choice. at one point a donkey claims the farmer is a good person because he’s vegan and a pig mentions bacon - this is not a fantasy universe devoid of death and misery and meat. do animals, in hushed whispers, remind their children not to sob in their real voice as they’re taken away? do the dogs not beg for kindness when they’re tied up and hit? do cows and chickens not cry for their life in the slaughterhouses? does a rat not scream a human scream when the trap misses their neck and only breaks their spine? Why? what is the point? They loose so much and have everything to gain.

anyways does everyone remember this really awful cat. it only appears in one scene but i can just sense the porn of it that would pop up if i googled it’s name

This post is like being tied to a chair as a a joker-style villain monologues and presses a gun closer and closer to my head as he reaches the climax of his rehearsed piece on the flaws of society and when he finally pulls the trigger it’s a little flag that says “bang!”

man that’s not just a heck of a read it’s fuckin GROUNDBREAKING is what it is!

this dude actually found a large fossil deposit that was created not just close to, but actually DURING THE K-PG EXTINCTION EVENT.

IT’S LITERALLY A WINDOW BACK IN TIME TO THE CHICXULUB IMPACT, AND TURNS OUT IT WAS WORSE THAN ANYTHING WE COULD POSSIBLY HAVE IMAGINED

it’s a geologic snapshot of the apocalypse.

reading the full article is certainly a trip, and to summarize for those who are intimidated by longer reads:

- chicxulub is the given name for the meteor that struck/initiated the event

- the paleontologist within is described as making groundbreaking discoveries of multiple species every day, but many of his peers discount him because they’re grouchy old dudes he accidentally had a fragment of a turtle bone involved in a larger reconstruction of a fossil this one time and they won’t let him live it down.

- the extinction event was so fast and so destructive, this guy describes this particular dig-site as being so densely layered with dead and dying creatures, there is a lot of organic tissues that have been preserved, and he is able to even discern that many of the marine and freshwater fish may have still been alive as they were buried due to molten glass being found in their gills, implying they were still attempting to breathe.

- they looked into exactly when and how this could have happened, having freshwater and marine animals stacked on top of mammals and larger dinosaurs (including an amazing deinonychus forearm discovery he was able to match to feather fossils he was finding atop the pile), and rather it being the initial tsunami, they are fairly sure that it was caused by a seiche of catastrophic proportions, which would have been set off within the first hour of the event. denser and larger creatures sunk to the bottom, leaving lighter debris like leaves, small fish, feathers, and molten glass on the surface.

summary: terrifying!

Emotional labor is often invisible to men because a lot of it happens out of their sight.

Emotional labor is when my friends and I carefully coordinate to make sure that nobody who’s invited to the party has drama with anyone else at the party, and then everyone comes and has a great time and has no idea how much thought went into it.

  • Emotional labor is when I have to cope, again, with the distress I feel at having to clean myself in a dirty bathroom or cook my food in a dirty kitchen because my male roommate didn’t think it was important to clean up his messes.
  • Emotional labor is having to start the 100th conversation with my male roommate about how I need my living space to be cleaner.
  • Emotional labor is reminding my male roommate the next day that he agreed to clean up his mess but still hasn’t.
  • Emotional labor is reassuring him that it’s okay, I’m not mad, I understand that he’s had a very busy stressful week.

Since men feel the need to gain as much power and control as they can, they steal away power and control from women.

They deny women the right to make decisions so that they can make them for them, leave women unable to direct their own lives so that they can direct their lives for them.

Ultimately, they’re trying to increase their sense of significance and status, in an effort to offset the discontent and sense of lack created by humania.

Deciding to cite it anyway base on the abstract, knowing your professor probably won’t go through and look up every source in works cited
