It wasn’t really intented, but it also kinda fits to the Naluween Week - Day one: Pumpkin 🎃 ^^

Took forever until I was a bit happy with this. This one is so out of my comfort zone in every way! But I simply love the movie “Coco”, and had to draw this for this prompt, specially considering what day is today (I know I’m late, sorryyyyy)! I hope you like it too!

Chapter Eighty-One: Try not to scream

(June 1st, 2018, Friday Evening)

“I swear the guy’s a ninja,” Natsu said, shaking his head as he chewed. He didn’t bother closing his mouth while speaking, surprised Erza hadn’t commented on his manners throughout dinner.

Jellal and her had been reserved since announcing they would be joining the runners next week, so Natsu took it upon himself to tell them about their new ‘coworkers’. He figured the more familiar with them, the easier it would be transitioning into the job.

“And that’s Dobengal?” Ezra asked, earning a nod from Natsu.

“I know you’ve seen him around here before, but when he goes off base he’s always wearing a mask and stuff.”

“Is that why he’s like a ninja?”

Despite shoving a forkful of food in his mouth, Natsu was ready to answer. However, before he could get a word out, Lucy put a hand on his shoulder. The attempt to silence him was effective.

“I think he said that because Dobengal moves fast. The way he maneuvered around a sprinter today, you’d think the zombie was standing still. It almost looked like he was teleporting.”

Lucy laughed, the sound easing Natsu’s body. He smiled, nodding as he added, “He’s kinda full of himself sometimes, but he’s a good guy.”

Chapter Seventy-Six: Cabin in the woods

(May 30th, 2018, Wednesday Evening)

“It’s him,” Lucy said, staring down at the corpse. Laxus and Cobra dragged it out of the house, laying the body by the porch.

She didn’t want to admit her limits, but she couldn’t bring herself to go inside that house. There was nothing left for her, no memories she wanted to hold.

Virgo’s body was somewhere inside, but what was left was in pieces. Ivan’s group tore her apart after Null accidentally killed her, strangling her to death. They feasted on her body for days, even forcing some down Lucy’s throat.

Her stomach burned at the thought, acid rising as the urge to throw up made itself known. She pushed it down. There were a lot of things she pushed down, refusing to face.

“How can you be sure?” Cobra asked, his tone lacking judgment.

Lucy understood his concern. The body was late in the decomposition stage, but the clothes were the same. “Those are his boots.”

She did her best to stay steady while thoughts of getting kicked in the stomach flooded her head. He had been proud of those boots, the bastard demanding she wipe them off every so often.

She refused most times, resulting in further beatings.

“One of his guys wouldn’t wear them?” Gray asked, causing Lucy to take a deep breath.

She squeezed her hand, fingers laced with Natsu’s. He had offered it when they said they were going to bring Ivan’s body outside, and she hadn’t refused. She wanted to be strong, but even looking at the lake house had her body reacting.

Her mind screamed for her to run, to escape that horrid place.

‘The danger’s over.’

Chapter Seventy-Three: Home Sweet Home

(May 29th, 2018, Tuesday Afternoon)

Despite the heat clinging to her face, Lucy worked up the courage to enter the living room. Her breath caught when she realized Natsu wasn’t there, a ball of dread forming in her stomach. ‘Did he go outside? Is he avoiding me because he saw me naked?’

“Natsu?”

“In here,” he called, coming out from the other bedroom with a few items in his hands.

Lucy would have sighed in relief if not for Natsu’s brief eye contact, his gaze quickly dropping to his hands as he cleared his throat. “Um, which color do you want?”

“What?” Lucy blinked, realizing he was holding nail polish. There were four different colors, the pink standing out to her. It reminded her of her bedding back in her dorm. “Why do you have those?”

“For you,” he said, slowly trailing his eyes up before they dropped again. She resisted slumping her shoulders, understanding it was awkward for him too. Maybe attempting to seduce him was a bad idea? Her chest strained against the material, Lucy thankful it wasn’t chilly in the room.

“Am I painting my nails?” she asked, earning a nod from Natsu.

“I’d offer to do it for ya, but I’d probably screw it up,” he admitted, a sheepish smile gracing his lips. His cheeks held a soft blush, Lucy taking pity on him as she nodded. Her belief that she went braless too soon solidified. How was she supposed to know if his reactions were caused by her current attire or what happened in the bathroom?

“Fair enough. Um—” She looked at the colors again before making her selection, “I’ll use pink.”

“Pink it is.” He moved to the floor, resting his back against the couch before patting the spot beside him.

Chapter Seventy-Two: Let it be grand- Part Two

(May 29th, 2018, Tuesday Afternoon)

“Just a little further,” Natsu said, his hand resting on the belt around his hips.

Lucy dragged her eyes away before glancing around, seeing there were no threats, the area quiet. They had left base a few minutes ago, immediately heading into the neighborhood she had escaped to months back.

It felt like a lifetime ago when Gray came bursting into their room, screaming at her for putting Natsu at risk. Her heart pinched, thankful he hadn’t lost his life that day. She would have been hurt by the loss then, but now…

It tore her up even thinking about losing him.

Chapter Seventy-One: Let it be Grand- Part One

(May 29th, 2018, Tuesday Morning)

Light flickered across Lucy’s eyelids. She squeezed her eyes tight, trying to block out the pesky sun, but it was no use. She knew she had to get up soon, but it was her day off. Who could blame her for wanting to sleep in?

She wanted to rest, but soon her belly would grumble. The call for food was always too tempting to pass up, even if the bed was beyond comfortable.

Not only was it warm and soft, it was spacious, not that she ever got to take advantage of its size. She rarely got to stretch out, Natsu often sleeping next to her if he wasn’t outright cuddling her.

Lucy couldn’t blame him. She had started the trend five weeks ago when she had a nightmare. It had been unbearable, and Natsu was kind enough to let her crash in his room. He also let her confide in him, showing her he was not only a great listener, but a good confidant. She knew, felt it in her heart that he wasn’t going to go spilling her secrets. If it wasn’t for the safety of the base, he never would have told Makarov about Ivan, and she fully understood that now.

That night she bared her soul, telling him about one of the worst days of her life, as well as some other shitty things that had happened in her past. He hadn’t judged her for a single thing, hadn’t treated her differently after that, and knowing his opinion of her hadn’t changed meant more to her than she could express.

Her safety in him only grew, finding inner peace when she was with him.

Natsu let her seek out physical comfort as well. She had cuddled him first, but by the end of that night they were both holding each other as he fell asleep.

Sleep hadn’t come easily for her that night, plagued by fear until exhaustion won. While the nightmares had calmed down, only occurring on occasion, Lucy still found herself taking up residence in his bed more often. Twice a week for the past five weeks, always the night before her day off.

It started when Lucy hung out with Natsu in his room that following Friday, talking about ‘Game of Thrones’ until she got sleepy. He had offered her the bed so she didn’t have to walk down the hall to her room. While she knew she needed to go brush her teeth and sleep in her own bed, Lucy accepted his offer.

With him in the bed, of course. She couldn’t make him sleep on the floor in his own room after all.

Since then, the excuses grew flimsy until they didn’t use any at all. She started pocketing her toothbrush and toothpaste on the nights she wanted to stay over, Natsu taking the hint each time.

It was unspoken, but Lucy felt it. He liked sleeping next to her just as much as she wanted it too. They fit together nicely, whether it was Natsu curled around her or her cuddled against his back.

Currently Natsu was sprawled out over her, one heavy arm across her stomach while his ankle hooked hers. He certainly hadn’t started in that position, the two shifting in their sleep to get comfortable.

And Lucy was definitely comfortable. Maybe too much.

Through his stomach

They say the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.

While Lucy thought that was a cliché, Gajeel was convinced that was true for Natsu.

He suggested she give him food to express her feelings, and it was hard to argue with the logic behind it. Natsu loved food, never passing up an opportunity to eat.

So, two weeks after asking Gajeel for help, Lucy tried to confess to her best friend. She started with a packet of hot sauce from their favorite taco shop. Each one had a funny saying on the back, and Lucy snagged one that said ‘I’m up for it if you are’.

She had it all planned, asking Natsu to eat lunch with her outside. They were alone, something that was usually a comfort but with what Lucy planned, she felt jittery. She made her move halfway through their meal, pretending to realize she had a packet of hot sauce in her bag before offering it to him.

In hindsight, she should have been more direct.

Chapter Seventy: Share

(April 24th, 2018 Tuesday Midnight)

“Can I stay here tonight?”

Natsu’s jaw went slack before he moved out of the way, not thinking as he gestured for her to enter. “What’s wrong?” he asked, watching as she squeezed her bedding to her chest before ducking her head.

His heart sank as she avoided his gaze, but worry soon outweighed everything else. Lucy mumbled something as she ventured into the room, her voice so soft even his sharp ears couldn’t detect it.

She walked over to the space her bed used to be when she first moved in, setting her pillow and blanket on the ground. Natsu only jolted out of his state of shock when Happy started meowing, circling Lucy before climbing on her blanket.

With his head buzzing with questions, Natsu locked up. He rubbed at his eyes, ridding himself of the last remnants of sleep. There was no way he was resting now, not until he figured out what happened to her.

What caused her to seek him out in the middle of the night?

Dread filled his stomach as he approached her. He wanted to ask why she showed up so late at night, but the words died in his throat when he realized she was setting up a makeshift bed.

With a shake of his head, Natsu said, “Take my bed. I’ll sleep on the floor.”

“It’s your room,” Lucy said, crouched by her bedding as she looked up at him over her shoulder.

His response vanished as soon as their eyes locked, Natsu unsure why he felt lighter for a second. It didn’t last long, Lucy tearing her gaze away from him to get back to folding her blanket for padding. He swallowed, pushing aside their sleeping arrangements for more pressing issues.
