But I just couldn't resist the ✨ drama ✨ of the Sarah Cothran version. 🤣⁣ ⁣ I've wanted to attempt to write thiiccccc juicy Eric Whitacre-style chorale harmonies for AGES... Crazy 11th and 13th chords everywhere. 5ths in the bass line for emphasis. SO MUCH DISSONANCE?!!?!? But whenever I've tried to arrange a whole song that way I get overwhelmed and don't finish - taking just the climax of this song was perfect.⁣ ⁣ So there's the arranging challenge... Then how on earth do you mix the sound of 7 string parts, make each part audible, AND still make the solo part stand out above it??? ... And then there was this Bo Burnham - "Inside" projector video lighting nonsense I wanted to try 😵 ... But the values tend to be different.⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ In classical violin there's such a huge emphasis on perfectly even, clean runs. Clear tone. Nuance of dynamics. Kind of the opposite side of the musical world from the raw power of death metal.⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ I definitely sat for hours with this solo slowed down, trying to pick out the actual notes he's playing and going 😬😨😰🥲 at the uneven parts and the patterns that just aren't meant to be played on violin... And I prepped it like a classical nerd too! Metronome work up and everything. I thought I'd come up with a "super clean" version of the solo, but maaaaan did it not work out that way. 🤣 ⁣⁣⁣ In the end... idk... Virtuosity is subjective. Sanitized perfect runs are overrated in the face of an overall powerful performance. ✨Labyrinth of Jareth Masquerade Ball✨⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Ooph, I’ve got so many neat violiny things I’ve wanted to post, but my computer’s graphics card just up and DIED... leaving me with no way to edit video uhuhuhuhu 😭 ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ So for now, here’s pictures from The Ball, which I got to go to with my resident Fancy Dressups Associate @slav_the_human ⁣⁣ I’d only ever attended it as a performer before so it was amazing to get to really see all the sights... the vendors, the different rooms, the COSTUMES OH WOW... goblins and ghoulies and fey things slinking out from the dark. Proper Marie Antoinette courtly ladies and people in ridiculous smoking full Warcraft Armor *___*... Many of them lovingly homemade with the utmost care for the most minute details .⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I was just a simple flower in this greenhouse of ridiculous exotic costumes, but lemme tell you bout my outfit because I was super pleased with it ~__~ .... The dress I found at a $1 parking lot sale at @jetragvintage ... unworn, tags still on, huuuge skirted Dave’s Bridal gown and used for a scavenger hunt where I glued a few hundred black beans to it (If you swipe to the last pic you’ll see what it once was) .... but that’s unwearably too heavy and long for a ball! Also... beans?🤨 ...so I pinned and tucked and bustled that thing (and it still has all those beans, believe it or not), modded out a simple red necklace with at least 3pds of glass beads XD... and these gorgeous eyelashes I found and am still in love with *____* aahhh⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ So happy with it, even though it was pretty simple, comparatively ~__~⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Also particular love for the Pennywise couple... Their outfits were spot on and they were 𝟏𝟎𝟎% 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐩𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐫 O__O ... you almost thought they might drag you down into the drainage. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Just one of the beautiful ways I got to see the nerdy, imaginative side of all these people - young and old - shine at LoJ.
