Letter's of a Knight to be

@darren-of-cailburry / darren-of-cailburry.tumblr.com

Alright peasants, I'm Darren Radner. I'm not exactly sure how to use this thing, looks like magic to me. But Shiel said it wasn't, so make my time here worth it. (Indie AU Darren from Warrior U. No images are mine unless stated otherwise.I track the tag 'darrenofcailburry') *Muti-ship friendly*

"Sounds great to me!" Darren led the way, no one seemed to care that a ‘peasant’ boy and a peasant girl were walking around together. If only it was as normal as he wanted it to be.

Darren hummed cheerfully as he led Eunice through town.

Oh dear, Eunice was feeling a pang of anxiety. She wasn’t nervous that someone would notice Darren or something along those lines. She was just…afraid she would do something foolish in front of him.

She kept holding onto Darren’s hand, giving it a tight squeeze every now and then to make sure this was really happening.

Darren glanced behind him, raising an eyebrow at Eunice. She had this face on, one she always had when she was feeling nervous or upset about something. Well shit.

"What's wrong, Eunice?"

"I don’t think so. You’re the lady, not me. I’m not running off into the sunset with you if you don’t want to go to where we’re going. You pick." They had left castle grounds, and were nearing the village.

Eunice shifted her eyes toward Darren, then up ahead. In truth, she had absolutely no idea where she wanted them to go. She shrugged her shoulders.

"M-maybe…w-we could s-stop at t-the b-bakery…?"

"Yes, it’ll be a lot of fun. Just for a day I’m not Darren Radner, I’m just Darren, okay?" If he was lucky, a day of freedom with the girl he liked would be enough and he could just go back to his life as usual without feeling that emptiness.

He probably wouldn’t be so lucky. “Where shall we go first? Name a place you like!”

"U-um…I-I think y-you s-should ch-choose." Eunice stammered out, offering the squire another smile, a rosy blush settling in on her cheeks. She drew in a deep breath before casting her gaze up toward the sky.

"Well, We’ll start with in town. Then just go from there. Adventures aren’t really something one can just plan, otherwise it wouldn’t be much of an adventure. Why, is it that bad for me to just spirit you away?"

He sounded cheerful. He felt…free. Being a noble means manners, nagging, politics, and so many problems. Being a peasant seem far more desirable. If he was a peasant, he could be free to do many things. Things he almost desperately wanted to do.

Eunice bit her lip, “N-no. But…I-I…” She shook her head. “J-just wanted t-to kn-know, is a-all.” She admitted and lightly squeezed Darren’s hand. “T-this’ll b-be fun.”

"Nope." He finished getting undressed and then redressed, he hide his clothes in his own stable bags, and then pulled a hat onto his head. He looked the part, except he wasn’t nearly as dirty as he probably should be.

"Good enough. I’m not rolling around in mud, so this will have to do. Let’s go." He kept the belt pouch on him, it had money and his family crest in it, just in case. He took Eunice’s hand again and left the stables with her, heading off castle grounds.

…oh goodness.

He was undressing. Eunice covered her blushing face with both hands and waited until he got dressed again, and squeaked when Darren grabbed her hand. She quickly followed him out of the stables, a little flustered.

"W-where a-are we e-even g-going t-though?!"

"Excellent! We’ll go now." Darren grabbed Eunice’s hand and pulled her with him. No warning, no packing or preparing. He had plenty of money already with him, in his belt pouch. One day of adventure, wouldn’t hurt right.

Though, there was one thing he had to take care of first. He went right into the stable, where the stable hands stayed, and stopped. “One moment, Eunice.” With that, he pulled off his tunic and started taking some of the stable hands clothes. No one else was there, no one had to know. Besides, he couldn’t run around on an adventure in nice silk clothes. He’d ruin them.

The blond girl followed behind Darren and stopped, tilting her head to the side as she continued watching him closely. At first, she had no idea what he was doing, but then she realized it and nodded.

"A-alright, are u-um…a-are we r-ready to g-go?" Wait, where were they even going?

~Starters are Evil~

Darren’s hike into the mountains near Cailburry was far from relaxing. It was the rainy season, so it wasn’t exactly beautiful either. Too much wetness. Originally this had been a training thing, but he ditched his dad and his dad knight ‘friends’ a while back to just run around the mountainside alone.

There was a nice view from where he was standing, he could see all of Cailburry. If he could only just keep going he wouldn’t have to go right back to all the manners, backstabbing, liars, nagging, and complaining at the castle.

Darren pulled the hood farther over his head, trying to block the rain from his eyes. He’d gotten lost from his father and Shiel forever ago, and now he was wandering in the rain, lost in the mountain side without a clue as to where he was. Thankfully it hadn’t begun to get dark, aside from the grey clouds covering the area, so he still had time to find his way back. At this point, he’d decided going up would be the best idea, he could find which direction to go and just head that way.

Through the fog he spotted a tall, lean figure. Who else would be out in weather like this? Were they lost as well?  "Hello?" He called out, continuing his trudging up the path.

Darren shivered and then stiffened as he heard a strangers voice and movement. He didn’t have a sword with him, but he did have a dagger neatly hidden in a secret pocket. He wasn’t completely defenseless.

He stood completely still, waiting to see if he’d been spotted and waiting to see if the stranger decided to get close enough for Darren to be able to adequately defend himself.

Darren finally got close enough to them, the rain still blurring his vision a bit as he tried to make out if he knew them or not. He took the hood down, hoping that whoever this was was trustworthy enough not to attack him- he doubted they weren’t, after all what kind of evil would just stand on a mountain side over looking the town?

"Are you lost as well? Or just travelling through?" He was trying to stick to being polite, deciding it’d be safer for him to stick that way just in case they WERE dangerous.

Darren stayed still. This voice of this stranger sounded really familiar, and yet not familiar at the same time. It was really odd. He sighed.

"Just passing through. Why are you all the way up here, stranger?" He probably shouldn't have left his group behind like he did, he hadn't accounted for the danger of being alone and practically defenseless.

Stupid, stupid, stupid...

"Hiding from my dad. It’s great that you’re off work though, you can run away with me." Darren gave Eunice a grin. "We’ll have an adventure! Sounds like fun, right?"

image

"T-that DOES s-sound l-like f-fun." Eunice nodded quickly, the smile never fading from her lips as a small blush appeared on her cheeks. "L-let’s do i-it."

Darren abruptly turned around, fearing he’d been found by the ones he didn’t want to find him, and was relieved to see Eunice. Not who he was expecting, but welcome.

"Eunice! I thought you’d be working."

"N-not t-today!"

Eunice sounded pretty cheerful, “W-what have y-you b-been up t-to?” She rubbed the back of her neck and offered him a small smile.

It wasn’t exactly normal for Darren to be out of the library this early. After training he usually sat around reading for ages. This time he was hiding from his father, outside, near the stables.

Eunice went through the courtyard and began heading toward the stables. Spotting Darren nearby, she quickened her pace and skidded to a halt once she was close enough.

image

"D-Darren!" She called out.
