my favourite lyrics out of wasteland, baby!:
- “it’s the light, and it’s the obstacle that casts it“
- “be still, my foolish heart, don’t ruin this on me”
- “i’m put in awe of something so flawed and free“
- “there’s no race to be run, the harder the rain, honey, the sweeter the sun”
- “i’d be appalled if i saw you ever try to be a saint, i wouldn’t fall for someone i thought couldn’t misbehave“
- “you don’t have to sing it nice, but honey sing it strong; at best, you’ll find a little remedy, at worst, the world will sing along”
- “like a cry at the final breath that is drawn, remember me, love, when I’m reborn”
- “imagine being loved by me”
- “be like the love that discovered the sin that freed the first man”
- “i’d suffer hell if you’d tell me what you’d do to me tonight”
- “the sound of the saw must be known by the tree“
- “my sunlight”
- “all the things yet to come are the things that have passed: like the holding of hands, like the breaking of glass”
bonus from the ep:
- “if i was born as a blackthorn tree, i’d wanna be felled by you, held by you, fuel the pyre of your enemies”
- “the reason comes on the common tongue of your loving me“
WASTELAND, BABY ! ! ! ! ! !
what she’s thinking: in general, wasteland baby isn’t just about sex for the sake of horniness and gratification. hozier very intentionally avoids lyrics that would objectify or degrade his hypothetical partner in any way and tries to remain gender neutral as much as possible to keep his music inclusive and relatable to all, regardless of sexual orientation and gender, and he does this not to claim superficial Woke points or as a marketing strategy, but because of the overarching theme of the album. the songs on the album are about making love in a genuine sense with an emphasis on love and how in a time so turbulent and fraught with war and hatred and inhumanity and cruelty, it’s important that we find ways to celebrate our humanity and ability to connect with one another through love and spirituality.
what she says: hozier be….horney
The thing that’s really unique about the work: it treats his audience with respect. People are really hungry for that now. People are able to know when they’re being fed homogenized and factory-produced music, and they’ve had enough of that.
I won’t corroborate that. I am a panderer…an absolute peddler of muck.
Hozier: Movement (Coming Wednesday)
Hozier by Lee Malone
“The last year has been mental, but I don’t feel famous. Things are going great and I’m very happy, but I’m not famous.”
“The song is called Better Love and it’s about reassuring, having seen how hostile and how brutal the world is, I suppose, you can kind of come to a rather cold conclusion that there is no better love outside of that which you find in your lover, and therefore you redress your view of the world in the arms of that person…”

When you’re an introvert like me and you’ve been lonely for a while, and then you find someone who understands you, you become really attached to them. It’s a real release.
