21 year old transgender female Islan Nettles died after being savagely beaten to death by her attacker Paris Wilson. According to witnesses, Wilson was shouting homophobic and transphobic slurs before being pulled off the victim by police. Wilson only received misdemeanor assault charges that were dropped after only spending 10 hours in jail… Today he is walking free in New York City. He has not been charged with murder. Islan was an aspiring fashion designer who’s dreams were cut short by the same type of hate crimes that have taken the lives of countless other lgbt youth. Spread the word about this injustice and raise awareness about savage hate crimes like this towards lgbt youth. #Regram #Justice4Islan

Hey if you’re cis please don’t make original posts on the topic of Leelah’s death. Reblog non-cis people’s, specifically and especially trans women’s, posts. Spread the voices of oppressed people; don’t create your own discourse. We have been silenced enough.

I wanted to make a post about Leelah Alcorn but I lack the requisite words to describe how I feel. But this is exactly what it should be like. Leelah’s death is a heartbreaking tragedy and it should leave everyone speechless. That being said, however, we cannot simply sit back and mourn her by reblogging text posts and saying how messed up this is. In her note, she said that she wanted her death to mean something. So please, help her rest in peace by helping all you can and adding resources you find below. We can make a change. You matter.
