Ending the stigma of drug use will save lives.

“Never Use Alone” is a number you can call when you have no choice but to use when you’re alone.

If you call (800) 484-3731, an operator will answer your call, and ask for your first name, location and whether you have any allergies, or medical conditions. After you’ve given us this information you can go ahead and inject your substance. After you’ve ingested the substance, we will continue communicating with you. If you do not respond after 30-45 seconds, we will notify emergency services of a possible overdose at the location you’ve given us.

We will never shame you, judge you, or preach at you to quit. If you are ready to quit though, we have treatment resources for every state in the US. Regardless if you have insurance, or not. We will do our best to connect you with the help you need. please call. We are on standby.

This seems like a solid and real thing, I did my best to vet them and found their FB: https://www.facebook.com/Neverusealone/

They also seem to help with getting Narcan.

holy shit this can actually save Real Lives like dudes this isn’t a joke and isn’t to be passed off

Never Use Alone doesn’t have an app (yet) but there are two apps that can be used all over the world. One that is available only on iOS last time I checked is The Canary Overdose prevention app and the other is Be Safe by The Brave Coop. They are both very easy to use.

from this reddit thread that has a lot of people talking about the hotline, including sharing their own experiences. additionally, it looks like there are also similar overdose prevention hotlines in other countries now, such as canada and scotland

For those in the notes wondering about their cop policy, here’s what they say on their website’s FAQ:

All operators are harm reductionists. Our goal is to reduce harm, not increase it, by getting you arrested. Our hope is that only EMS responds, but the truth is, we cannot guarantee that. To reduce the chances of the police showing up with EMS, when we call EMS, we report it as an “unresponsive person”, rather than an “overdose”. When you call 911 and report an “overdose”, a lot of times, police will automatically respond to those calls. So, by reporting it as an “unresponsive person” it reduces the chances of police responding.

They also say that all of their volunteers have personally experience with substance use, and that they do not accept volunteers employed by addiction treatment centers.

doubly funny that I saw a compilation of all the corporate accounts like "aw thanks elmo, we're doing well" meanwhile all the flesh and blood real human people are extremely not okay

Okay but Elmo had actually the best and sweetest response to all this trauma dumping:

And then all the other Sesame Street character accounts joined in:

And now I’m thinking maybe we’re gonna be okay… 💗

(Comment compilation from this Twitter)

I kinda feel for the poor person running Elmo's Twitter.

"So, boss... I may have messed up."

"What did you do, Ray?"

"Well, I made a post for Elmo saying 'Hi, how's everybody doing?'"

"I mean, that's kind of what we pay you for."

"Yeah, but.... <sigh> it turns out pretty much everyone is hanging on by a thread, badly enough that they needed to tell Elmo."

"Oh."

"God help me, boss, I think Elmo needs to be there for them."

"Get the others."

this is the energy that jim henson would be proud of.

There was a post on here a few days ago that I saw where someone was talking about infantilization issues in movies lately (I see the vision) but in the same breath talked about an adult/older person stimming next to them n who brought a toy with them to the movies and said maybe they could have saved them. (The vision has now faded to the background due to the loudness of Whatever The Fuck That Is)

I've been thinking about it randomly. That sounds miserable.

"pasta only fills you up with empty calories" have you considered that it also fills me with love

love and warmth and happiness and most importantly pasta

pasta rant. pasta fills you with strength and diet culture is based in junk science

I did sports in college and the day before every tournament we'd go to Olive garden and eat as much pasta as possible. carb loading.

and literally every year the freshmen were like "you want us to eat carbs? Bc this was peak diet culture days. And yeah bc carbs make you strong the next day. You can do high intensity anerobic exercise for a long ass time after eating carbs. it was like having pasta superpowers

We'd be bringing sugary drinks to competition to keep up the energy and getting burgers and milkshakes after to recover. And all that was healthy af

You need protein to repair damaged muscles, and fats to break down vitamins and give you energy so anything that tells you any of the macros are bad for you? It's eating disorder shit, macros are literally the 3 nutrients your body needs in large quantities to survive. and sugar? That's the shit you need when you need energy Right Now.

One of the most horrifying conversations that I've ever heard, was when my (then under ten) niece and nephew told my mum that pasta, potatoes and rice were all unhealthy foods and that she shouldn't be making them dinner with them. Because they were Bad For You.

Apparently the school they were in at the time had told them All About The Evils Of Carbs. And how they should be avoiding them all.

Carb loading has it's place definitely (I used to do it a lot pre-days where I knew I was going to be doing it a lot of heavy lifting for work). But honestly so does just eating carbs.

But we really need to get people to stop saying terrifying things like "pasta only fills you up with empty calories"

Because OP is right, it fills you with love and warmth (and most importantly pasta).

But it also fills you with energy. And, if you are still growing, it fuels your growth.

Reading fetish erotica with absolutely pristine and morally upright consent and neat and tidy safer sex practices is like watching a Fast and Furious movie where they stop at every stop sign and signal for every lane change and always obey the speed limit.

freakqueer

from "gender outlaws: the next generation"

image transcript:

Let me break it down this way: some lesbians and gays feel that their issues are more important than transgender issues, because transgender people are freaks. Some transgender people—often, but not only, transsexuals—view transsexual issues as more important than the issues of, say, cross-dressers. Some among the more genderqueer portions of our community look down upon those who opt to live in a more “normatively gendered” space. There are even groups that cross-dressers feel superior to: sissies, drag kings and queens, “little girls,” and so on. Yes, I’m sure that we could follow even each of these groups and find that, eventually, everyone has someone they view as a freak.

This is a human phenomenon, and one which occurs especially, it seems, among marginalized groups. Trekkers versus trekkies versus people in Klingon costumes, or furries versus fursuiters versus, oh, plushies. I’m sure if I looked at model railroaders, I’d probably find that HO gauge fans look down at N scale, or something like that. The taxonomies are endless, often circular, and are usually graded to a fineness that would be invisible to any outsider. We just want to identify the “real” freaks, so we can feel closer to normal. In reality, not a single one of us is so magically normative as to claim the right to separate out the freaks from everyone else. We are all freaks to someone. Maybe even—if we’re honest—to ourselves.

This might suck to hear, but if you’re a people pleaser that is motivated by praise and avoids disagreements, you are easy to manipulate.

When I was in therapy after surviving years of domestic violence, my therapist had to tell me that my personality was primed for abuse and we needed to work on that so I would be better equipped to see the red flags and respond appropriately in the future.

I’m still working on this, and it’s been 8 years. If you tell someone how you want to be treated, what behaviors you don’t tolerate in your life, what you’re looking for in that relationship, and they react negatively, don’t compromise yourself. Just move on.

This one’s for all the praise-kink girlies: differentiate, self-actualize, stay sexy

This resonated with more people than I thought, so here are some phrases to practice when you would normally default to people pleasing:

  • I’m not comfortable with that.
  • I’d rather not, but thank you for the offer!
  • You’re welcome to disagree, but that’s not something I’m okay with.
  • No.
  • It’s personal, and I’d prefer to keep it private.
  • That doesn’t work for me. How about x
  • I respect your opinion, but I’d rather do it my way.
  • That is behavior that I don’t tolerate.
  • To each their own.
  • I’m not looking for feedback right now, but if I’m looking for input later, I’ll let you know.
  • Oh, I’m not sure I agree; I thought x
  • When you did/said x, I wasn’t okay with that.
  • I don’t accept your apology.
  • I can accept your apology once you’ve addressed the problem.
  • Hey, could you help me with x?
  • I need to stop.
  • I need some time to myself.

Just remember, your thoughts, feelings, and opinions are what make you unique, and you can change your mind later, so don’t be afraid to say them out loud. Work through things. Don’t dodge them.
