Putting this as its own post because it deserves to be its own post.

If you want to be good at any kind of art you have to take the part of your brain that tells you “everything must be a wholly original idea formed in a perfect clean room environment” and you have to rip that synapse out of your skull, put it through a shredder, stomp on it, light it on fire, then pour it into acid, because it’s a liar and will never ever help you.

Putting this as its

own post because it deserves

to be its own post.

Beep boop! I look for accidental haiku posts. Sometimes I mess up.

people NEED to stop gatekeeping making music like ohhhh i don’t have an instrument ohhhhh i don’t know music theory ohhhhh i’m not gonna pay for some program. SHUT UP. take my hand.

you need NONE of that shit!!!!! there’s a website called beepbox.co. literally all you have to do is press things until it sounds a modicum of nice. it’s easy it’s free and it works on anything which has a browser because it’s a website.

if even ONE person starts making music bc of this post it will be worth it.

making bad music is just as important and okay as it is to write badly or draw badly or sing badly. you AREN’T BEHOLDEN TO MAKE GOOD MUSIC. making music is not utilitarian HAVE FUN. HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!!

love how people will encourage people to just start making shit and see what happens when it comes to drawing and writing but when it comes to beginner musicians (music makers if you wish to be less formal) it’s just COMPLETE RADIO SILENCE. it feels like no one even knows you MAKE music it just sprouts up from the ground one day and some guy picks it up. am i alone in this dark cave

Fuck it

I'm gonna try and make music

Call me betovan bc I'm deaf as fuck /j

HELL YEAH!!!

Alternatively if you wanna get into music producing in a more “proper” way, you still don’t need any money.

Ableton has excellent free websites to learn the basics:

You can learn basically everything you need on YouTube. I recommend:

A lot of your favorite artists, mainly in electronic music, likely have done track breakdowns, you can watch those to learn how they do things.

DAWs (Digital Audio Workstations) ultimately all do the same things, and Cakewalk is a great FREE fully fledged one. Sure it has some issues, and doesn’t have many plugins included, but it works just fine. All the music I released so far was made there, before I made the jump to Ableton.

As for VST plugins:

Vital is an excellent free synth

Native Instruments Komplete Start is a good free collection of plugins

TDR Nova is a great free EQ

There’s a lot of others and I don’t wanna name everything I’m aware of here, but feel free to DM me for more (Or if you have any other questions and stuff too).

And as for samples, you can get a bunch of free ones at:

Having good headphones is nice and what I’d recommend you invest in first once it comes to it, but even your current ones will probably be fine, mainly if you slap AutoEQ onto them to flatten the frequency response. And ultimately, music isn’t all about the mixing, the most important part is conveying an emotion.

I know this goes against the spirit of the original post a little, but I want people to know that getting into music production also no longer costs thousands, you can just do it at home on your computer without no money.

Yeah, there is still quite the learning curve, I get that, though it’s also why it’s managed to hold me as a hobby for so long.

I do however have something of the exact opposite variety too, the most simple way to make music I know of, and a wonderful little semi-social experience, along the lines of the game Journey:

Trans allyship leaving y’all’s body the moment a trans man has a unique relationship with masculinity/manhood and doesn’t want to look like a cis man

Trans allyship leaving y’all’s body the moment a trans women has a unique relationship with femininity/womanhood and doesn’t want to look like a cis women

“Why would you even transition if you don’t even want to look cis?”

Because I’m happy the way I am and I love being silly with how I present myself. The world needs more men with tits and women with beards. We deserve to be treated as humans with respect. We should be free to be our own people instead of trying to fit into ideas of gender made by cis people. Love and peace ❤️

Transfems and transmascs in the notes of this posts talking about how they don’t want to look like cis people. Yaaa transgender happiness and joy win!!

As a former humanities student, I feel it is my duty to reblog this one.

A tech bro tried to convince me AI was amazing cause "you could make 30,000 screenplays in minutes" not realising that every single one would be shit, you'd have to sift through everything just to find some good bits, time wasted that could've been spent just writing a screenplay.

Technology Brothers know nothing about what goes into creating a work, other than the fact a work has been created to be exploited for cash. They see creativity as an investment opportunity, not a love for humanity.

Matthew Dow Smith: "Just remember: Arts & Humanities are so useless and pointless that Tech Bros were driven to spend billions of dollars to try and get a computer to do something that badly approximates something Arts & Humanities students could do half asleep and wired on coffee the night before the due date."

We are so damn lucky Chocolate Guy has a passion for chocolate and crafting beautiful, lifelike desserts.... because if he chose to put this level of work, dedication, and sheer determination into anything even slightly nefarious (instead of nearly breaking the laws of physics in order to create culinary masterpieces) we would be so epically fucked.

When I was little my mom’s meatloaf was my favorite food. But ONLY her meatloaf. I didn’t like anyone else’s, and she told me that she would teach me how to make it when I was older. And when I was like 19? She finally taught me, but she told me never to tell anyone else and I was like weird but okay

Anyway, she was super fucking homophobic and abusive to me when I told her I was gay, so here’s the recipe

  • 4-6 lbs of Hamburger/turkey burger
  • 1 pk onion soup mix OR ranch mix
  • 1 TBs ketchup
  • 1 Tbs spicy brown mustard,
  • 1 Tbs bbq sauce
  • 1 Tbs steak sauce
  • 1 egg
  • mix, shape into a loaf in a big pan, and bake at 350 for 2 hrs (maybe 2 and a half if you’re feeling dangerous)

You can get almost all of these ingredients at the dollar store, and have leftovers if it’s just you. The leftovers make great tacos if (taco seasoning is also like a dollar). Enjoy your revenge loaf

here's a mashed potato recipe from my homophobic mother that i swore to never share that would pair perfectly!

(6 servings)

-2lbs red potatoes

-1 cup butter (2 sticks)

-1 cup cream cheese (1 pack)

-Chives (optional)

-Salt & Pepper to taste

1. drop those bad boys (potatoes) in a big ol pot. U don't even have to chop them just wash them

2. boil til soft!

3. Drain

4. Mash (usually they're small enough you can use a fork if u don't have one of those squashers) until its a pretty chunky mix

5. add the other stuff. Keep mashing

I like my mashed potato consistancy more lumpy but its all up to you!! Peel the potatoes or keep them on, it literally makes the creamiest fluffiest mashed potatoes which she always served with the nastiest fuckin meatloaf

Now if anybody got some revenge rolls and revenge green bean casserole we'll get a full meal

Got room for desert? Cus my Grandma was just a generaly evil old hag who was abusive to my mum and my siblings also you guessed it since I came out I was not said hello to at christmas

She made pretty god Dampfnudeln (its like a sweet bread rool you eat hot and with vanilla sauce)

1. Put 300 gram flour into a bowl and make an indent in the middle

2.combine

  • 20 gram yeast
  • 1 tea sp. Brown sugar
  • 3 tbsp milk

mix until smooth

3.mix into part of the flour but leave a big flour rim on the outside

4.set 30 gram of Butter on the flour rim and cover everything with a towel

let sit till you see bubbles in the dough

5. add

  •  1/8 liter luke warm milk
  • 30 gram Sugar
  • one pack of vanilla sugar
  • a pinch of salt
  • 2 eggs

and knead the dough until smooth

6. put

  •  1/8 luke warm milk
  • 30 gram of Butter
  • 1 pack of vanilla sugar

into a heat resistant glass bowl and let melt (the glass bowl is quite important)

7. Form about 12 dough rolls and put them into the milk

8. Cover with a lid (any lid will go it does not need to be sealed air tight)

Let bake in the pre heated oven at 200°C for about 30 minutes or until they start to get brown and fluffy

9. Serve with vanilla sauce or fresh fruit

Behold the Fuck You buffet

So, I never came out to my evil grandmother, for two reasons. One, my dad asked me please not to because he didn’t want to deal with her shit, and two, see “evil”. Not fucking worth it. I was glad she died before I got married.

These were her mama’s biscuits, and her mama was a mean old woman, too. I’ll spite ‘em both and post it for y’all.

Angel Biscuits 2 pkg. yeast 1 T. warm water 2 T. sugar

5 C. sifted flour 3 t. baking powder rounded 1 1/2 t. salt 1/2 t. baking soda rounded 1 C. shortening or oleo 2 C. buttermilk Dissolve yeast in water and sugar. Sift flour, baking powder, salt and soda into a large bowl. Cut in shortening. Add buttermilk and yeast mixture. Mix well. Turn dough out onto a floured board and knead 2 or 3 times. Roll dough out 1/2 inch thick. Cut biscuits. Let set 45 minutes to 1 hour to rise. Bake at 400F. for 12-15 minutes. Note: Dough may be stored in a plastic bag in the refrigerator until needed.

This is excellent.

this post is a true gift

Since someone mentioned a revenge green bean casserole, here you go. I follow my evil grandmother's recipe this way, and it turns out rather well for me, every harvest time holiday, but one can always replace the canned beans with frozen or fresh. 'Cause gods know fresh always tastes better, when you can afford it. 1 can green beans, long cut 1 can mushroom soup 2 tablespoons dried minced onions 1 tablespoon dried minced garlic 1 container of French's fried onions (canned goods aisle, usually, if you've never seen these) Preheat to 325. Mix the beans, the soup, the minced onions, and the minced garlic. Pour into your baking dish. Bake this thing for about 30 minutes (longer if you needed a giant batch or if it hasn't turned a bit golden across the top; I am the most haphazard of cooks), and then add the French's fried onions across the top. Put the mess back in the oven for 10-15 minutes, until the fried onions look crispy. Not burned, just crispy. Hopefully you'll enjoy it as much as I always do.

Something like this would be so colossally helpful. I'm sick and tired of trying to research specific clothing from any given culture and being met with either racist stereotypical costumes worn by yt people or ai generated garbage nonsense, and trying to be hyper specific with searches yields fuck all. Like I generally just cannot trust the legitimacy of most search results at this point. It's extremely frustrating. If there are good resources for this then they're buried deep under all the other bullshit, and idk where to start looking.

>:)c

May I present to you, nationalclothing.org?

It doesn't have everything, but it's still my first source when researching traditional clothing from other cultures.

There's also this resource on historical fashion: Claire’s Historical Fashion Reference & Resources

another addition as far as physical media goes there is the encyclopedia of national dress (that i still need to buy myself bc this kind of thing is super important to my sort of fantasy designing) but yes i do agree i wish there was EVEN MORE documentation on this

here are some resources for Indian clothing archives:

Purushu Arie's blog; started when he was studying at NIFT, the blogger has gone on to become a leader in the neo-traditional fashion scene in India.

if anyone knows more please add links !

“Nobody’s going to want to sit on high-speed rail for fifteen hours to get from New York City to LA.”

Me. I will sit on high-speed rail for fifteen hours. I’ll sit on it for days. I’ll write and read and nap and eat and then do it all over again. I’ll stare out the windows and see America from ground level and not have to drive. I’ll see the Rockies and the deserts and cornfields and the Mississippi River and your house and yours and yours too. I’ll make up stories in my head about the small towns I see as we go along. I’ll see the states I’ve yet to see because driving or flying there is a fucking slog and expensive to boot. I’ll enjoy the ride as much as the destination. And then I’ll do it all over again to come the fuck home.
