“Can you sing me a lullaby?”
{❆} ——
Embers popped from the fire as she continued to stoke it, she had assumed the young child had fallen asleep by now. Their parents were gone for the night and she was left in charge of her younger sister, even if this wasn’t her blood family she would do anything to protect them. The recent scare with the young avatar was enough to put everyone on lock down, their parents had left to see what to do about her training. After all what if someone else wanted to kidnap her? Careful planning had to be made to keep her safe and sound, so they left Naga in charge with a few white lotus guards stationed around their home.
The elder sister had a feeling she wouldn’t sleep tonight, she had to make sure nobody was going to touch her sister. She took a seat by the fire and took a deep breath, a sharp ear listened closely as she closed her eyes. She began to focus deeply on all the sounds before she heard tiny footsteps. Frustrated, she cracked one eye open with a sigh before shaking her head, she should have known she wouldn’t go to sleep that easy.
Korra was never that easy.
Ready to scold her she turned to face her, however when the words left the little one’s mouth her expression softened. Even if the child wouldn’t admit it she knew that whole incident had shaken her up a good amount. With a gentle smile she got up and pulled the girl into her arms before walking back to her bedroom, “You know I can’t sing. I sound like a polar bear dog howling at the moon.” She laughed softly before placing the avatar on the furs that covered her bed.
“I can tell you a story instead.”, she curled up on the bed beside her sister and waited for her to come nestle into her before she began telling old tribal stories she had picked up over the years. She continued to tell a few as she rested her head against the younger ones own, she began to grow tried herself after the first two. Through the third one she couldn’t stop yawning and pulled the bender closer to her as she closed her eyes and continued to mumble. Eventually she was passed out clinging to the child, she hadn’t slept well since the incident. Finally it caught up with her, but there was no way her poor sister was getting out of her bear hug until she woke up. So, she could rest easy for at least a few hours before the little bender started to wiggle and want out of her death grip.
