v1.2 Is Here!

Finally!

v1.2 features Independent color customization for:

the site header...

  • background color,
  • link color,
  • link hover color,

the description text color, the site footer...

  • background color,
  • normal text color,
  • link color, and
  • link hover color.

As always, manual updaters get it on GitHub while automatic updates-dependent users wait. :-)

Enjoy!

05.26.13: The MacTrackpadFix will be included in the future as soon as the fix works.

Thanks for the heads up, guys!

Apparently, the trackpad scrolling isn't working with NightGazr. But in order to fix it, I need a little bit of help since I don't have access to a MacBook.

Download the fix attempt (MacTrackpadFix.zip), copy the index.html HTML code on to your tumblelog and tell me if the fix works.

Hello. I find that nightgazr doesn't support trackpad scrolling (mac). Is this my issue or does it not come with that functionality?

Avatar

This issue has been addressed. I’m working on it. :-D

4:33PM: I need help in testing it. Download this fix attempt, open and copy the HTML code on to your Tumblelog HTML editor, save it, and see if the trackpad would work. Come back to me with the results. Thanks.

On v1.2

I'm having a bit of an issue with fully implementing some stuff on the upcoming v1.2.

As I've said, the supposed-to-be v1.2 aims to give users more control over the section colors (header, footer, etc.) of their NightGazr! installation.

The good news is this was really easy to implement on the background colors but I ran in to a dilemma when it came to enabling users to independently manage the foreground (text) colors in those sections.

I found out that I have to add at least 3 more text color options for every section: a normal text color, a link color, and a hover color.

All in all, v1.2 could introduce at least 8 new color options and I'm really thinking if it would be worth the effort or just overwhelm and confuse users.

See, a good amount of thought was put in to cutting-down the hassle of customization while still encouraging design consistency which is why there are only 4 color options. The link color is reused as the site's accent color in many places, the body text color is reused as the menu item hover's background color and the tags' background color, and the section background color is reused as the menu item hover's text color and the tags' text color. The link hover color is the only option that is not reused on other elements.

This kind of consistency might as well disappear if I am to carry on with the changes.

Albeit, I'm coding it, though halfheartedly.

v1.1.6

Very quickly, I killed another bug. The question text was set too big (What could I expect? I placed it inside an <h2> tag).

Manual updaters, get it here.

Hey there man. I love the theme but is there any chance the scrolling will be fixed soon? I'm on a macbook air running chrome and I have to use the scrolling bars to scroll. I can't use the gestures to scroll. Could it be a simple script that is missing perhaps? Thanks!

Avatar

I’m not entirely sure how things work on MacBook Air as I’ve never really had my hands on one before but I’m reading about it now at the Apple website and I have an extremely minute idea on why the scrolling might not be working with the gestures.

In an ASUS notebook that we have here, scrolling around could really be just as easy as pressing the left, right, up and down arrow keys.

There’s a long-standing bug with the parallax effects on tablets not working great on scroll (just downright jittery on Chrome on a Samsung Android tablet and unresponsive for the most part on Safari on iPad). But I don’t think this could be related to the issue.

On a desktop, the mouse wheel (which scrolls websites vertically by default) is set by a script to scroll NightGazr! horizontally. This could be a suspect, but I don’t have a MacBook to test it.

03.23.13: The feeling’s getting stronger on this one. Hang in there.

I might dig in a bit more about trying to make it work with MacBook’s touchpad gestures. The two-finger gesture also scrolls websites vertically on the ASUS notebook that we have here but not horizontally.

Trying to fix it could be pretty much like working with a blindfold but I’ll try to give it a shot.

I’ll keep you posted.

Meanwhile, you could try this related discussion and give the proposed solutions a shot just so we could rule those out.

05.23.13 (4:39PM): I need help in testing it. Download this fix attempt, open and copy the HTML code on to your Tumblelog HTML editor, save it, and see if the trackpad would work. Come back to me with the results. Thanks.

v1.1.5

A minor fix on the opacity settings not applying on the notes/Disqus section boxes that was introduced in v1.1.4.

For manual updates, download it here.

Heads Up!

Updates should've rolled by now for those waiting for the automatic installation.

05.21.13: This is pertaining to v1.1.4.

Disqus And Notes Support On v1.1.4

My version naming really sucks. This might as well be v1.2 but since I've already settled on applying it on another sort of update, I guess I just have to live with calling this release as v1.1.4.

What's new?

  • Notes support.
  • Disqus support.

So, yup, now, you still get to keep your Disqus comments and notes when you switch to NightGazr!.

Download v1.1.4 here to do a manual update.

5.13.13: If you're not seeing these updates roll on your installation yet, you could either do a manual update (which could forfeit future automatic updates) or wait until the mods approve the update and automatically push it to your installations.

More Flexibility On NightGazr! v1.2

From v1.1.4 v1.2 (realized it's a quite significant addition) onwards, you can now independently change the color of the header and the footer right on the customization view.

Of course, that would mean independently customizable header and footer text, link, and link hover colors.

Stay tuned for the beta release as this could take some time to implement decently.

8:55PM: Keep an eye on developments here.

8:58PM: Download the beta here. Of course, betas shall never be rolled out for automatic updating in Theme Garden-installed installations.

9:11PM: Collaborators are very much welcome as I will be very busy within the next weeks. If you're a theme tweaker with a knowledge of the Tumblr Templating System, dive in! Fork the project, make changes on the v1.2 branch, and when you're all set, make a pull request to open it for discussion.

Killing some bugs.

Let's see. Whenyoutypeareallyreallyreallyreallylongwordlikesupercalifragelistiexpialidocioushowdoesnightgazrhandleitasofversiononepointonepointtwo?

How about if I place an image on a text post or embed an image in a caption via HTML, does NightGazr! do anything funny?

10:17PM: Apparently, not anymore. :-D

10:24PM: Get v1.1.3 on GitHub to do a manual update and don't forget that Tumblr themes installed from the Theme Garden will automatically update provided that you did not touch the actual HTML code of the theme. This should fix those overflowing images and wrap those really long words.

Do you love this post? I do.

Featured posts coming soon. :-)

10:30PM: I'm still working on other updates. Aside from the featured posts, I'm planning to release the next versions with more enhancements such as...

  • parallax scrolling on iOS; and
  • making the footer toggle animation work on Opera.

11:15:PM: Download v1.1.2 and update now to get the featured posts on your tumblelog. Simply tag a post with #featured and see the magic happen. And as always with NightGazr! you could change the default "Featured" text to any word that you like right on the customization view.
