I am Stoick the Vast, Chief of the Hairy Hooligans. I am the crusher of mountains, leveler of forests, and tamer seas, and there is nothing that can stop me from protecting my kind. ...Even the scalier of the lot. Now someone tell me where that boy's gone off to before I have send Skullcrusher after him. //This is an indie Stoick rp blog for the HTTYD fandom. Gifs and Icons used here aren't mine. There will be spoilers, so watch out. Skype available on request. Tracking hairyhooliganchief .//

Stoick pored over tide charts by his lonesome, a few candles placed around the papers he'd scattered at the head of the stone fire pit located in the great hall. There had to be some place untouched, some area they hadn't scoured for fish yet. With things as they were, they would barely make it through winter! That was without all the new dragon hatchlings factored in as well, so in truth it was a hopeful prediction at most. Reaching up to his head, he removed his helmet and set it down on the empty space next to his charts and charcoal. In truth, he was hoping for a rousing surplus, only a small matter of pride for him, but with the way dragons were gathering here, it was proving harder and harder to even make due.

With the sound of approaching footsteps, Stoick's eyes drifted upwards some before looking back to his work. "If you're here to present some sort of bad news, I might toss you into the fire."

"It’s not- She didn’t wear it on her- You know that it’s armor, that ya wear a tunic underneath." Stoick sighed, glaring at Gobber somewhat before rubbing at his temple. "Astrid is a good idea, she’d know. Though that might end up being oddly personal. No idea what might come out of that girls mouth as of late. As for Toothless, that’s just… That’s certainly an idea."

"Well my mother didn’t wear one so I just though all woman’s did tha same." He listened to what Stoick had to say about his ideas on who to ask. "Well it’s up to ya Stoick. I would go ta Astrid first. If ya want I could go to Toothless and ask him?" He still thought asking Toothless would be a good idea on what to get Hiccup.

"Let's be fair, Gobber, your mother wasn't the sharpest arrow in the quiver. Fine woman, but just a little strange." Stoick shrugged at the admission, frowning slightly. "Astrid sounds like the better option. But do as ya like, with Toothless. You're certainly better with the dragons than I am, what with the dentistry. I think they trust ya more now because of it. Let me know how asking him goes."

Gobber has died.

"No-…" That old goat had survived losing his arm, losing his leg, getting hit by a Scauldron blast, he’d had his face mashed in by a Gronkle’s tail. He’d fought dragons by Stoick’s side for almost fourty years and he’d never come close to dying. He was incapable of dying, wasn’t he? He was even stronger than Stoick was! It’d been true since childhood. He had to be-… Stoick’s heart wrenched as his body was presented, a few tribesmen already working on a funeral pyre in a spare boat. It was real, it was all real. His feet almost fell out from under him, the strength in his legs almost giving way before Stoick recovered. He had to be strong, for the tribe, even if it was his friend, his brother, god father to Hiccup. Oh gods, how was he supposed to tell Hiccup?? "Get- Get Gothi. Tell her of what’s happened. She’ll do the ceremonies. Than find Hiccup, make sure to bring him here without him seeing Gobber- I’ll tell him." I’ll figure out some way. Life would go on without Gobber, but it would never be the same.

You know what if anything

Hiccup was a cocky little shit at the beginning of the first movie.  He didnt listen.  He thought he could do whatever he wanted and he sort of let the consequences and damage he caused literally roll away.  Only to complain when his dad was like REALLY SON… REALLY.  GO INSIDE.  for some shit other kids would have had their ass beat for.

And after he changed everyones minds at the end of the first movie?  He grew into a person with WAY too much faith in his own ability.  It only added fuel to the fire.

He was WAY too sure of himself.

And he fucked up.

He needed to learn a lesson.

And he did.

And thats ok, people fuck up and they learn.  Thats what a good main character does.

Oh gods, thank you.  It’s like people can’t understand how I can call Hiccup on his shit and still adore him.  It’s really not hard to see why Hiccup wasn’t liked in Berk without twisting it into some unjust angst fest; that doesn’t mean we hate the kid or share the sentiments of pre!Toothless Berk.

It’s also not like Hiccup learned a great lesson and changed himself, or that Berk learned the error of its ways and repented:  it was meeting in the middle.  Well… a little off middle since Hiccup literally changed the crap out of Berk (“for the better” as his daddy says), where Hiccup’s journey was more internal with maturity and application and trust.  Both sides are completely interwoven… it took acknowledgement, encouragement and approval from outside sources for Hiccup to really build up his loyalty and care for Berk after an adolescence of being put down.  Just as Berk had to see Hiccup really apply himself in favorable ways for him to fully earn the “Pride of Berk” position.

Seriously, by the end of HTTYD2 people saw Hiccup approach and were shouting things like “It’s Hiccup!” “He’s here!” “Thank the gods!” which is a complete 180 from the first movie.

Cooking: Between Valka’s terrible cooking and raising Hiccup, Stoick has learned to be an half decent cook. Granted, with the limited menu and seasonings on Berk, the picking’s have been slim, but that hasn’t stopped him too much.

Health: Stoick’s robust, to say the least. His immune system has done him well over the years. It’s been hard on him though, watching Hiccup get sick during his childhood. Stoick’s never dealt with things like the flu or a high fever, he’s never felt the symptoms.

Childhood: Stoick spent most of his childhood either going through his father’s training to become chief and to become a good Viking, or exploring the Island with Gobber. They’ve gone from the lowest sea cave to the highest mountain peak, all by the time they were twenty.
