“Maai Maai, written as 間合, is a complex concept referring to the physical distance or space between an army or combatants, and the exact timing required to make an effective attack. 間 means a “period of time”, “interval” “space”, or “between”, while 合い means “come together”, or “to meet”. Therefore, maai could be explained as be the distance at which your mind must remain alert and focused on determining the exact striking timing and position, the right distance and moment to execute an effective move. Each army or combatant will have differing maai. Some will be faster, allowing for a greater distance, slower brigades or warriors may prefer shorter distances in which to make effective their attack, without allowing the opposition to strike first. The right positioning and distance that can also affect the oppositions’ moves. Basically, you can upset them mentally by distancing yourself, or getting too close. In all, it could be described as the space and time between armies / combatants…that’s my interpretation. The Japanese idiom「敵より遠く自分より近く」(Teki yori touku, jubun yori chikaku) literal translation, “Further than the enemy, closer than yourself” is often used in various martial forms, especially kendo, to explain this situation.”

How to fold your Gi
So here’s how to properly fold your uniform to save space, and how to tie a knot that allows you to carry your Gi over your shoulder.
Pictures pretty much speak for themselves, so I’m not gonna waste your time making you guys read long explanations, but if anyone has any questions, don’t hesitate to let me know.
Also, not my Gi. This one is my niece’s medium weight Gi. The lighter it is, the easier to fold, but it’s the exact same process for a heavyweight.
01. Spread out the Jacket as shown.
02. Fold pants as you would any other, and place with the top of the pants right where the jacket lapels meet.
03. Fold right side on top of pants.
04-05. Fold the sleeve. If the sleeve is shorter, you may not need to fold it twice.
06. Repeat same fold with left side.
07. Fold what remains of the pants, upwards.
08. Fold the top down from where the top of the pants is.
09-10. Fold the bottom part upwards, more or less in half. Now here, especially with a heavyweight Gi, make sure you leave that gap in the center, so that the space allows for the final fold.

For reference on how small the Gi ends up, that tile is 18 x 18 inches, so the Gi ends up being about a 10 x 8, more or less, depending on the Gi size and weight. This saves a lot of space in your bag, especially when traveling, and even more when you have more than one Gi.
Here’s mine (Heavyweight 14oz) folded, compared to my niece’s (7.5)
No more huge bags, just to carry one Gi, and if you, in fact, only carry one Gi (no equipment), you can use the knot below, and you can discard using a bag at all, as you can just throw the Gi over your shoulder.

Important note: If you fold your uniform after class, and don’t plan on washing it as soon as you get home, please don’t forget to spread it out and let it get some air. You don’t want a sweaty Gi to spend too much time folded up like this, trust me, hahaha.

Conor McGregor vs Nate Diaz 1 - UFC 196
It’s finally here. The rematch only the two involved actually wanted to happen.
For the 2nd time this year, UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor (19-3) moves up to 170lbs to face off with top lightweight Nate Diaz (19-10). As you can see above, the first contest ended up with Nate Diaz forcing McGregor to tap.
The two are scheduled to headline UFC 202 this Saturday (August 20).

6 Startling Things About Sex Farms During Slavery That You May Not Know
The fertility of enslaved women was examined by owners to make sure they were able to birth as many children as possible. Secretly, slave owners would impregnate enslaved women and when the child was born and grew to an age where he could work on the fields, they would take the “very same children (of their) own blood and make slaves out of them,” as pointed out in the National Humanities Center Resource Toolbox on Slaveholders’ Sexual Abuse of Slaves.
It was common for the slave to be subordinated sexually to the master–even men with enslaved males. It was part of the enslaved man’s function as an “animated tool,” an instrument of pleasure.
When enslaved males turned 15 years old–and younger in some cases–they had their first inspection. Boys who were under-developed, had their testicles castrated and sent to the market or used on the farm. Each enslaved male was expected to get 12 females pregnant a year. The men were used for breeding for five years. One enslaved man name Burt produced more than 200 offspring, according to the Slave Narratives.
To combat the high rate of death among the enslaved, plantation owners demanded females start having children at 13. By 20, the enslaved women would be expected to have four or five children. As an inducement, plantation owners promised freedom for enslaved female once she bore 15 children, according to Slavery in the United States by John Simkin.
If the enslaved woman was considered “pretty,” she would be bought by plantation owner and given special treatment in the house, but often subjected to horrifying cruelty by the master’s wife, including the beheading of a child because he was the product of a enslaved-master affair.
Often, the plantation owner would entertain his friends by forcing the enslaved Blacks to have orgies–multiple pairings having sex in front of them. And the white men often would participate in the debauchery.
People often forget to examine and discuss the sexual exploitative nature of slavery and how it was “necessary” to ensure the survival of the slave system. It’s sooooo sick! My soul is disturbed. We are a resilient people but damnit if our history isn’t one of terror and unimaginable evil. God bless and comfort my ancestors! Smh. #Hate it!
