we really can’t overstate how damaging it has been to indoctrinate the public with the idea that if they let themselves eat as much as they want, they’ll eat too much. human bodies, when permitted over the long term to eat as much as they want, actually get really, really good at calibrating their hunger and satiety, and will over time eat exactly the right amount for themselves. the common conception of a balanced eater as a minimal or restrained eater is absolutely wrong. balanced eaters eat quite a lot (compared to diet cultural ideas about right intake amounts), and they do so consistently and permanently. healthy, balanced eating isn’t some tightrope walk, it’s a gigantic net of total permission to eat.

I just learned Jansport is making adaptable bags for mobility devices and thought I should share

They even have audio descriptions

[ID: a screenshot of the mobile Jansport website. There is a banner that says 'free standard shipping.' Under the banner is a link that says 'for audio description video click here.' Under the link is an illustration of 4 different types of mobility devices, each with its own adaptable Jansport bag. End ID.]

Jansport is a little pricey but it isn't like the adaptable bags are any more expensive than their other stuff, which is nice to see too!

Oh this is sick

Jansport is pricey because it's the last bag you'll ever have to buy. Seriously, buy two Jansport bags, when one breaks you send it back to Jansport and they fix it and send it back to you. In the meantime you use the second bag.

It’s so weird that we’re rapidly approaching an era of 100-year-old pop culture in a new way. Like if you were a 90s kid there was no such thing as a 100-year-old movie (or at least, not one more complex than “horse runs” or “the arrival of a train).

We have lots of songs that are over a hundred years old, but few recordings of them that are intelligible. The oldest popular genre music goes back to about the 30’s.

Even musicals! Theater is obviously an ancient art but the musicals in the modern sense we imagine them (in which speech and song are combined and both progress the plot) weren’t popularized until relatively recently.

Point is when my mom was growing up she was not exploring media (except for books) that was 100+ years old. When I was growing up at the turn of the century, I wasn’t either. But the crazy thing is that my kids will.

If I were to have a kid in 2023, here are some things that will be 100 before they turn 18 and will likely still be culturally relevant.

  • The Wizard of Oz (film)
  • Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (film)
  • Fantasia
  • Anything Goes (musical)
  • Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (the song and associated character, not the movie)
  • Mickey and Minnie Mouse and many associated characters
  • Superman and Batman (the characters)
  • Bugs Bunny and many associated characters

It’s hard for two horses to be intimate when there’s an erupting volcano nearby. What’s not clicking

So uuuuhhhh…got my daughter a yogurt this morning and learned something new.

Guys I just realized they meant there’s a city in Texas called Ding Dong. I thought the people at GoGurt were really like, “DING DONG! WAKE UP SHEEPLE. BIG GOVERNMENT DOESN’T WANT YOU TO KNOW. TEXAS IS REAL. LOOK IT UP. GET THIS TO THE PEOPLE.” Like some big exec at Yoplait is ready to lose his life over exposing a national secret through the medium of childrens’ yogurt snack tubes.

Every few months I think to myself "what exactly is Wario and waluigi's relationship. They're not brothers so what are they" and I check the wiki and it doesn't say their connection

I hope Nintendo says they're husbands and they don't elaborate

I could look for it but apparently they met in a gay app thing when Wario was looking for a partner for Mario Tennis

I like the idea that they are gay but they're not dating each other. Nintendo should do this if they want to be funny

Here’s the only thing that talks about it

I THOUGHT YOU WERE JOKING

i’ve asked a few people this question but i need it to reach a larger audience. was balloon boy 2009 not as big of a deal as I thought it was? I was in Chipotle with two people and  I tried to bring up balloon boy and they had no idea what i was talking about! it was so crazy!!! I had to read the entire balloon boy wiki article in the middle of a crowded Chipotle. really makes you think………… in order to exit this chipotle, you had to walk through two sets of doors, one after the other, kind of in a ‘tunnel’ set up you know. a hallway. as we were leaving, two different men held open each set of doors. ” A tunnel of politeness!” I said out loud

This is my favourite post ever and I mean it.

When the pandemic started we forced my mom to watch all of LOTR but she kept getting bored and falling asleep so it took 6 nights, and I made powerpoints each day refreshing what she’d seen before
