My name is Nia King and I am a queer mixed-race (Black, Lebanese, and Hungarian) art activist. Since August 2015, Elena Rose and I have been working on Queer & Trans of Artists of Color, Volume 2! In October 2016, it will be a real tangible book that exists in the world. Please help us take it on road!

“The More I Know Men, The More I Love My Dog,” Marsha P. Johnson and friend, New York City, c. 1980s. Photo by Randy Wicker. Marsha P. Johnson and Randy Wicker were not necessarily destined to be close friends. Wicker–a white, cisgender, gay man–famously reacted to the Stonewall riots by declaring, “throwing rocks through windows doesn’t open doors.” And, Johnson–a trans woman of color–famously threw one of the first rocks at Stonewall. Nonetheless, Johnson and Wicker, who, with their distinct styles of controversial activism, both played major parts in building the modern LGBT movement, maintained a fiercely loyal friendship until Ms. Johnson’s death in 1992. #lgbthistory #lgbtherstory #lgbttheirstory #lgbtpride #payitnomind #translivesmatter #remembertheT #gavingrimm #gavingrimmisahero (at New York, New York)

This is a *really good* article that both handles anatomy concerns and presumes zero background makeup knowledge. Well done.
It’s amazing that the cover photo is showing both older women and people of color, something that the media consistently ignores regarding the trans community.
I’ve known Mars since I was 15-We met taking a summer photography class in New York. I was going through a preppy phase, Mars was wearing a lot of scarfs. He said he was from Halifax and I blushed having no idea where that was. For the next 7 years we watched each other grow, retreat, change- but everything I did was always ok with Mars- he’s always supported me even at my worst. When he asked me to take his wedding pictures I said yes immediately - but on the train home I thought about how much we have witnessed each other- I have no other person in my life like him, someone so OK and understanding. Like a shrug of the shoulders and smile “ it’s ok if that doesn’t happen.” Mars is important not only to me, but to everyone in our small community. Meeting Coco for the first time I felt relief- two amazing people. In the past when I’ve witnessed love from the outside it’s been cumbersome- but with them it’s open arms and a hug. I love Mars - Developing the film later I saw his face on the contact sheets was reminded of summer photography class, how awkward and unsure of everything. I’m so happy and proud for you -Mars and Coco
omg Mike I just cried reading this I love you so so much - I’m so glad we’re still friends after all these years
having so many different members of our community come together & help out is honestly what made last weekend so special, I couldn’t have asked for anything more

Friendly reminder to trans girls out there that it’s okay to not shave all the time. Give your face a break every once in a while and you’ll still look beautiful 😊🙌🏻
A beautiful interview with a woman who transitioned in 1976 shows how life for transgender people has changed over the years, although some terrible consequences remain the same.

that last gif breaks my heart haha
“actor”? 🤔
Actor is often used as a gender neutral term but it is always suspicious when I see people use that terminology specifically for trans women
Trans mother and two small children facing homelessness on the street--HELP! [Portland]
Hello, I am a trans woman and mother of two young girls age 2 and 5. I am in the process of separating from my abusive husband and while we are currently crashing with friends, we are not able to stay here for long due to space constraints.
I enjoy cooking, cleaning, reading, and technology. I am personally involved with trans advocacy efforts and am a regular operator with the Trans Lifeline. I have a corporate job interview tomorrow which I am certain will go well, and so I will be able to help with rent, food, and utilities. You will not be asked to watch my children as I have made arrangements for their care while working.
I do not drink or use drugs at all, period; the three of us are also vegetarian. I am 420 friendly and a very proactive person who stays busy during the day-time and we all go to sleep rather early. We have lived in small quarters before and are currently all crashing in a full size bed. I am planning to save up to get my own place within 1-2 months but am open to working something out long term; I am mostly ace and am a very loving and considerate person who avoids conflict, doesn’t judge, and is an understanding listener. My girls are well behaved and enjoy playing with their few toys, coloring, and doing school work. We are a sweet family and are hoping the perfect opportunity comes along; I look forward to hearing from you soon! <3
