Wish on a Star

@hazelswisharchive / hazelswisharchive.tumblr.com

Hazel is a little girl with some very special wishes she has made on shooting stars. Her most special wish is to be loved one day because her mom and dad do not love her and she hopes her wish will one day come true and her mom and dad will love her, or someone will.  Her second special wish she made on a shooting star is to one day have a stuffed animal to cuddle. She believes one day the stars will make her wishes come true! Before her wish comes true Hazel is sad and lonely but finds happiness in her daydreams and school. But once her wish comes true Hazel’s personality shines as a bright, happy, silly and playful little girl. She begins healing with her new family and friends. Hazel decorates her room with stars and is often seen wearing star hair pins or necklaces or outfits with stars, as stars soon become a special reminder to Hazel that her wish has come true!  ~ Writing Hazel on tumblr since 2011. Art by Rinihimme

…. to be loved. ☆彡 💜  Update 2022, Hazel is now a retired muse. I have archived this blog and will create a new blog, where I may write Hazel if I ever have the wish to do so.

Thank you to every single person I’ve ever written with who became a part of Hazel’s wish to be loved. <3

I had so much fun with this little blog that I created back in 2012. I have lots of good memories of Hazel’s wish to be loved coming true with so many different characters. I have so many happy memories of talking to other muns and forming friendships. I have some bad memories too, as ohmygod way back in the early 2010s I wasn’t always the most mature and I behaved embarrassingly in some situations but I feel I’ve grown and matured so much since those days. As I move on to other muses, I take with me the lessons I learned on this blog in both writing and out of character.

Thank you for being part of Hazel’s story! <3

Two Whales Diner

Hazel was looking through her pile of photos she had taken with her instant purple camera her neighbour had given her. Her camera and photos were a secret from her parents – they never would have let her keep them.

She was sitting at the Two Whales Diner, in one of the booths alone. Her money she got from helping her neighbour was another secret she kept from her mom and dad. She was so hungry – her mom and dad had punished her with no dinner last night and they had gotten mad at her for trying to make breakfast this morning so she had decided she would sneak out and come here for her Saturday morning breakfast.

She looked up for a moment, feeling anxious at the idea of being asked what she wanted but also so hungry she hoped she was asked soon. She looked back at her photos. She had lots of night-time photos. Lots of photos of stars.

She looked at one she had taken on the way here, a photo of a wolf stuffed animal in a window of a toy shop, the wolf was all alone and had reminded her of herself and she had wished so badly she could take him home. But she didn’t have enough money for him but she did have enough for food.

She looked at some more of her photos. A picture of a little girl hugging a puppy she had taken on a walk. A shy cat looking at her. A photo of her and her wings… I look like an Angel… Hazel thought.

She still didn’t know why she had woken up with angel wings several months ago. That day her dad had really hurt her, hitting her over and over until she had fallen asleep. And then she had woken up with wings in the morning. Her parents had freaked which had hurt her so much because when she’d woken up with the wings, she’d thought they were a gift to make her parents love her. Her parents made her hide the wings in sweaters, like the purple sweater she was wearing now.

She looked at all her night-time photos again. Stars. Stars and the moon. One shooting star photo, the photo she had taken right at 11:11pm and made her wish to be loved a week ago. She held the photo and stared at it, feeling tears pool in her eyes and slide down her cheeks, wishing the magic inside the shooting star would work soon and make her parents love her.

In the Desert – Nightime

Hazel spotted the car down below, lit up by the moonlight and stars. The lights of the car were off – maybe it’s abandoned and I can sleep in there! Hazel thought hopefully. I’m way too tired to keep flying and it’s so cold out here. She slowly flew down, landing on the sand a small distance away, some of her feathers flying off and onto the sparkling sand. She folded her wings against her back. She got closer and saw someone was in the car. She opened her wings back up ready fly away when she saw it was a boy – not an adult but not a kid.

A teenager? He was asleep in the car and had a bandage covering one of his eyes. It was the sight of the bandage that made Hazel come closer. He was hurt. She was hurt too – all the bruises on her skin bright in the moonlight.

She came slowly closer. He was wearing a hoodie with a wolf on it. Hazel loved wolves. It made her think about how much she missed reading about Stacy and her wolf pack from the book Wild Rescuers. Thinking about the books made her think about home - she missed home, but home wasn’t safe. Her mom and dad didn’t love her. They just hurt her. Her wish couldn’t come true with them so she had left, flown away. She was searching somewhere her wish could come true.

Maybe he was searching for somewhere safe too. Why else would a teenager be out here?

She came right up to the window and gently knocked, shivering. The desert got so cold at night. The feathers on her white wings shone bright under the moon. She had nothing to hide her wings with… and maybe she shouldn’t be here knocking on his car window… but she didn’t just want somewhere to sleep. She didn’t want to be alone anymore. She felt a few tears pool in her eyes and slide down her cheeks. Maybe she wouldn’t have to be alone anymore…

The Junkyard Chloe and Rachel’s Hideout

Hazel watched as some of her white feathers floated on the soft breeze, the afternoon sun shining on them. She had gotten so tired from flying so much she had flown down and landed here in this junkyard. Now she was searching for a place to sleep. She was so tired she could barely keep her eyes open. Her bruises she had on her face and arms stung and ached. She had to find a place to sleep and rest, but it was hard to find anywhere comfortable to sleep.

But as Hazel walked tiredly around trying to find somewhere to sleep, she found the perfect little place near the train tracks.

A little small brick building, it wasn’t even totally built, but there was an opening and Hazel went inside and gasped. It was like she had walked into another world.

There was so much stuff inside, all lit up by the sun that shone through the openings and window. A big carpet with an elephant on it hanging against a wall, posters, drawings and words on the walls, a dart board, a shelf, a table, a chair, a super comfy chair… Hazel made her way over and climbed into the super comfy red chair, snuggling herself and her wings against it.

She felt so safe inside this place. She was safe in here, safe in this little world inside the junkyard. She yawned and shut her eyes. A tiny part of her warned her people spent time here but she was to tired to think about it, no one was here now, she could sleep here, it was safe.

She dreamed happy dreams. Dreams where her wish to be loved had come true and she was loved.

He’s my age! Hazel thought excitedly as she looked down, watching the boy from her tree. She couldn’t believe a kid her age was out here, in the middle of a forest!

But you can’t go down to him. He’ll see your wings. He’ll probably think you’re a freak… Her heart fell.

But then her heart lifted and she gasped. The boy was lifting little rocks into the air. Like magic!

He’s special! Like me! She didn’t need to hide her wings from someone who could lift rocks up like magic.

She stood up on her branch and unfolded her wings. She didn’t want to be alone anymore. She had been alone since she had flown away from home. She wanted to make a friend.

“Hey!” She called down to the boy from her branch. “That’s so cool, how you’re making the rocks float! Can I come down to watch?”

Despite claiming to understand, it was clear that Hazel was hurting.  Cami felt a bolt of guilt run through her and she wished that she had a better balance between her personal life and the professional one she was trying to build.  A patient like Hazel needed to know that everyone in her life was there for her right now, instead of wondering if they were going to leave her high and dry like her parents.
“It’s normal…feeling sad,” she assured her quietly.  “I know it sounds strange to hear someone say so but everyone gets sad every now and then.  Especially when they have been through a lot.”  Her childhood had been nothing like Hazel’s and she was forever grateful for that.  No child should have to go through what Hazel did.  She hoped that she could help her find the right path from here on out.
“The trick is to feel it but not let it take over you.  Does that make sense?” Cami asked.  “Because holding it in will not help but neither will letting it take up all your time.”

Hazel ran her hand over her Purrito Cat Mochi’s soft blanket. It comforted her to hold her little Purrito and it helped to hear it was normal to feel sad like this. She had been through a lot. The trick is to feel it but not let it take over you…

“That does make sense,” Hazel said softly. “But it’s so hard. I can’t stop thinking about how my parents didn’t love me… and how much I wished they did. And I can’t stop feeling sad and worried I might not get adopted and never have any parents. I mean, it’s going to be extra hard with me being a werewolf and all…” She wished she could just make all the thoughts just stop.

“And I feel sad cause I like my foster parents but they’re not going to be my real parents and that just makes me sad. And I miss everyone at the hospital. And I missed you…” Hazel realized she was doing what Cami had said, letting it take up all her time.

“How do I stop feeling sad like this?” She asked. “I wish I could like, just erase my old parents and life from my memory forever. I feel like I could be happy if I could just not think about it anymore. Then I wouldn’t have to worry about it taking over me all the time.” She sighed. “I wish I could even like rewind time and maybe told someone or not have waited so long to run away. So I could have been away from them sooner, safer sooner.”

[ℜ]     If he could bottle up the sheer joy she was emanating in this moment the raven swears he wouldn’t have to work again. But in the same breath, his heart aches with the mere fact that she’s this excited for what should be expected of those asked to take care of her. The simple pleasures children her age or just children in general should have full access to without fear that it would be taken away in a moments notice. Oh my littlest vampire, I’ll make sure you never have to ask for anything ever again. A large hands comes to swipe away the errant tears that have fallen down her face, ones of joy he knows, but pull at his heartstrings none-the-less. “No dream at all, little one,” he coos softly. “This is real life and I promise it will continue to be that way for as long as I’m breathing”
He chuckles softly and takes her outstretched hand in his own, following her to the front door and outside where his car was waiting, the engine still warm even so. “Patience little one, patience,” he chides softly, though there’s no real ire in his tone. “The night is young and we have plenty of time to hit all the stores you could even imagine until your eyes fall dreary and sleep whisks you away.” He opens the rear door for her and buckles her in tightly once she’s safely inside. “Though we’re called creatures of the night, we aren’t really so. Some, like me, work in the day and then come home at night or go out with friends and family. Others chose to live the stereotypical lifestyle and only come on at night. What matters now, is getting my little one’s dream room in order hm?”

“Since I’m a vampire… that means forever right?” Hazel asked him after he wiped away the last of her tears, joy radiating in her voice. This wasn’t a dream… and if she was a vampire and so was he… that meant this could be forever. She would never have to be scared again, she would never have to be sad again… she would never be unloved again… This was her forever now and it was the best forever in the world.

“It’s hard to be patient when I’m so happy,” she told him. “But I’ll do my best to be Hufflepuff patient!” She giggles as she walks with him, her hand in his.

She’s amazed at how he always takes care of her, opening the car door for her, buckling her in. She’s still not used to being treated like this all the time, so different, so new, from how her mom and dad treated her. She feels like a Princess with Ryan. And completely safe.

“But we can stay up all night if we want though right?” She asked mischievously. “I mean since we’re still vampires!”

*

They had made it to the mall! She was so excited to explore with Ryan and find all the things for her dream room. “I want to find all the star things and all the cute things!” She told him.

She was so excited she didn’t notice at first all the sounds – which sounded extra loud very suddenly. She squeezed Ryan’s hand tight and moved so she was leaning into him, trying to just focus on him.

“There’s so many people,” she said anxiously. “And they’re louder, I mean louder than normal.” Is that a vampire thing? She reminded herself she was safe. “Where’s the best place I can find cute star things do you think?” She asked him, there were so many stores she had no idea where they should go first!

Hazel’s daemon thoughts Golden Snub Nose Monkey I’ve always loved these monkeys (I became obsessed after the Seven Worlds One Planet episode on them) . I know in the show the golden monkey isn’t the nicest but it’s clear he is lonely and hurting from the way he is treated. So I love the picture of a cute golden snub nose monkey daemon being loved with a very silly personality.

I picture Hazel’s daemon preferring a monkey form.

Hazel, abused by her mom and dad, is always very lonely. So, to help her feel less lonely, her daemon decided to take a monkey form because there’s so much more a monkey can do, because they have hands. Her monkey daemon can draw pictures with her. Play board games with her. Play any kind of game just as if he was a human! As a monkey he can even hold her hand when she’s scared or upset.

They love picking flowers together. They can read together, with her daemon even flipping pages. Her daemon and her will explore libraries and her daemon will pull out a book with his hands and give it to her. Her daemon is curious just like her, so he’ll always be exploring things too, bringing anything he finds to her. Her daemon is silly and playful and mischievous and helps cheer Hazel up.

They also taught each other sign. Her mom and dad get mad at them sometimes for talking to loud, so when her parents are extra mean, she and her daemon communicate through sign. They learnt it at a book at the library, they also made up some of their own special signs. Hazel, often anxious around strangers she doesn’t know and especially men finds it comforting to sign with her daemon. They can talk to each other like this at school or anywhere in public and feel safe.

Her daemon loves the brightly coloured fur of the golden snub nosed monkey

Meredith waited patiently until a little black kitten came bounding around the corner, clearly headed towards his favorite person.  She grinned as Hazel picked him up.  “He is absolutely adorable, Hazel.”  She couldn’t help but reaching out to stroke the soft fur on his head.  She loved the sound of a cat purring.  She had thought a few times about getting a cat so her apartment wouldn’t be lonely but in the end, she recognized that her work schedule was far too erratic for it to be fair to a cat.  They might be independent but they still craved some contact.
“It sounds like you did everything right.  I am glad that there was an easy way to learn just what to do for him.”  She had vaguely heard of Kitten Lady before from one of the nurse’s in the ED.  They used her instagram page, with all the cute kittens, as balm after a bad ay.
“And they are right.  You are definitely his adopted mom.  He’s lucky to have you,” Meredith told her with a smile.  On the subject of bringing Lucky to the hospital, she didn’t quite have an immediate answer.  “I will look into having Lucky for a visit. I know some children that would love to meet him too.  But in the meantime, you are welcome to come volunteer anytime.”

“He’s the cutest!” She agreed, he was purring happily as she held him and Meredith pet him. “He likes you too,” she said happily. “I’m so happy I found him and saved him. I took care of him just like you did me.”

I can’t believe how long ago that was. I always think that but I just can’t believe how long ago it seems. Her world had been so different. She’d been so scared being brought into that hospital after they had hurt her. How Meredith had cared for her and made her feel loved. Learned about her being a werewolf and still taken care of her and helped find the perfect parents for her. To Hazel, the start of her new life had started at the hospital with Meredith. She felt so proud she’d been able to take care of Lucky, help him grow up loved since she’d found him all alone.

“Let me know if I can ever bring Lucky along. I’ll talk to my mom and dad and see if I can come visit the hospital soon!” She put Lucky down and he just rubbed against her, meowing for more pets so she gave him a few more pets. Lucky always wanted attention from her.

“So what are we going to do today?” She asked. She’d heard Meredith had something planned to do today, though she didn’t know what. “Oh and I almost forgot! Look on the table, I’m almost done it, I’ll bring it when I come volunteer at the hospital.”

On the table was a painting she’d been working on to bring for the hospital kids playroom. It was a painting full of wish jars full of colourful sparkling stars floating in a star filled galaxy. She’d used lots of glitter so the picture sparkled. She’d even mixed in colourful cupcakes throughout the galaxy. Stars so often featured in her art, because of their symbol to her, how wishes really did come true.

Flying was amazing. Flying at night was even more amazing. She was flying among the stars – that’s what it felt like to Hazel.

But it was lonely. So lonely it hurt. It felt like it hurt even more than her bruises.

She had flown away from home - decided she would never look back. Her wish to be loved wasn’t coming true with them. There was no way it ever could.

So Hazel had flown away, in search of where her wish to be loved could come true.

But where am I flying?

She kept flying until she was too tired to fly. She flew down and down and landed in a tree.  She folded her wings against her back, leaned against the tree trunk.

Stars please. When I wake up… please help me find what I’m looking for.

Her dreams were full of happy things... she was flying in a galaxy full of stars and shooting stars and wish jars full of sparkling colourful stars. She was following the brightest star because the brightest star was the one that had her wish and if she could just catch it, her wish to be loved would come true.

It was easy for Natalie to sense and feel how anxious Hazel was. Was it because she mentioned her mom? Though she didn’t want to think it was, putting two and two together, Natalie didn’t think there could’ve been any other reason for it.” Mhm!  I promise she’s really nice. Sometimes, she takes me to get ice cream after school and we go to the park.  She’s not from here though so she talks differently then you. Kinda like me but not so much.” She meant her mother spoke with an accent. She was Sicilian therefore spoke with a Sicilian accent. Natalie did as well but it wasn’t as thick as her mothers.
Natalie always considered herself lucky to have the mother she did. It was her mother who loved her most when no one else loved her at all. She protected her, she cared for her. Her mother was one of her best friends. It was why it was so easy for Natalie to talk about her the way and as much as she did. If no one stopped her, she could’ve gone on and on all day. Her mom was the best and sometimes, she just needed others to know that.
“Thanks, it took me soo long to draw. I couldn’t get the wings right, kept messing up but I got it eventually!” Natalie smiled brightly at the compliment. “ I like them too, I wanna see a rainbow butterfly one day.  My Zia Lofn said there’s a place where billions and billions of butterflys live and she’s gonna take me there.” As Hazel reached into her backpack, Natalie slowed down just a bit and waited for her friend to show  her own drawing. When she did, the little wolfs eyes lit up.
” He’s so cute!” She exclaimed.” Purrito, purrito, where is your burrito?”  She sang, a giggle following. “ I just got some new markers and pencils that make your pictures glow in the dark, we have to try them!” She took Hazels hand and sung it as they walked.” I’m happy you’re coming over too.” She looked at her friend and gave a smile before looking ahead, a gasp leaving her.” Look Hazel, that’s her! Come on!” Up ahead was a petite silver haired woman. She smiled warmly and waved at the girls as they headed her way.” Come on Hazel!” Natalie called again.

“If you say she’s really nice I know she must be the nicest mom in the world!” Hazel said, letting her anxiety fade away. Nice was not a word she’d ever use to describe her mom but if Natalie used the word nice for her mom, she believed her. She didn’t need to be nervous – most kids didn’t have moms like hers.

I wish I could call my mom nice… I wish… Just thinking the word wish made her sad, because her wish still hadn’t come true. But I have a best friend - even if I don’t have parents who love me. One day… my wish will come true with my parents… She let the sadness vanish as quickly as it had come. She couldn’t be sad when she was with her best friend.

“You did, your butterfly was the most amazing pretty butterfly anyone has ever drawn before!” She told Natalie confidently. “I’d love to see a rainbow butterfly! If she takes you there, I want to come so we can see the billions and billions of butterflies together!” Hazel told Natalie excitedly.

Hazel giggled at Natalie’s reaction to her picture. “Purrito, Purrito, the blanket makes the kitten go from a Burrito to a Purrito!” She sang happily.

“You have glow in the dark markers and pencils?” She gasped. “That’s the coolest! We totally have to use them! I’d love to use them to draw something star themed. Like I bet it would look so cool to use them to draw a wish jar and draw colourful glow in the dark stars inside! And maybe the Wish Jar is floating in a star filled galaxy with shooting stars!” Maybe she’d draw that and hang the picture over her bed, for good luck for her wish.

She giggled happily as Natalie took her hand and began swinging it happily. Having a best friend was the most amazing thing in the world. She was so excited to go over to Natalie’s.

Hazel felt her heart jolt when Natalie suddenly pointed out her mom. She had to remind herself of what she’d just been thinking, that Natalie’s mom was nice. It was just hard to turn off her fear around adults. Shaking away her brief panic, she smiled at Natalie’s mom when they reached her.

“Hello,” she said shyly.

Quirk Information

Hazel’s quirk (which she calls Cat Wish) gives her cat ears and a cat tail. She can also turn her hands into paws.

The most special part of Hazel’s quirk is her Nine Lives and Cat Dream Walking

Hazel’s Nine Lives was discovered tragically when the abuse from her parents took her life one night. When Hazel loses a life it takes her several hours to reawaken. A mysterious part of Nine Lives is once Hazel loses a life, she is frozen at the age she lost her first life. She has stayed nine years old since losing her first life two years ago. Hazel’s parents - fearful Hazel’s frozen age would draw attention and lead to the discovery of her nine lives and how she had lost her first and get them into trouble - took her out of school.

Hazel’s Cat Dream Walking allows her to visit people’s dreams as a cat. She can only be in cat form in these dreams but she can still speak. Hazel has tried to reach out in people’s dreams for help but for some reason the people she has tried have not been able to hear her. She believes maybe only the hero meant to save her will hear her, so she keeps searching in her dreams for them.

Hazel’s Cat Form is a White Cat with purple stars on her fur. The stars represent Hazel’s wishes. Her wish to be loved which she believes can come true if her wish to be saved by a Hero comes true.

Possibilities:

Hazel’s Nine Lives quirk could make her a target for All For One’s plans, given having the ability to survive death nine times would be desirable for a Villain. Hazel’s parents, who have connections with Villains may lead to her Nine Lives being discovered and putting her at risk.

For a Charles Xavier

Hazel was sitting up in her hospital bed. Her bruises hurt and stung but her heart hurt even more. She might be away from her mom and dad and in a hospital but she didn’t feel any less unsafe.

The nurses had taken care of her but they wouldn’t speak to her. They didn’t comfort her. She felt so alone. She missed her mom and dad and she didn’t know why, since they were why she was here.

Hazel slowly unfolded and stretched out her wings to look at them, letting out a whimper as her right wing her dad had tugged throbbed in pain. A few feathers fell away. Her pretty white wings she normally took pride in had bald patches in some places. Her feathers had started falling out in places since her mom and dad had begun hitting her more and more often.

Are my wings really why my mom and dad don’t love me? Hazel wondered. Are my wings stopping my wish from coming true? She loved her wings. She had always loved her wings, thinking her wings made her look like a little angel. But if she didn’t have her wings, would she be loved? Or if she hadn’t stopped growing up, would her mom and dad love her?

She thought of how she’d heard the doctor say how her birth date meant she was twelve but she was still nine. She’d been so confused hearing that. She was supposed to be twelve? She wasn’t allowed to go to school and never had her birthday celebrated so Hazel hadn’t even really known how old she was supposed to be. She didn’t even know what day her birthday was - her mom and dad got angry if she tried to ask. She’d tried to ask the doctor, but he’d ignored her.

Did her mom and dad really not love her because of her wings and how she’d stopped growing up? Or am I just unlovable? Tears started to fall down her cheeks. She raised her hand and first moved some of her long messy tangled hair out of her face and then rubbed at her eyes and whimpered as the rubbing hurt her eye bruise.

A nurse suddenly came in and hope flared for a moment. Maybe she’s come to comfort me, to hug me… But the nurse would not look at her. “A man has come to see you,” she said coldy. A man? Hazel felt confused. Her dad? Fear and hope filled her because she missed him but feared him. She just didn’t want to be hurt anymore. She grabbed the pillow and clutched it to her chest, leaving her wings open because they hurt too much to fold. As she waited for the man to come, she held it even tighter and a few more feathers fell away…
