OK, so apparently my poor neglected tumblr is five today... so I thought I’d make another attempt at coming back *sneaks nonchalantly into corner of room and helps self to cake* I brought a big handsome fella with me from my garden, hope nobody here is squeamish about beetles. Umm... yes I’m fine... no I still haven’t written anything since forever... hope you’re all good, now tell me what I’ve missed and bear with me while I catch up!

i love this so much i dont know where to start - the comedy itself - the commentary on ‘what is art’ - further on what is art: the viewers are interpreting this as art, but the intention of the “artist” was not actually art, so is it art or not? who gets to decide, the viewers or the creator? - the act of placing the glasses and watching the response (and the response itself being that the viewers treated the glasses as art) as performance art like is this a critique of postmodernism? does the critique betray itself since (one could argue) the viewers interpreting the glasses as art makes them art? or is that so ridiculous that it doesn’t matter? i could go on

The intention of the “artist” was not actually art, but… their intention was to create a specific image for public display in order to evoke a reaction from an audience, and then to create an image of that in order to evoke a different reaction from a second audience.

I think they accidentally arted.  Twice.

And talking of Etsy... I have a sale on ATM, all these pretties are in the Clearance section and reduced AND you can use coupon code TUMBLRLOVE at checkout to get 20% off anything over £5 (excluding shipping) AND I do combined shipping so you pay only one shipping charge per order even if you buy multiple pretties :)

Awww. One of the nicest Etsy reviews I've yet received - reminds me why I do what I do. Because there are lovely people out there who totally get it. This was a really fun commission that wound up being more of a long distance collaboration and which grew and evolved as we went along, turning a bunch of old battered vintage cutlery into a fun 'kitchen garden' chime with words supplied by the customer. I knew it was going to be OK when she picked the old battered spoons rather than the matching set of clean shiny ones :)

Is it a bird or is it a flying baby octopus? Today Department of Awesome Natural Wonders is marveling at a hummingbird that appears to be part cephalopod. This tiny wonder is the Costa’s hummingbird (Calypte costae), native to the American Southwest and the Baja Peninsula. When it’s time for the male of this shiny species to pitch some woo at a female, they flare their violet facial feathers and dance about in mid-air in an elaborate courtship display. Their purple facial feathers suddenly look like an array of tiny tentacles.

“Spring is the time to nest for the Costa’s hummingbirds, before the desert gets too hot. Both males and females are looking for a partner, but it’s up to him to impress her. Though his back shimmers with green, it’s not until we get her point of view that we see his true splendor. He flexes the iridescent feathers of his mantle until they become a glowing mask of violet.”

Watch this clip from the upcoming PBS Speical ’Super Hummingbirds’ to watch the male Costa’s hummingbird showing off his finest moves:

Titles are hard.

After the events of The Chokes, Vince tries to sort out his relationship with Howard. He just needs to do that before a demon destroys the world.

Posted under my main account because I got a little confidence (sort of).

This is why I haven't been around much :( I am mostly in my shed whacking metal things with a big hammer or talking to like minded friends and trying to find a way forward. Bear with me, I will be back with pretty things and smut as soon as life stops feeling like an unreal nightmare...

Death´s-head hawkmoth (Acherontia)

The name Death’s-head Hawkmoth refers to any one of the three moth species of the genus Acherontia (Acherontia atropos, Acherontia styx and Acherontia lachesis). The former species is found primarily in Europe, the latter two are Asian; most uses of the common name refer to the European species. These moths are easily distinguishable by the vaguely human skull-shaped pattern of markings on the thorax. All three species are fairly similar in size, coloration, and life cycle. All three species have the ability to emit a loud squeak if irritated. The sound is produced by expelling air from the pharynx, often accompanied by flashing of the brightly colored abdomen in a further attempt to deter predators. All three species are commonly observed raiding beehives of different species of honey bee for honey; A. atropos only attacks colonies of the well-known Western honey bee, Apis mellifera. They can move about in hives without being disturbed because they mimic the scent of the bees.
