For those of you familiar with the story of Baby H, here is a petition to get her home.

For those unfamiliar, Baby H was seized June 14th from her loving Indigenous family by social workers after the hospital reported her mother for failing to take care of her when she was medicated 90 minutes after a c section.

The baby has since been bounced through at least 5 foster homes, some non-Indigenous. Social workers are not communicating properly with the family, and even refused to continue meetings when the family attempted to record them for their protection. Some of the justifications for this action include outright lies (ie the claim that the parents are homeless. they actually have a 2 bedroom apartment.) Source

Social workers and the Canadian government have been doing this since confederation. They will take any possible excuse to remove Indigenous children from their families and communities. This is one of many ways they continue to attack our cultures and people. Just look at the foster care statistics in Canada:

“In Canada, 52.2% of children in foster care are Indigenous, but account for only 7.7% of the child population according to Census 2016. This means 14,970 out of 28,665 foster children in private homes under the age of 15 are Indigenous.

Results from the 2011 National Household Survey also show that 38% of Indigenous children in Canada live in poverty, compared to 7% for non-Indigenous children.” X

“The numbers are staggering. Indigenous — First Nation, Inuit and Métis — children under 14 make up 52.2 per cent of all children in foster care. There are 4,300 First Nation children under the age of four in foster care across the country. In Manitoba, there are 10,000 children in care.” X

“In 2011, there were 392,100 Aboriginal children aged 14 and under in Canada, representing 28% of the total Aboriginal population. By comparison, non-Aboriginal children in the same age group represented 17% of the total non-Aboriginal population.

In 2011, there were more than 14,000 Aboriginal children aged 14 and under in foster care. Aboriginal children accounted for 7% of all children in Canada but for almost one-half (48%) of all foster children.” X
