It's #WorldEncephalitisDay and yet 8 out of 10 people do not know what encephalitis is.... do you? thndr.me/6XJC4u http://thndr.me/6XJC4u

This is what #Encephalitis looks like. “She looks fine” I am helping raise awareness because sometimes Encephalitis looks fine, but Encephalitis can be deadly and it leaves patients with many different outcomes. It took an MRI, EEG, CT scan and lumber puncture to get to the cause of Amalia’s “flu like” symptoms. We are forever grateful to Evelina children’s hospital for believing us that our daughter was seriously ill when others didn’t and for ultimately saving Amalia’s life. And now we are so grateful for the existence of the encephalitis society who provide us with information and a fantastic support network, without them living with the after effects of encephalitis would be a very lonely place. Just like with metal health issues because She looks fine you can't see her learning, understanding, communication disabilities aswell as Amalias inability to speak along with many other struggles due to her brain injury! Unfortunately due to unawareness & ignorance people stare and judge because of the way she acts even though she "looks fine"! Even our local hospitals ignorance and lack of support through our journey fails to acknowledge the damage encelpahlitis did to Amalias brain and along with a panel have today diagnosed Amalia with autism, which we do not agree with! Encephalitis leads to many traits associated with autism but ultimate they are different! #WED #worldencephalitisday #encephalitissociety #evelinachildrenshospital #aquiredbraininjury #supportevelina (at Dartford)
