“ I would have thought that you, out of anyone, would have time to visit those who aren’t as elusive as I am.’’

Since Death wasn’t one to stay in place more than a day or two, it was hard to get a grip on him. Not that he couldn’t stay in the same place, but sometimes work called him elsewhere. The god of Death sure had a busy schedule and he definitely could use some rest, but even if he was given the opportunity, he wouldn’t know what to do with himself. He’d always known only to work, after all. He was an old soul despite his youthful appearance, but little to no friends to spend time with would he be on vacation.

’‘Shouldn’t you start time back?’’ Azrael didn’t really know of the dangers that meant stopping time for extended periods, but he could guess that it wasn’t too good.

’'I could probably ask Lucifer to allow me a break. As one of his horseman, he’d probably allow me to find someone to replace me… but I’d have to pick among the humans and those who see me are usually those who are about to die. I have yet to meet a single one with abilities greater than the mass that would deserve my title, if only for a week.’’ And would they work with the respect he had for life too? Taking lives and souls wasn’t just a question of reaping. Azrael always made sure to send away in peace those who deserved it, so they wouldn’t be stuck in limbo, ending up demons or ghosts.

       “I had the time.. Yes..                  But I lacked the motivation.”

  He was not ashamed of what could pretty much be called laziness. A majority of other Deities were often too touchy feely for his liking anyways. If he had a heart, he’d have suffered from numerous heart attacks from all the times Mother Nature hugged him

     “Indeed.. I should resume time soon..                  The balance will be disrupted otherwise..”

  A sullen sigh, and around the two, the humans proceeded with their lives as if nothing at all had happened. They had no idea they’d been standing frozen for several minutes, they just went about their way without a care, with little attention given to their surroundings

                  “Let us relocate to a place that is less noisy.”

  Light blue eyes turned upward, gazing at the top of one of the taller buildings in the area. A slight bend of his knees was made before he lept into the air, effortlessly gaining height, and soon landing on the roof of the building with soft thumps as his feet met with the concrete   He liked it up here.. He could still gaze at the humans while avoiding being too close to them, having to listen to their noise, to their strife, to their joy. He didn’t care for those things

                    “I will assist you in your search..                               I’m sure one will turn up eventually.”

At first, he didn’t know how to react. Did he know him? Know that male? But then the time froze around them and he let a heartfelt grin twist his lips upward. The Father of Time himself. It had assuredly been a long time. So long that even Azrael had come to forget his figure, but not his presence. Maybe that’s why he wasn’t all that uncomfortable when he first saw him. Usually, when someone called out to him, he was always surprised. Like that time a human who had less than a week flirted him, much to everyone around him dismay, who thought the man had gone  crazy. Or when he met one of the cursed ravens of Loki, the god of Asgard. 

“ A long time you say? Aren’t you being light with words? I had the time to forget your face and I am not one who usually forget easily. And I’ve been as I can, as per usual. Silent, solitary and overworked.’’ Because Death could rarely catch a breath or go on vacation. All things needed Death and while he was not the supreme Shinigami, he was one of the messengers and his job was full time. 

There’s at least one thing that could comfort both souls, that which neither of them would make a move to touch the other. Death, out of fear to take what can’t possibly be taken from the other and Time, likely out of emotions. Not that Azrael knew about his old friend’s issues.

     “You could use some rest..” 

   Father knew the words he was speaking. Just as much as he knew that keeping time frozen for extended periods of time was dangerous. It affected all the Gods that worked on Earth. People could not die if time was in a stand still, so those like Death were temporarily out of work    But in this moment, that was Father’s exact intention. It’d been millennia since he’d been reunited with the other beings that kept watch over the Earth, all of them maintaining balance in their own right    But overworked..? Father hardly knew what that was like.. The Life of the Lord of time was dull, uneventful. Anything born upon the Earth was immediately under his rule, and he had not even to lift a finger, so he was going to take advantage of this moment   The gentlest of chuckles danced upon the Lord’s lips at the other’s words, and he closed the distance between them [ Granted he made absolutely sure not to touch anything or anyone in his path there ] Until he was just a few feet from Death

                           “I can truthfully say the same..           I don’t really remember the faces of any of my old friends..               I’ve not seen any of them in years.”
