(Parts one and two)

She returned to London with a new computer, her firewalls in place and the business card in her pocket; the computer she had been using was nearly outdated, and she had removed all trackers and identifying markers from her new computer carefully before she began to set up her system, making sure to enter the code in a different order than before. Her old computer was completely wiped and sold for a decent amount of money.

"How was Paris, love?" Her mum asked when Rose dropped by the for a visit. "You’ve been working too hard lately; you needed a break."

Rose smiled and kissed her forehead. “Amazing. Keisha is doing well; she says hi, by the way.” She dug in her bag and pulled out a silk scarf. “Got this for you. Figured you’d need a little bit of color to go with that hospital dress.”

Jackie shook her head but smiled. “No sense of fashion here. Thanks, love. I might use it as a head scarf or something.”

Rose helped her mother secure it. “It really brings out the color of your eyes. Maybe you’ll attract some single, rich doctor and fall into a whirlwind romance,” she winked.

"Oh, don’t get my hopes up," Jackie laughed. "And the doctor should be for you, Rose. I don’t like the thought of you living alone; you deserve someone who cherishes you."

Rose squeezed her hand. “I’m fine, mum. The job is paying the bills, and that’s all I care about. Besides, you’ll be home in a month; it isn’t that long a time to live alone.”

"I know, but you’re my daughter. You deserve to be happy." Jackie shifted in the bed. "I hope you brought movies or something. I’ve seen so many re-runs I’m dying for something new."

"Audrey Hepburn ok?"

Jackie snatched the dvd. “Don’t ask twice.”

Rose stayed and watched two movies with her mum before a nurse arrived and told her that visiting hours were over. After a long goodbye Rose left, only to run into the doctor on her way out.

"Miss Tyler, there you are," he said. "Mind if we talk a bit?"

Thought nervous, Rose nodded and he motioned for her to join him in a small waiting room. “Your mother’s tests came back, and I’m afraid the medication isn’t helping. It’s holding the sickness at bay, but unless we try something new she’s not going to get any better.”

"Can’t you double the amount or something?" Rose asked, worried.

"I’m afraid not. There’s a doctor in Scotland that specializes in your mother’s disease, but I’m afraid he charges a bit more than we do." He paused. "The alternative is to use an experimental drug, but the costs will be about the same."

Rose realized she was shaking, but she forced a smile. “Thank you. I’ll… I’ll think about it tonight and call you in the morning.” The doctor gave her a sympathetic smile and told her that he was available after nine; as soon as he left, Rose pulled out the business card and stared at the number.

"Doctor?" she asked as soon as the call connected. "It’s the Bad Wolf. I’m taking you up on the deal, but only on one condition."
