wait its that bad in india????

as of 22nd April 2021 we have about 16.3M new cases and a death toll of 187K . Only about 1.4% of the population has been fully vaccinated yet.

on top of that, we've been facing a major shortage in oxygen supply (to the point where the govt has decided to airlift oxygen from other nations), a shortage in hospital beds and services. The numbers keep rising and with the spread of the new strain, the scenario has transformed into something deadlier than ever.

our infrastructures are falling apart and we need all the help possible at this very moment so the nation can be atleast saved when there's still a chance. I've already lost two of my friends, a teacher and family to the second wave and I can only imagine how much worse it can get. so i would like to take this opportunity to link in some donation posts below–

Getting the word out at this time of crisis matters.

Please reblog and help

it makes me uncomfortable how frequently attempts to raise awareness about adhd and autism in girls emphasize these kids as quiet, well-behaved, and not noticeably different from their peers. neurodiverse girls who successfully mask and suffer invisibly deserve empathy, of course, but so do the girls who grow up labeled aggressive, inappropriate, or “weird.” a lot of nd girls have meltdowns and social difficulties which are labeled as anger issues and behavioral problems. nd girls are often perceived as “bad kids,” especially if factors like poverty or race are already priming both adults and their peers to see them that way. i don’t think it’s honest or socially responsible to present silently blending in as the only or even primary way developmental differences manifest in girls.

Hi guys my mom is in really bad shape right now and got diagnosed with a rare condition called Bartter syndrome and I need help paying for her medical supplies, and also to help her travel to a specialist. We live in a pretty small area where there’s no good doctors so we would need money to travel and take all of her medical supplies with. I only work part-time so there’s no way I can help her out when I only work 12 hours a week. Her condition keeps on getting worse and unfortunately there’s not any cure or medication that can help. The money would help pay for medical supplies, bills, and travel expenses. Insurance doesn’t pay for any of her medical stuff that she needs so it’s very expensive. We are trying to get her a at home treatment plan but it’s $300 a week and she is on disability. She’s had 2 heart attacks because of this severe condition. Please help if you can.

I also have a PayPal account paypal.me/xlenaw

I made a GoFundMe to help her if you could please donate or share I would appreciate it ❤️

The Grammys really said to artists of color you can write the most beautiful albums in existence but there’s always gonna be some mediocre white boy who will release a terrible, trashy song objectifying women who will get the nomination instead of you

Y’all need to leave Justin Bieber alone, for real.

The fact that me saying “a mediocre white boy releasing a trashy misogynistic song” made you think of him YET you’re defending him is the funniest thing that happened to me all day

“dont worry about vosotros” is the “mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell” of spanish class

my spanish teacher in high school was from cuba and he told us to ignore vosotros because nobody uses it and i said “but they still use it in spain, right?” to which he replied “okay, nobody that matters”

this tweet is such a perfect encapsulation of what the brain trust on twitter considers activism at this point, i swear to god

  1. she was a child
  2. she was a child trapped in a legendarily abusive studio contract where she was being pumped full of drugs and sexually abused by producers
  3. what is the point? “think about this the next time you watch the wizard of oz”? and do what? this tweet is so pointless
  4. not for nothing but she was also a lifelong advocate of the civil rights movement and held a whole press conference to denounce white supremacist terrorism after the 16th street baptist church bombing
  5. there are politicians who did blackface in office right now
  6. judy garland has been dead for 50 slutty, slutty years

If you want to use this information to actually learn about minstrelsy I would recommend the chapter “Past Imperfect: Performance, Power, and Politics on the Minstrel Stage” from Digging the Africanist Presence in American Performance: Dance and Other Contexts by Brenda Dixon Gottschild. Gottschild covers the Africanist dance influence in minstrelsy, the re-appropriation of and resistance in minstrelsy by Black performers, the legacy of minstrelsy, and much more.

In a similar vein I would also recommend the Marlon Riggs documentaries Ethnic Notions, which covers anti-Black stereotypes in popular culture from the antebellum period through the Civil Rights movement, and Color Adjustment, which covers the representation of African Americans on television from its advent through the 1990s.

You’re not going to raise your consciousness by watching The Wizard of Oz and feeling bad that Judy Garland did blackface (in not just Everybody Sing, but also Babes in Arms and Babes on Broadway, for the record) because she was a minor under the thumb of her abusive stage mother and legally obligated to perform in these films because of her contract with MGM. Engage with the work of Black activists on the subject instead and think about or criticize how the stereotypes from minstrel performances still manifest in popular culture today in different forms.

this isn’t showing up in my replies because of the links so i’m boosting it, tumblr user thehours2002 is smart and thoughtful as always
