ahhh why do you think Connor didn't go to the o2l movie premiere?

He wasn’t really in the actual movie, he had one interview and little screen time, because it was filmed during one of the toughest times of his life. When the premiere came, Con was just apathetic about the whole premiere and somehow ended up not going. All the boys weren’t happy with the movie and half of them didn’t even go.

Motherly love.

Can we talk about Laurelle’s relationship with Connor? Here’s this boy, who is friends with her son, so she automatically cares about. And then she finds out he’s gay, and has only been out to friends and family for a little while. Her heart would break for him. She saw her own son struggle with not being himself within the online community, with having to be two different people depending on who he was out to. She knows how lucky Troye is to have come out to his parents while still young, and to have been immediately accepted. She doesn’t know how Connor’s parents reacted, but they didn’t find out until he was 22, which is two decades of assumptions completely shattered, and no parent would be immediately fine with all of that. She learns all of this from Troye before ever meeting Connor, and feels a strong desire to meet this young man. Maybe she even encouraged Connor to come out to Australia for Troye’s public events. No doubt she offered to host him back in Perth, and wouldn’t take no for an answer. She doesn’t interfere with the budding affections and romance she sees between this American stranger and her own sweet boy, because five minutes with Connor and you know he’s the sort of man to take care of the ones he loves; she knows Troye will always be protected, cherished, and safe with Connor Franta.

Imagine her missing Connor after he left, feeling like the young man was a part of the family, more than any of Troye’s other Youtube friends. She sees the bond the two have, and she wants to see more of it. When they meet up in South Africa, she picks up on Connor’s discomfort with all the public events and not wanting to take any spotlight away from Troye, and while she adores the way he always puts Troye first, she worries that he is ignoring his own needs. So she sticks to him like glue, and he revels in it. His mother loves him dearly, but Laurelle has had an openly gay son for 5 years, and she seems to understand Connor’s concerns and anxieties more than he does himself. Connor doesn’t feel like Laurelle is pushy or overly present, in fact, he feels so loved in her presence, so at peace with who he is. He starts to think about  how lucky Troye is to have these lovely parents, and maybe one day, they could share the remarkable family?

And then they are in New York. And it’s a public event, but Connor isn’t out, so he’s scared to be too close to Troye, or show too much affection, or even be seen with the Mellets too much. And Troye knows why, but his jealousy overtakes his understanding, and he gets mad at Connor for being distant. Laurelle intervenes, taking the boys away from the convention for the afternoon to have some quiet time together. She keeps her distance, watching her boys interact and dote on each other, quietly restoring their friendship and their affections after the storm that was Playlist Live. She’s shopping away from them at one point when she sees some pillows and immediately thinks of her kids. The boys catch up to find her paying for the pizza slice cushions, and gently crying. Troye is concerned that she’s missing home, or Shaun, and Connor is far too worried, not wanting to see this woman who treats him like gold be anything but happy. Laurelle shrugs off their concerns, telling them she isn’t sad. She simply realized that she automatically bought pillows for all three of her boys, and Troye smiles, but Connor doesn’t get it. Laurelle is travelling with only two of her sons, isn’t she? But when she hands him one of the pillows and pulls him into an embrace, he feels completely at home, and overwhelmed with love. He never realized that falling for Troye meant finding a second family, one that he never wanted to say goodbye to. And if he had his way, he never planned to.

AN: It’s Christmas, and everyone should feel loved with their families right now. For those that don’t, I hope you can take some comfort in this, in the love that can exist in the world, and know you are loved by someone, even if you didn’t have the chance to be with them today. Happy Holidays my lovelies.
