The welcome banner is strung up between trees at the entrance of Spring Rise, the Village of Festivals. You don't remember how you ended up on the trail leading to this village, but the vague question quickly disappears after you're struck by the feeling of awe and wonder. The atmosphere in this village is warm and welcoming. The streets are lively and you feel a sense of joy bubbling in your chest.

A local spots you and greets you merrily, offering you a [MAP] of the area, as well as a brochure of activities available for newcomers to partake in.

“You can rent a room at the Rise & Shine Inn during your stay, or take to camping out at the blooming fields if you so wish!”

the local informs you cordially. “There will be fireworks at night, and a parade later this week! Please stay and join the festivities! Just be careful in the forest, there’s many monsters that roam the forest west of here!”

Dear Roleplay Community,

Lately my OC has been getting attention, and let me tell you what that means for me.

So much.

Listen. Try to understand. This girl was designed back in middle school. She has been tweaked, put through countless psychological, physical, and chronological changes. She now stands, surviving a battle of relevancy into my adulthood imagination. She isn’t a simple childhood memory. She has matured with me.

She’s been imaged in so many interactions that will likely never happen.

She’s been the source of great fun with old friends. The source of pain and frustration with new faces.

She’s been ignored when approaching others, and left sitting alone when welcoming others to approach her.

She’s clawed at the glass that holds her separate as “Not Canon”. 

She’s been used to boost others. She’s been used to promote others. 

But she has never been accepted herself before now.

To love an original character is to love a part of yourself. The amount of dedication, attention to detail to the design and backstory. Fending off people trying to steal your ideas. Worry that your character will be hurt by others for the fun of it. Reaching out to write with others and being ignored because the label of “original character” bringing such negative beliefs like unoriginal or poor quality.

If you have an original character, please treat them with respect. It’s true, they may never be popular. They may never get a lot of interaction. It may take years for others to be interested.

But never give up on them. No one can love or understand a work of art like the artist can.
