i will say particularly with the exo fandom, where i have the most extensive knowledge on, fanfics are a pretty big thing. we have subconsciously glorified too many fics that have left an emotional impact to us and because of that things are becoming difficult. so i’m making this post just to explain my personal dos and don’ts of when you read fanfiction that can avoid commotion and maximize happiness, so i hope you guys can share this and avoid more authors deleting in the future and let them enjoy writing!
So apparently, Simon and Martina have recently tweeted something asking for people to submit their favorite fanfics to them.
Here is what I think about the whole thing (no, that is not my blog, but I agree 100%).
Pleasepleaseplease do NOT send a fic to them without permission from the author. For all we know, the video Simon and Martina make could just be them downgrading every fic sent, you know? And like, that’s just not fair to the author’s. Even if the fic actually does suck, that’s just not nice.
BUT WHAT HAPPENS IF THEY’RE JUST SAYING NICE THINGS ABOUT IT!?
But what happens if the author doesn’t want Simon and Martina to talk about it?
Let’s be courteous to the fanfic writers out there. So many of them already have to deal with plagiarism and reposts. We don’t want them to feel even more uncomfortable writing their fics. And as a writer myself (not a very good one I must say, LOL), I definitely would NOT want Simon and Martina to be aware of my fics at all.
So please, don’t send Simon and Martina fics without the author’s permission.
