My name is Colleen and welcome to my world. My wise and wonderful father one day decided to invent his own motto and it is one I try to live by everyday. "You are what you want and want what you are." Who you are in part is who you choose to be. If you are not happy with that then change it. Disclaimer: This blog is 95% Supernatural, Sam and Dean, and Jared and Jensen related and 5% everything else I am interested in. I am also not a fan of Castiel so I try not to discuss him and just stick to the brothers. If none of this floats your boat, you may not like it here very much. But you can come talk to me anyway! I am a pretty nice and easy going person.

I actually agree with your Roswell rant quite a bit, it’s interesting how people wanted malex to be together at the end of the first season, I mean how many endgames on tv do we know that got together after one season, I personally think the fact he went to Maria is a good sign that malex is the direction the show is heading in and people gotta chill a bit, I understand the upset but now the show have been renewed so hopefully next season causes less backlash from the fandom.

I have never liked when endgame couples (and I do think it's been made clear they are meant for each other) are together and happy so quickly. It doesn't make much of a story. I love seeing characters grow individually and together. It makes for a much richer and fullfilling story. Besides, in Michael and Alex's case it wouldn't make much sense. There is too much they need to work through before they can get to a point of happiness. I want to see that struggle and journey because it will make them a more interesting couple who I would feel more connected to in the end.

Roswell rant

I have not posted in such a long time but my annoyance with the Roswell NM fandom and how they have reacted to the finale has brought me out of hiding. I mean no offense but feel this needs to be said.

I remember watching the original Roswell when I was 13 years old. Those memories made me curious about the new Roswell so I decided to watch. The first thing that struck me was how much more human this version of Roswell was and by human I mean, it delves into a lot more complicated and relevant issues. Yes, there is the sci-fi element with the aliens but in this show, they truly do represent a metaphor in so many different ways. With that human component comes relationships. This is where my annoyance kicks in. I am talking about one couple in particular, Alex and Michael. Am I annoyed with how the season finale ended regarding these two? No. Do I wish it was written differently? No. Do I feel is was appropriate given the situation? Yes. Was it the most human response? YES. I think many shippers are neglecting this last part. Please think about Michael for a moment. So many people have said Alex deserve better. Alex does not deserve better. That's not what this is about at all. It's not about "deserving better." It's about understanding what their relationship is and all then painful stuff that comes with it.

I currently am an Intervention Specialist at an inner city school. Most of our kids have grown up in lower income households where they basically have nothing. They have grown up with a significant amount of trauma in their lives. The stories I have been told by my students are enough to give you nightmares because no person should ever have to experience what they have. This trauma has affected them in so many ways. It affects their decision making, it affects their behavior, and it affects their ability to trust those around them. Now, think of Michael for a minute. What has his life been like? At 7, he is ripped away from Max and Isobel because their new adoptive parents don't want to adopt him too. Instead, he is moved around to foster home to foster home, facility to facility, away from Roswell and the only 2 people he knows and is connected to. He is reunited 4 years later but he constantly finds himself in abusive and deplorable situations. Everyone saw the burns from cigarettes on his arm during that flashback. He never had a home. All he wished for was for someone to come from his real home to take him away and back to their planet. He sat in the desert and waited for that. Then, he loses Max again after Rosa dies. Their friendship dies with it and when did this happen? It happened right after his hand was destroyed by homophobic jackass, Alex's father. Alex was the only bright spot in Michael's life. He gave him hope and a place to belong. Michael said this himself but it was all shattered when Alex's father attacked them. Alex was then sent to war and he left willingly because of all that happened. He couldn't win the battle at home so he went over seas to win battles there. After all of this, he comes back 10 years later. He's now a disabled war hero with so much baggage of his own but everything he feels for Michael comes back but he runs from it. He was running from it the majority of the season but they finally get to place of communication when Michael's mother, whom he just discovered, and all those other aliens who had been tortured by Alex's father, were all killed by the orders of the same man. All Michael ever wanted was to find his family and when he does, they are ripped away from him just like Alex was 10 years ago by Seargent Manes.

Michael loves Alex and he always will. He told that to Isobel in the finale but as he said, Alex is tied up with everything that is painful in his life. He just lost his mother. He just lost his family. He just lost the answers he needs and it's all because of Alex's family. Is Alex responsible? Absolutely not and Michael knows that but so many painful things in his life are associated with that family. How is he expected to immediately reconcile all that pain, anger, and sadness to just be with Alex? He's not and he shouldn't have to. Instead, he makes the decision to go to Maria. She's safe and easy and fun and there is no pain associated with her. Michael needs time and can't deal with sorting through all the baggage Alex brings to his life right now. Michael has experienced so much trauma, please remember that. It informs everything he does right now. He needs time to deal and needs time to heal and he can't do that with Alex right now. That is realistic. That is human. I much prefer THAT story to one that is fluffy and idealistic and that's what people wanted in the finale, they wanted an ending of proclamations of love. That would not make sense given who these characters are and what they have been through.

If you understand that and appreciate it, I guarantee you will love their journey so much more.

End rant.

“I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. I have a dream today.”

This speech was delivered on August 28th, 1963 by Martin Luther King Jr. He had a dream he wasn’t able to see come to pass. Today is November 9, 2016, 53 years, 2 months, and 12 days later, the day after the 58th presidential election and yet we find ourselves electing a president who does not see the content of people’s characters but only the color of their skin, or their religion, or race, or sex. You would think we would have taken a step forward in 53 years but last night was one big giant step back.

On this day, 27 years ago, November 9th, 1989, The Berlin Wall came down. That day represented so many good things for the future of this world and for all the people affected. But here we sit today, electing a man who wishes to put up a wall around our borders to keep people out. What an interesting irony we are facing on this particular anniversary. As I look at these two important moments in history, I am immensely saddened to see where we are at now. Forward motion enables progress, backwards motion impedes is. We are currently stuck in reverse.

So how did we get here? How did we elect a man who has a hearing next month where he has been accused of rape? Think about that for a second. How did we elect a man who spoke appallingly about a female reporter in a sexual manner and wrote it off as “locker room talk?” His whole campaign, Trump has done nothing but degrade women. We are the gum underneath his shoe. What message does this send to women and men everywhere? The message it sends is that it is OK to sexually assault women. It’s OK to sexually harass women. It is OK to treat women like second rate citizens. It’s OK to treat women like trash. As someone who has been sexually harassed and assaulted at work by older men, I know what this means for millions of women and girls out there. I felt powerless because nothing was done about it and it was written off as a non-issue. Now the justification has been given for it to continue to happen with the feeling that it is OK because we elected a guy who has done these things. That is the message that has been sent.

How did we get here? How did we elect a man who wants to prevent any Muslim from entering the country? America use to be the beacon of hope. It used to be the place people from other countries migrated to in order to feel safe, to escape persecution, tyranny, and injustice. In the constitution there is to be no establishment of religion and freedom to exercise the religion of your choosing. Trump is spitting on what our forefathers created. He is promoting an anti-Muslim sentiment. The message we sent last night was that it is OK to hate people for their religion. And what about the Hispanics who he wants to exclude from our country as well? Remember that wall?

How did we get here? How did we elect a man whose running mate is very anti the LGBTQ community? A man who believes we should electrocute people who are gay to cure them? A man who believes people in the community should be sent to conversion camps? A man who, let’s not sugar coat it, wants to physically harm people in this community to “fix” them?

How did we get here? How did we elect a man whose history and words have shown he is racist and discriminates against the African American community? He refused to condemn white supremacists who have campaigned for him. The KKK supports him and approves of everything he is doing.

What am I supposed to say to my women friends? My Muslim friends? My Hispanic friends? My LGBTQ friends? My African American friends? To all my friends this effects? All I can say is, I am sorry we failed you.

So again I ask, how did we get here?

There are many reasons that helped Trump become President. One obvious one is he gave a voice to the people who agree with his racist, bigoted, misogynistic, white supremacist views. He encouraged those beliefs to become mainstream and people were no longer afraid to stand up with him. It shows how much hate is alive and well in this country.

The second reason falls on the democrats’ shoulders. In the economic collapse of 2008, so many people lost everything that year. What happens when you lose everything? Sometimes, you get angry. The anger festers and gains momentum when nothing is done for those who were effected. Millions of people were cheated and lost money because of the big pockets of Wall Street but yet no justice was given to these people. Wall Street walked free with padded pockets. I remember that time well. I remember thinking then, why weren’t those responsible held accountable? Why weren’t they prosecuted? I also remember thinking Obama was too afraid to stand up against them. This was a BIG mistake. This helped nurture that flame of anger and fanned the flames to an inferno. Anger at the democratic establishment=Trump as President. People felt Trump could tear the establishment down.

The democrats also screwed up by backing Hilary Clinton in the first place. They have been pipe lining her to the presidency for several years. The party did not want anyone but her. The problem is, they ignored what a polarizing figure she is. So many people genuinely dislike her all across the board. They hopped on a ship they refused to get off and impeded any other ship from challenging her. There is a reason all the polls showed in the primaries that if it was down to Bernie and Trump, Bernie would win handedly. He was fighting for the people and was anti-establishment which is what people, including myself, wanted. I wanted change. Others wanted change. We in all likelihood would not be where we are at now if he was the democratic nominee. The democrats only have themselves to blame for this. Their stubbornness and no longer standing up for and with the every-man helped facilitate this result.

The third reason is the media. During the primaries, you rarely heard another name spoken other than Donald Trump. He is a pop culture icon and our society loves pop culture icons. We place more value on them then we do the issues that really matter. The media helped propel him into the spotlight. The more exposure, the more people latch on. And during the election, they had more coverage over those inconsequential Clinton emails than they did anything else. They poured water on the seeds of doubt already present.

There are other factors as well but it was perfect storm of events that led to the scary situation we find ourselves in. One of the scariest things is the President nominates the Supreme Court Justices. We will be extremely lucky if no other justice dies in the next 4 years. They shape so many things that happen in this country. The ramifications will be felt for decades to come.

The funny thing is, once again the person who received the popular vote did not become President. We have a system which gives an inordinate amount of power to the rural vote. What a messed up system we have.

What a messed up world we live in.

If you are feeling sad, upset, angry, frustrated, indignant, scared, trust me, you are not alone. I am sorry to my fellow Americans of EVERY community. I will stand with you no matter what and you will always have my support.

As Yoda said, “Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.”

Welcome to the dark side.

What Sam would do for Dean

Alright. So I had time to chill out from the finale. A little distance from the initial emotional roller coaster that hit me last night. And I realized something important. Something I haven’t seen on my dash yet.

We all know that Sam was summoning Crowley to make a deal for Dean. After 9 yrs of dealing with demons, deals, and hell Sam was willing to trade his soul for Dean.

But what about an earlier scene? You know, the one where SAM PULLS A LOADED GUN ON THE CROWD OF PEOPLE STANDING BETWEEN HIM AND DEAN. That scene? Sam Winchester, the boy who sacrificed himself for the world (and Dean), the one who gives the benefit of the doubt to monsters, who forgives a traitorous friend - was ready to kill whoever kept him from Dean. Has the importance of that scene sunk in yet? Does that not give you chills?

DO NOT EVER BITCH THAT SAM DOES NOT LOVE DEAN. THAT SAM WOULD NOT DO FOR DEAN WHAT DEAN DID FOR HIM.

Right? That scene has been overshadowed by the ending, but yeah, Sam waving a gun at civilians who stood between him and Dean … that’s our Sammy.
