Nintendo’s comments on region-free gaming for Switch’s online shop ⊟

I really did not expect Nintendo to go all-in on making the Switch region-free! There were worries that Switch owners would only be able to play games from other regions if they bought physical copies, but Nintendo cleared that up in a Q&A about the console published by Kotaku last night.

From what it sounds like, it’s a PSN-style system that lets you create different users to play digital games published in other countries. And based on this photo Nicalis tweeted, changing users is as easy as hitting Y on your controller.

Also shown in that now-deleted tweet: copies of several Nicalis games running on Switch (Cave Story, 1001 Spikes, and The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+), te console’s previously unseen dark user interface, and a hint of Hydra Castle Labyrinth, an indie Japanese freeware game that hasn’t yet been announced for a port. Thanks for the tip, Tony and bopoe!
