5. what made you start your blog?

I started this blog in 2010 so I barely remember but I THINK I heard about tumblr through a high school friend of mine, and it kinda went from there

18. do you believe in ghosts and/or aliens?

probably more yes than no!

aliens seem much more likely to me (this includes extra-terrestrial bacteria, viruses etc), but at the rate we're going we'll never contact them, at least not for several thousands if not hundreds of thousands of years.

our signals into space cover SO little distance -

that the likelihood of anything or anyone hearing us is extemely remote.

aside from that -

  1. aliens exist, but they decline to answer our calls to keep themselves safe from potential threats.
  2. aliens exist, and may be all around us outside of earth's bounds, but hide themselves from us by using simulative reality.
  3. aliens exist, but we haven't been listening for long enough, or on the right 'frequencies', so to say.
  4. aliens did exist, but they've been wiped out - either by other intelligent species, or by themselves.
  5. aliens exist, and they're already here unnoticed (I vote cephalopods).
  6. aliens exist, but their civilisation is so technologically/biologically advanced that we could never hope to communicate in any meaningful way. some say these civilisations could be waiting for us to advance before making contact. (at a 0.72 on the kardashev scale, earth doesn't even reach tier one).
  7. aliens don't exist, and we are alone. this is terrifying, but I find it unlikely.

there are several other aspects to this 'argument' under the fermi paradox that I haven't included.

my main stance is that our existence is a statistical miracle, so who knows - but I'm hopeful.

as for ghosts? spooky scary. maybe they exist, maybe not. who can really say.

"Every single empire in its official discourse has said that it is not like all the others, that its circumstances are special, that it has a mission to enlighten, civilize, bring order and democracy, and that it uses force only as a last resort. And, sadder still, there always is a chorus of willing intellectuals to say calming words about benign or altruistic empires, as if one shouldn't trust the evidence of one's eyes watching the destruction and the misery and death brought by the latest mission civilizatrice."
