kathy with the scorching tea

Hey Iโ€™m abt to talk abt religious child abuse so if youโ€™re not up for that keep scrolling

Not to be That Guy โ„ข yet again but the tag โ€œtrainupachildโ€ is a reference to a fundamentalist Christian parenting book that basically recommends beating your child for basically everything and has resulted in child death.

That kid isnโ€™t doing that bc heโ€™s just organically come about this great love for godโ€”heโ€™s doing that because literally dramatic displays of โ€œgraceโ€, ESPECIALLY PUBLICLY in ways that can bring their guardians praise, is one of the few things that will give him a positive response from his guardians

like I get itโ€”we wanna dunk on the mom for being obnoxious, but knowing exactly what that tag means has me absolutely nauseous

Train Up A Child advises parents to use plastic tubes to beat them with because they are less likely to leave marks that might lead to CPS calls. It also says belts and branches are good for places that canโ€™t be seen but does caution to use a โ€œwillowyโ€ branch if the child is under the age of one.

Yes, they advocate for hitting infants with sticks

I have read parts of To Train Up a Child (out of curiosity) โ€ฆ The whole thesis is that you should โ€œbreak [the childโ€™s] willโ€ early and โ€œdominateโ€ them by any means necessary, resulting in children too afraid and abused to act out. Itโ€™s one of the most monstrous things Iโ€™ve ever seen put to paper.

Why are christian fundamentalists such shitty people?

Because shitty people are drawn to ideologies and social hierarchies that validate their power over others and allow them authoritarian control. Not that there arenโ€™t shitty people everywhere, but youโ€™ll find disproportionately high numbers in such environments.

cursed biology cows? ๐Ÿ„

all domestic cattle are all descended from the Aurochs, an enormous ice-age megafauna bovid that ranged from Europe to Asia to North Africa!

Aurochs were actually domesticated at LEAST twice in different areas more than 10,000 years ago, which is why Indian Zebu-type cattle look so different from European cattle!

they share a common ancestor but different roots.ย

more importantly though, it means that at least two separate groups of neolithic humans looked at a six-foot-tall jet black bovine rage machine and thoughtย โ€œgonna make friends with thatโ€, and then they did it. those wild sons of bitches, they did it.

Neolithic humans squared: Hello death bovine. would you like some sweet grass and perhaps some fruit? Aurochs: You know what? Yes I would you bipedal freak.

Wild Cats That Look Like Domestic Cats!

European wild cat (Felis silvestris), sometimesย erroneously listed as the ancestor of the domestic cat:

African wild cat (Felis lybica), the actual ancestor of the domestic cat:

Black-footed cat (Felis nigripes), it may be cute and very small but it has a 60% success rate when it comes to hunting, which is more than any other cat:

Sand cat (Felis margarita), this is kind of loose, as theyโ€™re basically the Felid version of the fennec fox:

Chinese mountain cat (Felis):

Geoffreyโ€™s cat (Leopardus geoffroyi):

Leopard cat (Prionailurus bengalensis):

And rusty-spotted cat (Prionailurus rubiginosus):

Donโ€™t try to pet them! Iโ€™m sured theyโ€™d love a box to sit in, though.

deep cleaning and organizing my kitchen brings me the closest thing Iโ€™m gonna find to joy in the middle of a pandemic

I take it back!!!

joy is when my teen & preteen kids crawled into my bed this morning for a family snuggle and i helping my quasi-estranged grandpa find the right cereal for his dying wife at the grocery store later and going to my momโ€™s this afternoon to set up the desk i built for her bc she starts working from home this week and marveling at my youngestโ€™s minecraft world and sharing the same fucked up sense of humor as my dad and admiring my friends for their creativity and, just now, seeing the happiness on my oldestโ€™s face when i made them from scratch biscuits and gravy bc theyโ€™re tired of soup and smoothies.

things are rough as hell out there but today, for me, was filled with a bunch of really Nice moments. they were all connected to people i love and iโ€™m very grateful

But also:

The only way capitalism works is through systemic wage stagnation and taxpayer-funded bailouts.

Left on its own, free of public welfare, capitalism would die. Quickly. #LateStageCapitalism

Only one thing yโ€™all can take from trans women. Notes.

i hope all of these girls have a great day and i love the girl who forgot her wig but the sis with the hijabi damn near made me cry sob i love this <3333333

Another thing abt this video: nearly every beauty involved is Indigenous or Black, the two minority groups of trans women that frequently get left out of discussions when it comes to highlighting trans women and their beauty, and the two groups at the highest risk of violence while trans. These women deserve love and praise just like yโ€™allโ€™s favorite white women do. Show up for Black and Indigenous trans women.
