Ciel just held Alois tightly, cheeks slightly flushed as he buried his head against his friend’s shoulder. “I’m far from it… I just care about you.” 

“That’s what makes you the best. At least, to me.” He hugged him to his chest tightly.

Ciel realised what he was doing, and slowly pulled away, awkwardly scratching the back of his head. “Uh...sorry, I- I got carried away...”

Hearing this made Ciel feel awful. How could anyone do that to Alois? He stayed silent for a moment, then without thinking he pulled Alois into a tight hug. “That’s okay…” he mumbled.

Alois was shocked by the hug, but quickly relaxed and hugged him back. “You’re the best, Ciel.”

Ciel just held Alois tightly, cheeks slightly flushed as he buried his head against his friend’s shoulder. “I’m far from it... I just care about you.”

"I’ll try." Alois took Ciel’s hand from his shoulder and into his own. "Thank you."

Ciel’s eyes widened slightly, and he could have sworn his heart skipped a beat when their hands touched. No, it must have been his imagination… His cheeks turned a light shade of pink, and he glanced away. “You…don’t have to thank me….”

Alois giggled softly, letting Ciel’s hand go reluctantly. “You deserve to be thanked. You’re the only person who has actually..cared about me. So, thank you for caring about me.”

Hearing this made Ciel feel awful. How could anyone do that to Alois? He stayed silent for a moment, then without thinking he pulled Alois into a tight hug. “That’s okay...” he mumbled.

Alois relaxed beneath the soft touch to his shoulder, smiling slightly as he met Ciel’s eyes. “Thank you…sorry about that.”

Ciel sighed, unable to hold back a small smile. “It’s alright. You’re stuck with me for a long time.”

“I’m fine with that.” Alois smiled back slightly.

Ciel’s smile widened a little, his hand still gently resting on his friend’s shoulder. “I’m glad. I don’t want you thinking I’m going to leave, alright?” 

"I’ll try." Alois took Ciel’s hand from his shoulder and into his own. "Thank you."

Alois had learned the hard way that friendships never last, at least for him. He had never been able to make friends easily, and keep them when he did. He feared being abandoned, and he could feel Ciel, the only friend he had, slipping away slowly. “I don’t understand why you haven’t left yet.” The blond muttered, looking down at his feet as he stood before Ciel.

The blue-haired boy stared at his friend in disbelief, first in shock, then frustration as he shook his head. “How could you say that?” Ciel asked bitterly, searching the other boy’s face for answers. “You’re my friend, I’m not going anywhere…” he paused, “…unless you want me to.” Was that what this was about? 

"No, I don’t want you to! It’s just…everybody leaves me. So I just assumed you would too. Sorry." Alois but down on his lip hard, looking him awkwardly.

Ciel looked at Alois, his expression gradually softening, and he reached out to gently place a hand on his shoulder. “Well, I’m not everybody, am I? You don’t have to worry.”
