I feel like I should post more funny teaching stories here

Because I definitely have them.

For example, I have come to learn over the course of holding this position that Japanese school culture festivals are, in many ways, just as filled with zany hijinks as they are in your average anime.

Some highlights from my recent experiences with the mysterious beast known as the culture festival:

-Class 1-B presented a statistical report on this season’s fishing hauls. Sounds boring, right? Nope - it was presented via interpretive dabbing, with all of the class officers in glow-in-the-dark squid masks

-3-A, for their presentation, composed and performed an enka ballad about why our town is NOT famous

-Not to be outdone, 3-C crafted a loving, emotional video tribute to their three years of junior high school…narrated by the disembodied head of former US president John F. Kennedy projected on the gymnasium wall

-2-B made a ping-pong table. Their presentation consisted of walking onstage, saying “We made a ping-pong table” and sitting down.

-Students were allowed to order special lunches from the set festival menu up to two weeks in advance. The vice-principal was meant to pass out notices explaining how many of each item students might order. He failed to do so. A student ordered 28 muffins. The faculty watched in horror as he ate every single one.

THE AMANA COLONIES

It’s so strange the things that you only discover accidentally.  I’ve been a lifelong resident of Iowa and had never even heard of the Amana Colonies until we were in Iowa County working on Forgotten Iowa.  And even then, it was only on mistake en route between two towns.  There was just no way we could have done that entire county plus the seven colonies of Amana in one trip.  This means that South Amana, Iowa has the weird distinction of being photographed in two totally different seasons.

August:

November:

We reached South Amana after a long trip of winding gravel and dirt roads.  There was road construction just outside of the colonies and no detours in between, so we were already hurting on time the moment we hit them.

I always try to check out local businesses and the Amana colonies seemed to be built upon these things, so I felt it especially necessary to check them all out.  Unfortunately, at our first stop no less, I was scolded for shooting photos inside the store and left without much of a conversation. It was a bad way to start the day, certainly, but I was optimistic.  Most of Iowa is aged in such a way out of necessity.  Iowa carries a certain amount of grit due to this fact.  That’s what made the aging of South Amana seem so odd to me: the aging almost felt synthetic.  There wasn’t a lot of abandoned or forgotten anything, in fact.  Even the less extravagant homes were maintained.

On to West Amana.

Please, please, please help out with Haley’s amazing story!! It’s a fantastic read with fantastic female leads, fantastic antagonists, did I mention Cemetery Sea is fantastic??

I have tumblr blocked on my laptop so I’m mobile blogging and Jae was so kind as to post the link but anyway YES I have entered a contest to see if I can create interest in Cemetery Sea by just letting it be accessible so if you guys would give it a shot and a vote (you just click the little heart♡!) I would be eternally grateful!

I’m currently in 6th place as far as votes go but I want to make a point in saying that the contest also considers reading statistics. If you’re only voting, which I definitely appreciate, don’t get me wrong, the reading stats don’t increase. It’s a great system to eliminate vote campaigning and encourage guest reads. Please please please READ and vote! Cemetery Sea is my indulgent baby where you get to see pirates and mermaid and princesses and you don’t spend every page turn fearing for your favorite character’s life! It’s a fun read, I swear it!

CEMETERY SEA IS IN FIRST PLACE!!! But don’t be fooled, we still have until late December before the contest is done with and the previous first place is putting up a fight. It’s neck and neck! If you haven’t been able to, start reading, voting, and sharing the inkitt link!

Person: How many OC's do you have?
Me: That depends. Are you asking how many are in my current project? Or how many in all ongoing projects? Or how many in all projects, both current and defunct? Named characters only, or do unnamed characters count? What level of character development and/or involvement in the story is necessary to be counted? Should characters that were recycled from my old projects count as one or two? Should characters that were merged be counted as one or two? Should I count characters that were written out of the narrative? What about characters who are in my notes but haven't been written into the draft yet? Many of them are well developed with long backstories. How long are you willing to wait while I count them
