Am I the only one who thinks that hitting a kid and abuse are different things? Like, if I ever had a kid, I wouldn’t spank their ass raw or something like that. But a bop on the mouth or the ear pull or a smack upside the head? Yea. Those are behavior modifiers.

Except they’re not.

The studies done by the trained psychologists in this joke show that little kids don’t associate being hit with the thing they’ve done wrong. Very small children only understand consequences that are directly caused by the thing they did. Steal a biscuit, biscuit tastes good. Then for no reason mummy hit me. Very different to stole a biscuit, now no biscuit after dinner because I stole a biscuit.

And they also show that when a child is old enough to understand why they are being hit that non-physical punishment is equally as effective and less mentally harmful in the long run.

Do you know who benefits the most from hitting as a punishment? The parent. It gives a satisfaction rush. Parents do it because it makes them feel good.

Basically kids have two stages: too young to understand why they are being hit so physical punishment is useless for anything other than teaching a child that bigger stronger people can hit you whenever they like (Which sounds like the same lesson you would learn from abuse)

And the second stage is old enough to be reasoned with so many punishment options are available and you chose physical violence because it makes *you* feel better, which is an abusive action.

The only time a person should ever use violence against another human being, of any age, is to stop that person from being violent themselves.

Hitting a stranger is a crime. Hitting someone small who relies on you for food, love, and shelter should be as well. Don’t hit your fucking kid.

Again: DONT HIT YOUR KID!!!!!

Not only did Manchester pride think it was appropriate for them to have PRISON GUARDS at pride, but they thought that it was appropriate for them to have this float

This is like impressively tone deaf

I wanna bring this back while Manchester pride is under scrutiny.

i’m starting to think the problem is just Manchester

Nah the problem is definitely pride in general being overly commercialised. At London Pride last year I just watched dumbstruck as the endless corporation floats went by with like the occasional local interest and protest groups being drowned out by the big sponsored party floats.

Here are some examples of how companies just slapped the most inane slogan they could think of on their floats, handed out free shit with their logos made rainbow on them, and that was 90% of the parade.

Let’s not reduce it to just one pride parade being problematic, because this is a pervasive trend in pride celebrations. Our spaces are being coopted by marketing opportunists performing wokeness in the hopes of winning over what is now a commercially viable social group.

Support your local queer organisations, support your local queer events, don’t let capitalism shoehorn it’s way into everything we fought to have just so corporations can make a quick buck off of our community.

The people who organized pride in my town last year banned corporations and political parties from walking as a group. It was great, they got a lot of shit for it, like politicians tried to play it like they just want to be supportive and “you’re suppressing our rights”, but they handled it so well like “you’re still free to come to pride and support us, you just can’t promote yourselves, this year’s parade is about solidarity so we all walk together”. Surprise a lot of people who claimed they just wanted to be supportive didn’t come… Best pride ever!

“Sometimes the poor are praised for being thrifty. But to recommend thrift to the poor is both grotesque and insulting. It is like advising a man who is starving to eat less.”

The Addamses may well be the healthiest, most functional family unit to ever grace the small screen.

I think I’ve told this story before, but I read an article a long time ago that they asked children who watched this show why they loved it.  They expected answers to be about how they like the weird, slightly creepy stuff.  But no, most of the kids answered that it was because the Mommy and Daddy loved each other so much.

Some of y’all haven’t become so disillusioned with your own reality that you spend years of your life daydreaming about entirely made up worlds and people and it shows
