A bit of reimagination of traditional Ukrainian (and Slavic in general) folklore with a flare of fantasy. Marena is mostly known as a mythological creature representing the circle of existence , goddess of the winter, and death. She plays a major role in rituals related to greeting new summer and fertility.

My latest painting! I’m working on a series of paintings with a surreal dreamscape feeling, and this is the first one. I sometimes have dreams that I’m in these weird, sprawling landscapes that remind me of places from my childhood, but really exaggerated and extreme.
