his face retorted, looking slightly disturbed. this kid looked too happy,      and jaxon didn’t want to ruin it. shifting slightly from his cheek, he put his      elbows on the table & propped up his hand, resting it under his chin.

‘ do you remember… anything from last night? ‘

“I remember...” Though he didn't really want to. With the last bite, the boy pushed the bowl towards the man. “I have to leave now, right?” Without even waiting for an answer, the child slipped down from the table and went towards the bedroom to get his katana-- he didn’t need to hear the answer for him to know what it would be.

staring at the child, he silently nodded his head & sat across from michi,       gripping his hands in the process. a long look at michi made jaxon’s stomach       suddenly churn. the transition from a fragile, bleeding boy to a vibrant, happy       boy was hard to take in. it reminded jaxon of such a past.

setting his jaw, he spoke after a minute or two michi, ‘ jaxon muttered,        inhaling a deep breath. this kid looked too happy, and he didn’t want to ruin        it. shaking his head, he scowled.

 ‘ um. nevermind. ‘

“Hm?” It’s been a very long time since he’s last relaxed. A long time since he’s been able to do something without looking over his shoulder every few seconds. It’s a nice atmosphere, and the kid doesn’t even realize that he could easily be thrown out.

“Wha’s wrong?” Excuse him-- he’s talking with his mouth open, but he doesn’t mean any disrespect. He’s not one who excels in manners. He did raise himself on the streets after all.

    ' yup,

jaxon sighed relieved, already finding himself tired of taking care of a child.       normally, it’s just him, his dogs, his bird… & no squeaky voices nor little feet       following him. he found it odd——how was he supposed to take of this kid?         it made him think of his sister—how she took care of jaxon growing up. jax       was nothing like his sister, he doubted he would make a good guardian.. or    something like that. the kid would be better off at an orphanage, in his opinion.

jus’- just eat. want me t’ stay here or give ya some space? i think.

his words made him worry this kid wouldn’t understand. he rephrased.        perhaps if he sat with the child, he would get some answered out of him.

Peeking at Jaxon, Michi shoved another spoonful of delicious oatmeal into his mouth. It seemed that he was actually thinking about the answer-- taking him a whole two bites before finally vocalizing his response.

"Can you stay?" Just in case the dog comes back, he told himself.

Though now his attention went right back to eating, his tiny little legs swinging back and forth happily. The kid looked a lot better sitting at Jaxon's table than hurting in the alleyways-- also, he'd just run away again if he was sent back to he orphanage.

' — erm,  his dark brows, watching the clumsy child stumble over his own        feet, he thought for a moment. for a kid with a sword, he’s still.. a kid. he        shuffled over awkwardly, bending over the child’s shoulder, picked up the        spoon, shoveled some oatmeal onto it, & showed it to michi.

’ ya blow on it, like this. ' jaxon blew gently, the steam gently blowing away        from the oatmeal. cooling things down was not his expertise.        ’ jus’ do that ‘til it gets warm, then you can eat it.

"Oh, okay." Don't blame him for not knowing something as basic as blowing on hot food. He's never been taught-- and the food he's stolen in the past was never this hot. "Thanks." And now he'd snatch the spoon back from Jaxon, and shove it into his mouth.

"It's still hot." He whined, sticking his tongue out with the oatmeal on it. It cooled down quickly enough, though, so he brought his tongue back into his mouth. "But it tastes good." And that's all that matters-- also, look how talkative he is! Normally this kid doesn't open his mouth unless he has to-- yet he's here blabbering on!

taking in a deep breath, he nodded, pulling the microwave open to      carefully take out the oatmeal. it didn’t burn him, but still. this kid probably      remembered what jaxon’s gift was, but jaxon prayed he didn’t know.        reaching into a drawer, he pulled out a spoon, gave the oatmeal a quick      stir then moved it to a tiny table. fearing for the child to get hurt again, he      returned, placing his hands in the boy’s underarms.       ‘ here ya go- he mumbled, removing him from the counter with ease,       & placed him on the ground. the table was only a few steps away, so       he gestured to the table & looked down at the boy with a small smile.                              ’ there, go eat. it might be hot, so, careful.. i guess. ‘

The dog is gone-- and the kitchen is quiet. Anxieties are still high, but not enough to stop a smile from appearing. It's been such along time since he's had anything decent to eat, that once his feet hit the ground he runs for the oatmeal. Runs so fast that he nearly trips.

Obviously he's not the careful type. Which is why, once seated (on his knees), he pretty much burnt his tongue on the hot oatmeal. "Owwww," he whined. "Why's it so hot?" It's too hot, which means he has to wait-- and patience is not a virtue to him. "Can you make it cooler?"

yeah. i was makin’ this for yo-

his sentence was cut off when his biggest dog, pepper, came zooming     out & charging directly at michi. jaxon’s eyebrows furrowed into an angry look,     & before pepper could reach michi, he swooped up the child & carefully placed   him on the counter in a sit-down position, & rose his voice in a command at the dog.

' pepper! you stupid dog! get back, you fucking-

again, he paused, thinking, i shouldn’t be cursing in front of kids. nonetheless,       jaxon shuffled the dog back into his sister’s room ( aka the restricted area ) & slammed       the door, huffing. quickly returning to the kitchen, he shook his head.

’ i’m sorry, that was one’f my dogs, pepper. she’s young ‘nd.. really excited,        whenever someone visits. i have another dog, he’s black ‘nd fat, ‘nd old. he’ll        jus’ sniff ya. i’m sorry if she scared you. '

He very nearly pulled his katana out-- that's how scared he had been. Even up high, on the counter where Jaxon had put him, Michi felt vulnerable enough to still feel scared. It didn't help that Jaxon was yelling profanities-- all in all this situation made the boy very anxious and very frightened.

"I don't want to be sniffed." He told Jaxon when he returned, tears very nearly pouring down from red eyes. It's not on the level of phobia, but Michi was indeed terrified of dogs.

Trying to calm down, the child inched back on the counter-- keeping his feet from dangling just in case another dog entered the kitchen (didn't want them to nip at his feet!). "C-Can I please eat now?" Poor kid-- he's traumatized.

he heard tiny footsteps, looking back, he saw michi following him. for a      split second you could see a smirk form, then fade. he continued his way      to the kitchen silently, then into the cupboard he pulled out oatmeal. jaxon      figured the child was sensitive right now, so he needed something soft &      warm to eat.       thus, he grabbed a bowl, then opened the box & poured the oatmeal into        the bowl. shifting to the sink, a cup of water was disposed from the faucet &      into the bowl. afterwards, he popped open the microwave, placed the bowl      in the center, then shut it & set it for two minutes.

thereafter, jaxon looked down at the child, studying his red eyes. weird.        he remained silently, slowly rising an eyebrow.

It's not until he saw the food that he realized he was actually starving. It must have been weeks since a normal meal touched his lips, and thus his desire for whatever was put into the square oven thing grew large.

He made eye-contact for a split second, looked away for another split second, and the met Jax's eyes again. "Can I have..." It was very difficult for him to ask anything. He normally liked doing things on his own. "Can I please have some of that?" And he pointed to the microwave, nervously nipping at his bottom lip with his teeth. He's also not sure if he was even allowed out of his room--

but all of that was forgotten about when he heard a bark, and that excited dog came zooming at him. His heart nearly stopped, and in a second he was throwing himself at Jaxon with real fear shining bright in his eyes. "DON'T LET IT EAT ME!" Came the shrill scream, his voice cracking at the intensity.

he watched with intent as Michi waddled across the room inattentively,     just to grab his sword. what was this little kid doing with a sword anyway?     nevertheless, jaxon paused, speaking after the child settled himself into     jaxon’s bed once more, placing a hand on his hip.

okay. well, michi, i’ll be right back, stay here. ‘

a dismissed wave was given, then her rotated on his heel & left the room.

As soon as Jaxon left the room, Michi felt something he hadn't felt in a while-- and that was loneliness. To think he'd enjoy the presence of someone else enough to slip from the bed and follow them. Normally he'd just obey and keep to himself-- but Jaxon was different. And Michi wanted to observe him some more (or, in other words, be with him more).

And so he opens the door with his good arm's hand, and follows-- being extra weary of the animals. And oh, look at that, the katana is left on the bed.
