POV (Severus) 

I paced around my chambers, my nerves were building far more than I would like to admit and it was taking all of my composure to stop myself from apparating to the Finley cottage and seeing for myself if Aurora was fond of my gift to her. 

I had spotted it during the summer, on a visit to London for supplies for the upcoming year and the moment my eyes fell on that beautiful star pendant in the shop window, I knew I needed to purchase it for her, so I did.

Potions the next day was rather uneventful, Marigold and I worked on our chopping and peeling quietly discussing holiday plans while Severus glided around the room and hovered over everyone but me. I assumed he was avoiding me because of his outburst last night, and if I'm being honest I really shouldn’t have come to the dungeons uninvited. Umbridge was making the castle feel more like a prison, which meant the students and the teachers were all feeling on edge.

I had hoped that she would do as she said and pull Aurora out of class the next day as she said she would but when class came and went I assumed she had changed her mind and decided to wait until another class.

Apparently, the curse that Umbridge invented for the quill heals the wound once you've finished writing the sentence and then re-scratches the sentence into your skin…over and over, and by the end of the punishment I was leaving the classroom with a raw, red scar on the top of my hand.

I spent a good amount of time that evening in the shower, letting the hot water cascade down my body and clear my mind. After about an hour, I realized it was probably hopeless and I desperately needed to go to bed and try to get at least a couple hours of sleep before classes tomorrow.
