as someone who took a course on copyright and intellectual property this whole post is crap. #1 if its fanart, you dont fucking own it. #2 if its original, and you made it in a medium that can be kept (such as how a sand sculpture is taken pics of to preserve the scultures existence) it is automatically copyrighted. bam. no fees, youre fucking welcome. copyright applies to anything that is in a physical, preservable medium, and yes that includes the internet. #3 this is the same shit all websites use because they use user content to promote themselves. those pics and illustrations u see on the login pages arent made by tumblr, they are user content. how do they do that? they dont ask you, they just put it there and they credit the blog they took it from as well. chill the hell out. #4 lets repeat #1 if its fanart YOU DONT OWN IT its not yours, its derivative content made by you and thats about it,a and tumblr isnt the one you should be worried about using your stuff for ads, its the companies ypur doing fanart for instead. and big tip here, most of the time, they can afford the big expensive lawsuits, you cant, so even if it were a question of stealing content, good luck affording it. #5 if ur pissy about tumblrs terms and conditions, better delete your deviantart, facebook (ohoho theyre even worse), instagram, twitter… bc guess what,… they promote themselves with user content too.
