Fish Out of the Water

forthefuturefestival Day 8: Future Fish

  • Chef Rin often goes out onto the fishing boats that provide the produce for his restaurant so that he can approve of their methods and such
  • On a particularly frigid day the crew of fishermen catch what they think to be a large tuna
  • When they brought up the net there was not a tuna, but a merman in shimmering blue
  • Something like love at first glance drew Rin to the beautiful merman and despite the scowl on his face, Rin knew that this man must have been the most gorgeous person
  • Because he felt obliged Rin offered the man who introduced himself as Haru to lunch the following day as a way of apology
  • The offense came on the next day when Rin and Haru graced a restaurant (not Rin’s) that served fish
  • Of course Haru explodes with anger and Rin with embarrassment and apology
  • Rin pays for the uneaten meal and after Haru had cooled his temper they found a small vegetarian house where Rin told Haru of the original Little Mermaid story (as a bit of revenge as even Haru had recognized his overreaction from before)
