I regret that post, not because I was wrong but because I neglected the fact that the main thing that sets the Holocaust apart from other genocides is the fact that it industrialized death in a way humanity had never managed before. It was a factory-esque method of mass torture and killing that spanned numerous countries, something that I feel like many people fail to grasp.

It was not about percentages or use of specific weapons or forced removal from homes. It was about human beings basically being put on a conveyer belt to their deaths, with their own loved ones being forced to participate. There has been no other event that has operated like that anywhere near that scale and, hopefully, there never will be again.

Using Holocaust comparisons for any mass death and atrocity in the world contributes to Holocaust denial because it obscures and hides the realities of the Holocaust as an industrialized genocide. We are already seeing what lack of Holocaust education in schools has done and how it's contributing to antisemitism, we really do not need to be contributing to that.

maybe tumblr will listen if i speak its language: remember in 2020 when we all had to sit down and realize that everyone has internalized racism? that everyone has prejudices even if they don't realize it? being antisemitic is more than sitting around wearing a swastika saying you want jews to die. take a look inside yourself and you'll find antisemitism there, too. it's time to address it.

my sister is studying to be a rabbi. yesterday their friends, also studying to be rabbis and are visibly Jewish by wearing yarmulkes, were yelled at just for being Jewish. I woke up this morning to antisemitism on my dashboard. please care about multiple things at once. care about this, too. address your antisemitism.

what an antisemitic holocaust distortion bullshit.

nazis killed 1.500.000 jewish children.

if you take the broadest span possible from the rise of Hitler in 1933, that is 342 children per day.

if you take it from the wannsee conference, the "final solution" to the "jewish question" it is 1095 children per day.

10 days of killing jewish children gets you to over 10.000 dead children. TEN DAYS.

just. shut the fuck up oh my god. this is holocaust distortion at its finest

Rue, who is dressed in a gossamer gown complete with wings, flutters her way to Caesar. A hush falls over the crowd at the sight of this magical wisp of a tribute. Caesar’s very sweet with her, complimenting her seven in training, an excellent score for one so small. When he asks her what her greatest strength in the arena will be, she doesn’t hesitate. “I’m very hard to catch,” she says in a tremulous voice. “And if they can’t catch me, they can’t kill me. So don’t count me out.” “I wouldn’t in a million years,” says Caesar encouragingly.

-- Rue's interview, Chapter 9 of "The Hunger Games" by Suzanne Collins

If Caesar said anything rude to Rue, I'd have to fight him.

Brows raise in agreement. Her head turns away from him. Grey eyes looking down at the floor. "Actions aren't going to help me here." The Games are over, but they don't feel over. She defied the Games. There are two victors. She should be dead.

She brings her attention back to Caesar with slow movements. She nods before he has a chance to finish. There isn't a choice, not today. Once his next words hit her, she's startled. A flush that rises through even the thick layer of blush Cinna made sure was placed upon her cheeks with eyes wide with fear and confusion. Why would Haymitch tell him? Why would he tell anyone?

Oh how she wishes she could be a better actress. Her face lays out her thoughts - her fears, her truth. Her words must sound like lies. "That is what I am, Caesar. I couldn't live without him." There's a hint of truth to her words, but it's a truth with a layer she doesn't fully comprehend yet.

quite  frankly,  katniss  everdeen  is  a  terrible  liar.  wide  doe-eyes,  perfect  blush  to  the  pink  hues.  responsibility  that  hits  for  all  of  it  ⸺  for  the  how  and  the  why  she  is  in  this  situation.  truths  yet  to  be  told,  and  perfect  little  lies  are  all  they  can  offer  each  other.

it’s  standing  at  odds.  in  some  months  now,  she  will  bring  plenty  of  questions  to  the  capitol.  maybe  the  fire  can  sweep  across  the  nation  until  then.   but  he  sees  it  in  her.  the  same  responsibility  he’s  had  for  them  all.  kind  hands  pat  her  red  cheeks.    "  great.  you’ll  be  home  in  no  time.  plenty  of  months  to  live  with  him.    "

"  you  looked  quite  nice  with  your  head  in  his  chest.  good  dynamic  for  the  cameras.  "    little  need  to  talk,  too.    he  pauses.  gaze  lingers.  how  much  more  there  is  to  be  said:  forewarnings  for  a  sixteen  year  old  kid  that  doesn’t  know  any  better.   but he has been robbed of his voice.

Nothing you say will be wrong. That's a lie, and they both know it. He just doesn't know to what degree it's a lie to her. Eyes are heavy on her. She's felt it since leaving the arena. If they, her and Peeta, put on anything less than the perfect show of a perfect couple and a picture of young love then it's over. No one realizes it's all an act.

Katniss just nods her head. "I know. It's a beautiful dress." She practices her tone. The flip from survival to the perfect doll. From survivor and killer to a beautiful model. Both of which are not her. It's all a role. Everything in the Capitol is fake. Not just the pinks that are too deep and the greens too green.

"I just don't know what to say." It's true. She flashes a brief look to Peeta still working with his stylist. A fake, loving look or maybe it's not. She sees him, and she sees District 12, Prim, Gale, even her mother. Katniss pulls her attention back to Caesar, a faux giggle falls past her lips, "I've never been much of a talker." Ironically, Caesar makes talking easy. It's strange. The man who gets to know us, show us off: both in beauty and personality, just to announce our deaths for spectacle.

weaving  stories  for  an  audience  on  the  edge  of  their  seats :  it’s  not  katniss  everdeen’s  words  that  did  the  convincing.  but  her  actions  had  sparked  something  wholeheartedly  unbeknownst  to  her  yet.  no  need  to  turn,  blonde  patches  of  her,  timid  smile,  broad  shoulders.  peeta  mellark  had  enchanted  the  audience  in  quite  the  same  way  as  caesar  would  have  done:  words  were  their  forte.

"  people  are  drawn  to  you  for  what  you  do,  not  for  what  you  say,    he  speaks.  both  hands  hold  hers,  skin  on  skin,  same  tone,   and  he  pats  her  kindly.  the  face  of  a  revolution  looks  like  a  nervous  sixteen  year  old  child,  and  he  sees  something  in  her  that’s  been  buried  for  too  long.  how  scary  the  world  had  been  at  mere  sixteen  years,  how  its  endless  punishments  had  always  lingered  by  the  corner  ⸺  ready  to  find  its  next  victim.

"  right  now,  you  are  a  young  girl  in  love,  are  you  not?  "  a  vague  nod  toward  the  other  victor  in  the  room.  the  other  victor.  a  novelty  that  won’t  ever  wear  off :  so  this  is  what  the  revolution  looks  like.  "  madly  in  love,  haymitch  told  me is that who you want to be ? her  cheeks  are  blush  in  pink  innocence.  to  her,  today  is  about  survival.  to  the  country,  today  is  the  first  day  of  an  obvious  lie.  defiance  forsaken  ⸺  sheer  teenage  love television  lies  uphold  the  regime  in  question,  carving  away  at  the  dissatisfaction. they won’t succeed.

it’s  been  something  he  had  held  his  breath  for.  propaganda  tuned  in  twenty  four  seven  had  been  broken  in  the  same  ways  they  had  grown  hopeful.

but  she  is  rosy  innocence  and  nervous  teenage  eyes.  and  he  cannot  help  to  hug  her,  pat  her  cheeks,  and  reassure  her. SPARTACUS had been an image, ⸺ no real person ! ⸺ and guilt clutches him tight.

" nothing  you  say  will  be  wrong. "  the words  fall  from  his  lips.  they  will  make  sure  that  hers  get  carried  across.  the  sweet,  tooth-aching  romance  defiant  no  matter  how  it  is  spun.  love  endured  or  the regime’s grip exposed.

nothing  you  say  will  be  wrong,  because  the  spark  cannot  be  upended  anymore.

She smelled like white roses | final chapter

Summary: Mrs. Snow was married to her husband for more years than her fingers could count and Mr. Heavensbee had great plans laid out for the nation that would get him removed from the precious thing called 'life' if found out. Somehow, both collide at an evening dinner, share a few interests, and repeatedly have to remind themselves that they shouldn't be that foolish. But one can rebel against the President in more ways than either of them imagined. Or: The story where Plutarch Heavensbee has to add one more liability to the list of "people to protect" and it is getting awfully crowded.

Chapter summary: Virgilia had never been here, and it feels like a grand kind of mistake.

Below the cut is another meme selection. As per usual, if you wish to remain entirely spoiler free, this is something for after the chapter :)

heya folks

so the past ... two years or so i've been working on this and it's finally finished. would be lovely if you give this a read :)

it's about virgilia snow (character i also roleplay on @revolutionaes) and her journey through the capitol. there's some romance, some political science stuff and a longer journey of overcoming one's traumatic experiences. (abuse tw in some chapters with a warning at the start of each chapter!)

i know this isn't caesar related alone, but he does feature in some of the chapters and overall it's obviously still my writing and my work and i'm really quite proud of this.
