people misunderstand what ‘gifted kid’ actually means but it’s ok it’s fine it’s cool it’s good

it’s not about actually being gifted, it’s about an initial higher scoring on standardized testing that means little to nothing or being good at learning in the way elementary and middle school wants you to, so you get marked as ‘advanced’. in reality, maybe you had faster development in certain areas, but the issue with being a gifted kid isn’t that “everyone told me I was so cool and special for reading and then I actually wasn’t :(” it’s “I wasn’t properly taught to handle things not coming easily to me, but the adults around me were counting on me not being a ‘difficult’ child in school.”

people who use it as some weird bragging method or interpret it that way are ignoring the way a lot of school systems force certain roles on students to simplify the learning process. If your kid doesn’t need to take notes to understand a science concept bc they get it naturally, well that’s good, but now you’re not teaching them how to take notes and they’re not learning that important soft skill. but because ‘gifted’ kids are easy and don’t show that they’re falling behind in learning in other categories that are harder to quantify, they eventually fall behind after that catches up to them. It’s about the failures of a one size fits all school system trying to compensate in the worst way possible.

And also the thing where ‘gifted’ kids are super likely to also be neuroatypical, which they don’t get screened for because they appear to be doing well in school. Or “You can’t be ADHD/autistic/etc, because you’re doing so well in school!”. Or being shamed for developing mental health issues/generally not being able to keep up with school work later, because you USED TO BE able to do it just fine.

Or the assumption that just because you can read well or you like math class, you’re somehow more EMOTIONALLY mature than your little kid brain is actually capable of being.

Or gifted kids whose parents and teachers put immense pressure on them to Do Great Things and Save The World and you’re like. “I’m 10 and I have no idea how to do that, but everyone is saying that’s my job?”.

This is the best “gifted kid” post out there. I never took notes until college because I didn’t have to, snd when it got challenging I had to literally teach myself note taking at age 18. It also fucks with your perception of asking for help - you’re advanced, you’re competent, you should be able to understand every topic easily. Asking for help/going to office hours/asking for a tutor feels like failing when you were praised in your early years for not needing to do that.

This has nothing to do with your ability to hear at all. This is about your brain’s ability to notice or ignore the sounds your ears hear.

Your brain is receiving so much information from your senses that it cannot process all of it. So it tries to figure out which information is important, and ignores the rest. Some brains have more trouble than others differentiating between important sound information and unimportant sound information.

When people say they don’t hear buzzing, what that actually means is their brains are so good at ignoring those sounds that they don’t even realize the noises are there unless they deliberately make an effort to concentrate on listening to them.

audio processing =/= hearing

i can never write a soulmates au cause i very quickly stop thinking about romance and start thinking about the sociological implications of a world where soulmates are a confirmed verifiable thing

is casual dating a thing in a world where everyone has a soulmate out there somewhere? is it frowned upon? is there a movement of people fighting for the idea that you don't HAVE to wait for your soulmate to find true love? is it considered queer to be in a non-soulbound relationship? how does polyamory function? how about aromantic people?

is it guarenteed you'll find your soulmate within your lifespan? are you drawn to find eachother even if you're born a million miles apart? if it's the kind of universe with physical soul marks (ie. matching moles, first words on skin), are there medical options to change or remove your mark? would it be considered a tabboo? could someone fake a soul mark? could you catfish someone by pretending to match them? isn't there some kind of inherent horror in knowing destiny has entwined you with a stranger?

YES YES I NEED THIS SIGN IN EVERY SINGLE PARK PLEASE

This is my daily struggle, I had so many arguments with people with off-leash dogs (in a mandatory leash area!!!). Thanks to this behavior I'm struggling with Kim being anxious/aggressive with other females as she often gets involved in unpleased interactions with free females while on leash. And every single time that I ask for the dog to be at least recalled, I'm being called names and insulted of course.

Also 9 out of 10 their dog isn't really that friendly at all.

Also 9 out of

10 their dog isn’t really

that friendly at all.

Beep boop! I look for accidental haiku posts. Sometimes I mess up.

ID: the text on a sign reads:

“ “IT’S OKAY MY DOG IS FRIENDLY!”

NO! NO! IT’S NOT OKAY!

Just because your dog is friendly doesn’t mean other dogs are, some may be nervous, reactive, fearful, in training, or owned by people who want to be left alone.

NEVER LET YOUR DOG RUN UP TO ANOTHER DOG

RESPECT OTHERS AND THEIR NEED FOR SPACE

IF YOU HAVE NO VOICE CONTROL OVER YOUR DOG KEEP THEM ON A LEASH.”

"They say that a region's character follows that of its archon, and that this holds true both for the people and the land itself.
But was it the unfettered archon who bestowed a love of freedom and wine upon the land and people amidst conflict?
Or was it the people who nurtured the Anemo Archon's love of freedom as they pined for it amid the howling wind and frost?"
- Freedom-Sworn Sword lore description

If you think about it, Venti and Mondstadt itself is a reflection of the Nameless Bard's ambition and ideals. Venti carries on his friends' wishes and it's reflected into his entire character. It's not out of obligation as part of the Thousand Winds to carry them, but also because he also genuinely cares.

I know I'm reblogging this again but I have to add my own two sense on the matter. Most other auto manufacturers have had the stuck accelerator problem in the past due to floor mats and they have all learned a very important lesson: if BOTH accelerator and break are all the way down, apply the breaks and cut the throttle.

And even then they also have it so mashing the start/stop button or pressing and holding it kills the car

From that one report of the cyber truck crashing even when the brake was pressed, it seems like Tesla has not done their research and may not even have a contingency in the code for this. So it's a hardware AND software problem

From what I understand, it's not so much a design flaw as a production flaw; they made a change in manufacturing. They used a different chemical for something at some stage and that's what caused the pedal cover to slip off.

This was a failure of process.

I assure you, every major manufacturer in the world is either in the process of examining their processes to make sure that this particular issue isn't going to affect them, or has already done so. (I'm willing to bet that, in most cases, the investigation consisted of confirming that they don't use the chemical in question, along with some kind of "...because we're not idiots" notation in corporatese.)

What a lot of people don't appreciate is that corporate bureaucracy exists for a reason. Bureaucracy is the corporate equivalent of legislation-- every layer of it was born in red ink. As someone who has managed software deployments in production environment on systems used by millions of people each day, let me tell you, every step in that process is necessary. Oh, sure, it might seem like a lot of rigamarole for a minor change, but the problem is that people are notoriously bad at judging what a minor change is. I have personally been frustrated by a two-hour process (preceded by a week of paperwork, meetings, and approvals) to make a change in production that I knew full well would have no impact that, in actuality, took seven seconds and didn't require the traffic routing, load testing, etc. And I was right, it went without a hitch. Then two days later I spent fourteen hours on a call where half the system was down and it turned out that someone made a very similar change, and didn't say anything the entire time because he honestly didn't see how what he did caused what happened. "It shouldn't have affected anything!" If he'd followed process, there would have been no impact at all.

These tech bros think that they can revolutionize an industry by "streamlining the process" when they don't understand that the existing processes are the streamline. Sure, if they'd taken a week to test the impact of the change in process, it would have cost them a week, but it's gonna take more than a week to collect the information necessary to find out how much money this cost them. It's not just the cost of the recall and repair, it's the immediate impact this is going to have on sales, the long-term impact on consumer confidence in the brand, and, of course, a stock chart that looks like this:

That is a bad chart. And it's not going to get better.

Oh, look.

ok I know this isn't really the point but am I the only person who is absolutely gobsmacked that Penny Arcade somehow STILL EXISTS???

Holy shit, they got Voyager 1 working again!

15 billion miles away and NASA was able to tweak code packages on one of the onboard computers and it worked and Voyager 1 is sending signals back to earth for the first time since November.

Incredible!

One more joke hate: You may claim to be a woman but biologically you are a featherless biped and thus a man.

Finally a good argument for why I'm actually a man

if you told diogenes the cynic about being trans he'd be like "lol that's a sick troll you're epic" and you'd be like "diogenes no i'm serious" and he'd be like "lol that's even better lmao those guys are so mad about it" and then he'd start going by new original neopronouns every single day specifically to piss off the whole symposium

I just had an idea for a really dumb comedy sketch where a transphobe starts ranting about what really makes a women a woman, and diogenes returns each time with a different cis woman or outwardly femme intersex person that doesn't meet the criteria saying "behold, a man!"

"a woman has XX chromosomes"

*Diogenes with an androgen insensitive XY cis woman*: behold, a man!

"Nono, a woman can bear children!"

*Diogenes with someone who has medical complications associated with pregnancy*: "behold, a man!"

"nono, a woman produces the large gamete"

*Diogenes with a postmenopausal cis woman* "behold, a man!"

Trans Rights With Diogenes! coming to PBS

Some idiot: only women can produce eggs!

*Diogenes holds up a chicken* Behold! A woman!

do you all remember in the early 2010s where people were talking about freeing the nipple and that mixed-gender sports should become a thing and the removal of period tax and all of that and then some people realised that would mean trans people too ans they instantly decided to revert to bioessentialism 101 and now i have to see grating sentences like Well maybe jeopardy should be gender-segregated because males have a biological advantage in pressing a button
