A Dropsy gif I made!

Someone recently commented in my DeviantArt about Dropsy and made me remember about how much I love this game. What surprises me the most is how a wordless game can speak up to me so much! Beautiful scenarios, nice symbols and great art. Also, amazing soundtrack!

I can easily say it’s one of my favorite games!

Also, as a fan of Whistles and Andrew's sort of fascination with clowns, have you played/heard of a fairly recent game called "Dropsy"? The spoilerless version is it is about a horrifying looking, fingerless clown and his tragic quest to give everyone a delightful hug.

Avatar

What do you mean “fingerless”? Is this some sort of a horrorcore game where someone maims a clown and cuts off their fingers “The Walking Dead” style?

Stop hurting clowns. Seriously, what a way to describe a game.

But okay, I winded around it a bit and really, what a grotesque little thing.

Of course, my first reaction to it was suspicion. Not because I don’t trust clowns, but because I don’t trust developers; basically, since Joker from “Batman” has gained his fame (amplified only by the appearance of Pennywise in “It”), every media/story tries to sell us the idea of a clown as of grinning monster that will fuck you up badly and you’ll end up in need of intensive therapy if you even survive. We see bad clowns in anime (Bipierrot, Caesar the Clown, Piedmon and so on) bad clowns in popular series (Sam Winchester and his fear of clowns), hell, even Disney does it (recent movie “Inside out”)!

Oh, come on.

…so yeah, my first glance at Dropsy and his design (and lack of prominent features of whiteface and redface that point at harmlesness) made me go “he’s gonna murder somebody, isn’t he”.

But then, I watched the trailer.

…wow, what a neat, heartfelt story?

Sure, the design crosses some comfort barriers and I think it’s good that it does, cause it awakens some sort of unhealthy curiosity in person. If I had to compare backgrounds or designs to something, it would probably be the indie game “Lisa: The First”.

I don’t think this is even a good example, but it gives you the general idea

The thing is, “Lisa” is a really uncomfortable game that forces you to deal with delusions of mind of an abused person. “Dropsy” on the other hand, seems to be a story where characters that seem to be designed a little outside your comfort zone, truly are nothing to be concerned about.

Aww, that’s so cute

All it took me is a look at the screenshots on the Steam to change my mind about Dropsy - if this game is all about getting hugs, sign me up for it. Not to mention, there seems to be a whole story hidden behind the hugventure agenda I can’t help but  be curious about.

Seriously, what’s going on in there - where did you even ventrue to, Dropsy

Sad trees? Why are there sad trees (thankfully, you can hug them)?

So yeah, I’ll probably play this - maybe not in the nearest future as I’m going to be running on the tight schedule for some time since basically now, but I hope that anyone who can will have a great time!

Someone mentioned Dropsy!! The game is really great because it plays on the sort of "demon clown" idea at it's core. Dropsy's quest involves him solving a buncha puzzles in order to convince peeps to hug him, because no one ordinarily would, him being a horrifying clown and all. The only person Dropsy is able to hug from the get go is that lil girl in your post because she's his only friend. Dropsy might even be a trauma survivor since the game starts with a VERY Lisa-esque dream seqeunce.

This really makes the game all the sweeter. I heard people fell for the demon clown trope tho and some bought it cause they wanted to be scared and they… weren’t?

I can’t tell, but if there’s one thing I can say, it’s that Dropsy is adorable from all the animations I’ve seen and that this game is surely worth playing with how the visuals show it.
