I’ve had requests to post some of my older art on here, and since I have some new followers (hello there!) who are still discovering my non-otter-related stuff, it seems like a good time to do so. These are things that have already been widely Tumblr’d, but in the days before I had a Tumblr myself, so this is their first “legit” posting by yours truly.

LAZARUS [The Empty Hearse] Blackberry Black, Blueberry Black, Pomegranate Black, blueberries, red peppercorn

Bright and dark, the light at the end of the tunnel. A one-two punch of Blackberry and Blueberry teas, bolstered with the strong (narrative) resonance of Pomegranate. Sharp, bold, brisk, with a pop of red peppercorn simmering underneath like the threat of violence. It’s strong enough to revive you no matter how long you’ve been out of the picture. [Buy it here]

WHAT A NIGHT [The Sign of Three] Raspberry Black, Vanilla Black, Hazelnut Black, raspberry pieces, lavender

Wedding cake, tart with raspberries, with an unexpected note at the finish. Flavourful Raspberry black tea is smoothed by Vanilla and rich Hazelnut, and rounded out by the dusty bite of lavender. It’s a complex blend, and a welcome change from the usual, but don’t let your expectations lead you astray; although the flavour was inspired by a confection, it’s not nearly as sweet as it sounds. SHOT IN THE DARK [His Last Vow] Tiger Eye, Pu Erh Dante, Lapsang Souchong, cocoa nibs, red peppercorn

Tea with more than a passing resemblance to whiskey: smoke, peat, strength. Tiger Eye black tea and cocoa nibs lend this blend notes of caramel and chocolate, while Pu Erh Dante brings in a dark earthiness, and Lapsang Souchong gives it smoke. The addition of red peppercorn adds a necessary bit of bite to the edges. The combination is multilayered and complex, a tea that benefits from being heaped up by becoming deeper. Richer. More impactful. All in all, this drink is not a shot to be taken lightly. [Buy it here]

Points of Interest

  • John eats an awful lot of beans
  • Both Sherlock and John take milk in their tea
  • Their kitchen table has brown bread and butter on it
  • The fridge (when not holding heads) has a bottle and a can of beer, some hummus and what may be a bottle of water. In the door can be found a jar of peanut butter, a jar of marmite, and some I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter. Also either a single pickled onion or an eyeball
  • In the cupboard is a jar of pickled onions and a packet of Wotsits
  • On the side table, surrounded by scientific equipment, are what looks to be the jar of pickled onions, a jar of chocolate spread, and a jar of jam

Rooibos Vanilla Chai, Caramel, Chestnut, orange pieces, cinnamon, clove

A gaslamp to light up dusty-dark corners and burn away the cobwebs of a long hiatus. With Rooibos Vanilla Chai to bring in some warmth, Caramel Black for depth, and Chestnut Black for richness, this blend is sweet and gently spiced, redolent of steamed pudding liberally spiked with raisins.   • Possible apple theme already emerging? I’d like a second opinion, but to me it seems that the therapist's earring is an apple. An odd choice
  • At a guess, I’d say John’s meal at Angelo’s is seafood linguine or other seafood pasta dish. This continues the idea that John may be a pescetarian, much like Martin
  • The coffee John and Mike drink is labled Criterion, possibly bought from Criterion Cafe
  • Sherlock takes his coffee black, with no sugar. However, he only drinks a mouthful before leaving
  • John doesn’t specify how he takes his tea - one naturally assumes it’s white, no sugar, but this cannot be confirmed 
  • The John suggests at the end of SiP is Dim Sum - entirely meat or seafood/fish based.
