Floral Sleeveless Button-Up

I made this shirt last summer but never got around to posting it. I finally took the time to photograph it now that the weather is a little nicer, so here it is!

I found this beautiful floral fabric at my local Jo-Ann’s. This was the second piece of clothing I’ve made and I’m so pleased with how it came out! The arm holes didn’t come out perfect, but I’m hoping to get better at the technique with time. Sewing pattern is from BurdaStyle

Repurposed Sleeveless Button-Up

The warm weather is here and that means we’re clearing our closets of unused winter clothes. I ended up combing through Ben’s stash to find a couple of his old shirts that I thought I could repurpose. The first was the removable collar I made, next was this sleeveless button-up!

I cut the sleeves off and re-finished the arm holes (they had to be taken in a bit). I then shortened the length of the shirt overall and added darts to each side for a better fit. I love the style of this shirt and the texture of the fabric, so I’m glad I could give it a second life!

Collar Necklace

Spring is here - and with that comes Spring cleaning! Ben and I went through our clothes and cleaned out our closets for the new season. Typically we’ll donate it to our local Savers - but I decided to save a few pieces for projects!

I took this old white button-up of his and cut the collar off to repurpose it into a necklace. I’ve kind of been obsessed with collars lately (like entire Pinterest board obsessed) and wanted to make a few of my own. I’m thinking of selling some in my Etsy shop too?

Materials Series

I decided to start a little on-going project I’m calling the Materials Series. I thought it would be interesting to break down some of my amigurumis piece by piece to see exactly what goes into making them. I won’t be uploading these very often, but it’s a fun little exercise for when I have downtime.

It may not seem like a whole lot goes into making amigurumi, but what’s not pictured is all of the time, care and love that goes into the little guys! :)

Cozy Amigurumi Series

Meet this adorable crew - each sporting a cozy chunky turtleneck sweater to match their personality. I designed this series partly due to my obsession with turtlenecks. Stay tuned for more designs to come!

This year I’m trying some new things for my shop. I’ve been testing new designs in a attempt to create and sell more custom work. The goal is to start selling in pop-up shops and craft fairs. I’m so excited to be starting this new chapter for The B Hive!

New, Updated Sheik Design!

Sometimes I’ll get commissions that don’t follow through. It can totally be a bummer, but it’s nice to get the opportunity to go back and re-work my original designs.

So, I’ve made some updates. Mostly to her hair, which I feel so much better about the new design. I think this is a lot more true to the character now. I also downsized to smaller safety eyes, which looks much better. I definitely went through a phase where I thought the bigger the eyes, the cuter it’ll be, right? Well... I’ve realized that there is definitely a limit and I’m now more attracted to smaller eyes and more facial details.

Any-who, my old Sheik is up for sale in my Etsy shop! I asked Ben which version he’d like to keep and he loved the new design. I felt bad keeping them both, so I’m going to sell the old amigurumi!

Some big plans are coming up on the horizon. I’ve been spending the last couple weeks really thinking about my shop and what I’d like it to be. I’m so excited for what the future holds!

Sweater Scrap Choker

I’ve been cleaning out my closet and stumbled across a sweater I didn’t enjoy anymore. Instead of getting rid of it I decided to try my hand at modifying it into a couple projects.

I ended up cutting the collar and waistband off to make the sweater more of a loose-fitting cropped deal (post coming soon!) and didn’t know what to do with the scraps. Being slightly intrigued by the choker trend, I decided to make a chunky one from the waistband.

I cut and sewed the waistband into a size that would fit my neck snugly. I then added two snaps to complete the choker, and voila!

This was such a simple and quick project, I’d love to make more!

Handmade Toaster Sweater

We are still in winter’s clutches, which means it’s perfect timing to try my hand at sewing my first sweater. I found this gorgeous wool fabric at my local fabric store a while back - I was saving it for the right project and it was worth the wait!

This sweater pattern is from the lovely Sew House 7. I made a slight modification by making the bodice a little shorter to accommodate my frame. I just love all the touches of yellow, reds, and the mix of navy and black. This sweater is so cozy and the pattern was a dream!
