Girl Riots

@smellslikegirlriot / smellslikegirlriot.tumblr.com

Even today, the word "feminism" stand as an ambiguous term that refers to those "man-haters" or those "feminazis" maybe? Well this blog was created just for that reason, to celebrate true essence femininity and feminism! Feminism, which is rightfully the idea that celebrates and deems no part in undermining the strength and beauty of a woman. Your stories, photos, artwork, articles, poems tips and your opinions are greatly encouraged. This is our blog.

New Inspiration?

Hi Guys,

I’ve been searching for the right moment to let you know how thankful I am for this blog and the space it’s created--forever grateful for your support.

Personally, the last year and change have been hectic and I haven't been here as much I’d love to. Thanks for sticking with us!

I did want to say, I’ve found new inspiration for this space! Particularly, I’d like to write more. The interest of the followers has shifted overtime but I think I want to get back to doing something more substantial here-- maybe even more fun stuff with products and such??

If there are an topics of interest or anything you’d like me to research, be a part or give my opinion on, do let me know! Also, I’d love to hear about other movements and projects you all are a part of.

Cheers,

-Sade

Under the new rule, hospitals, abortion clinics, and other health care facilities are prohibited from disposing of fetal remains in sanitary landfills. Instead, they must finance cremation or burial of the remains. Texas made this clarification in response to outrage about privacy concerns.

Check me out, front and centre! This photo made international news!!

We had a collective of about 20 radical feminists marching for International Women’s Day in Melbourne, and there were enough of us that we could do our own chants and everything (we did a call and response chant of “name the problem” “male violence!”)

There were some anti TERF/SWERFs trying to antagonise us but we just ignored them and stood strong. Really felt like a victory for the radical feminist movement in Australia :~)

Today is International Women’s Day, and Planned Parenthood is proud to celebrate all women who embody the spirit of resistance, leadership, and strength. Reblog and tag a woman who refuses to be ashamed of who she is — and who you can’t go a day without.

“STOP ANTI-TRANSGENDER VIOLENCE” – “FOR THE UNKNOWN VICTIMS” – “CHANELLE PICKETT: NOV. 20, 1995,” premiere of “Boys Don’t Cry,” San Francisco, October 1999. Photo © Rink Foto. “Boys Don’t Cry” is the Oscar-winning film based on the life and brutal murder of Brandon Teena (December 12, 1972 - December 31, 1993), a trans man who would turn forty-four today. Chanelle Pickett, referenced by the demonstrator on the right, was a trans woman of color who was strangled to death at age twenty-three; her murderer, William Palmer, was convicted for simple assault and battery after pleading guilty and employing what is commonly referred to as the “trans panic” defense. He served two years. #lgbthistory #HavePrideInHistory #RinkFoto #TransLivesMatter #BrandonTeena (at Castro Theatre)

  • On the heels of its campaign ad featuring Muslim athletes, Nike is taking a stand against discrimination.
  • The athletic wear company announced the release of the “pro hijab,” Al Arabiya English reported on Monday.
  • “The Nike Pro Hijab may have been more than a year in the making, but its impetus can be traced much further back, to an ongoing cultural shift that has seen more women than ever embracing sport,” a statement from Nike said, according to Al Arabiya English.
  • The “pro hijab” is set to be released in spring 2018. Its creation follows years of controversy regarding Muslim women keeping their hair covered during athletic competitions. Read more (3/7/17 11:10 AM)

You know what’s sad, before I even read this article I was ready to refute this because I grew up believing Chuck Berry created Rock and roll. It’s said how so many knew of this great woman yet none spoke on her greatness.

I also discovered Big Mama Thornton, who’s another hugely influential early inventor of rock and roll — I’m pretty sure Hound Dog was originally popularized by her, before Elvis stole it.

Love Sister Rosetta Tharpe! #BlackGirlMagic

A few of her performances:

Also I heard she was bisexual…

Happy Black History Month!

She was a BEAST

I love her so much.

This is cool for so many reasons.

Any kid should be able to play with any toy and with something like a doll it’s awesome that boys can see themselves represented.

We went to the Women’s March on Washington to ask our fellow marchers what they had to say to Donald Trump and what brought them into the streets today. Over the next couple of days we’ll be posting some of their stories. Here’s one woman who’s a first generation American who says she feels devastated to think that her parents would not be welcomed into our country today.
