i promise its not ableist when people say you should try things that arent kids shows and fanfiction

people are not understanding that this isnt saying you cant like kids media because if thats what i meant i would look like the biggest goddamn fool right now. this post is about how limiting your interests to fandom is damaging to critical thinking but some adults refuse to leave their comfort zones because it makes them feel stupid and use their autism or adhd as an excuse to continue being ignorant. honestly i think its worth feeling a little stupid sometimes if it means learning more about the world and people around you

You want to know why Inigo Montoya remains such an iconic and beloved character even 35 years after the Princess Bride came out?

It’s because he’s one of the few characters in fiction who has a story where he has dedicated his life to revenge, his whole motivation is about getting revenge….and he gets it! and then he isn’t empty or despairing! he doesn’t regret it! he’s totally satisfied!

because so many stories about revenge or rage are about characters “seeing the futility of their actions” or learning “their desire for revenge has only made them the monsters they hated” FUCK THAT.

Inigo Montoya kills the man who kills his father, is allowed to live in the narrative after and be happy about it and it is so satisfying. it’s fantastic. it’s iconic.

let more characters rage against the world, bring it down with bloodied hands, and let them be FUCKING RIGHT about it. Let them celebrate their success with sharp grins, and let them live happy, full lives where they always remain proud/fulfilled for what they’ve done

Another thing that set Inigo Montoya apart from other characters with vengeance arcs is that Inigo’s vengeance drove him but it didn’t consume him. He was wronged and wanted - needed that injustice to be corrected - but his vengeance was focused. Rather than taking his pain out on the whole world, Inigo was a charming, pleasant, good-humored person that treated everyone respectfully, even folks he was fighting. He even asks politely to people he meets about any extra digits they may have.

Would a bitter, angry, vengeance-consumed man swear on the life of his father and help a guy he was planning to duel, then give him time to catch his breath? Would he hand his sword over to his future opponent to lovingly show off his late-father’s skill as a swordmaker?

“You seem a decent fellow. I hate to kill you.”

I think part of what makes Inigo so iconic and beloved is because while vengeance was his story, it wasn’t who he was, so when he achieved his vengeance it was less an emptiness and more of a satisfaction, a story completed, a wrong made right, and a man suddenly baffled at the possibilities before him, not sure what his next story would be.

Rewatched The Good Place for the first time since s4 dropped and. Oh my god. The Good Place said "people are a result of their environment but we always have a moral responsibility to be better" and The Good Place said "every day the world gets a little more complicated and it gets a little harder to be good" and The Good Place said "even in the face of total nihilism, when nothing you do will matter, you still have to at least try. Because trying is better than the alternative" and The Good Place said "if you have bills to pay and shit to deal with you don't have time or energy to become a better person" and then The Good Place really said "people get better when they get external love and support. How can we hold it against them when they don't " and THEN The Good Place really said "no one is irredeemable. Everyone can try to be better today than they were yesterday" AND THEN! The Good Place said "Heaven is just enough time with the people that you love" OH MY FUCKING GOD.

sex workers fought in the street for you to be able to celebrate pride. sex workers rights should be an essential part of the pride celebration. I'm dead the fuck serious.

I love that so many people have mentioned Marsha P. Johnson in the tags, or made comments about black trans sex workers bc I know that includes Sylvia Rivera, but this post isn't just about them. This post is also about the kids who worked the streets of Greenwich Village who fought until the wee hours of morning on the first night of the stonewall uprising, even though THEY WEREN'T THE ONES THAT THE POLICE WERE TARGETTING THAT NIGHT. this is about those of us who have been fighting new censorship laws tooth and nail, the same laws that are now being used against trans and queer kids across the country and around the world. This is about the sex workers who tirelessly educated the public about safe sex methods during the AIDS crisis, when the government wouldn't even acknowledge that it is a sexually transmitted disease. Sex workers have fought for liberation from the very beginning and have CONTINUED to fight. we don't get to forget that our lives are considered "deviant". we are faced with that reality every single day, but many of us keep fighting for all "deviants" to be free to love, fuck, and live.

Every deviancy law that has ever been closed has been closed by a dog pile of sex workers tirelessly working to do so. Men, women, enbies, old sex workers, eighteen year olds who are homeless and angry, abled, disabled, black, white, latine, every race or ethnicity you can think of, but they all dogpile together on shitty laws and shitty authority figures and FIGHT for you. No cops at pride, keep the sex workers: cuz family friendly means you take care of the family that takes care of you, not sterilizing a protest for marketability.

"family friendly means you take care of the family that takes care of you, not sterilizing a protest for marketability."

fucking. this. thank you. 💜🌈

oh blessed art thou automobile for you have served the meek and humble. go on your way knowing your act of kindness has saved me 2 minutes on my trip to the bodega

If we were to rate movies just by how accurate their titles are, Drive would be considered the greatest movie ever made

Star Wars 2/10: We’re told it’s a rebellion.  This implies a war but it’s never outright stated.  Also the fighting takes place in space and on planets and space stations.  This would be like labelling a contemporary war film “planet wars”

The rest of the titles in this series are worse with one exception: Attack of the Clones: 6/10 This was so close to a higher score!  The clones are deployed in response to a buildup of materiel and attempted extrajudicial execution that is construed as an act of war- The title should have been Retaliatory Strike of the Clones.  Even Counter-Attack of the Clones would have been acceptable.  Nevertheless, despite a rocky, non-clone beginning to the movie, there are clones and they do attack things.

Jurassic Park: 3/10 While there is a park, it contains dinosaurs from all the eras of the cretaceous.  Only dinosaurs, not any other form of prehistoric life.  Honestly, I was generous with this rating.  Sorry Spielberg, I’m just used to expecting more out of you.

E.T. The Extra Terrestrial: 9.5/10 Much better fare from Spielberg.  It’s about an extra terrestrial named E.T.  Non-E.T. containing scenes may be important but take away from title accuracy.

Iron Man: 2/10 This early entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe should have been called Iron-Plated man, but he doesn’t even use iron for most of the movie and only drops the name near the end.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas 10/10 This short holiday tale shows the delightful planning and execution of a theft of every material trapping of the titular holiday by the titular character.  Though his intentions may have been subverted, there was nothing left to steal, I feel justified in a full rating.

Fight Club: 5/10 Falls victim to what a lot of movies do.  Fulfills the basic premise of the title (has a club for fighting) and then messes it up with some sort of message delivered by an unreliable narrator.

The Matrix (1999) 10/10 At first it looks like this movie is going to take forever to get to the actual Matrix but then reveals you’ve been trapped in it the whole time.  Further, the titular Matrix fulfills at least one and probably several of the dictionary definitions of A matrix.

Seven Samurai ?/10 So the Samurai are unemployed, which technically makes them Ronin, but over the course of the film they define themselves by serving the people they agree to defend.  Accuracy of the title may depend on if you think titles and rank are rigidly defined by the system or if our actions define ourselves.

WALL-E: 10/10 That little robot sure is named WALL-E.

The Never Ending Story: 0/10

1hr 32mins

Goodfellas: 2/10

These fellas were not "good" they were criminals, actually. However many of the characters can accurately be described as "fellas."

There Will Be Blood: 10/10

There was.

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly: 6/10

It is dubious to define Eastwood's character, "the man with no name" as simply "good" however he is more righteous than the other titular characters. Lee Van Cleef "Angel Eyes" was "bad. Lastly where the film loses most points is calling Eli Wallach "ugly" cuz that's mean.

Bad Times at The El Royale: 10/10

Oh man those were some really bad times at The El Royale! I wasnt sure how bad they could really be but boy howdy were they bad for all those people really. I almost feel I should deduct a point for the film not being titled "Very Bad Times at The El Royale." perhaps if they make a sequel that should be the title.

The Thing: 10/10

Fuck dude it sure is

when people defend the “Cis white guy is default” thing like “He’s meant to be an everyman we can all relate to and project on!” kindly remind them the largest ethnic group in the WORLD is Han Chinese and the highest gender percentage fluctuates so if you want an ACTUAL  “default” you want a 40 year old chinese person whose gender changes from year to year.
