For those that don’t know, there’s a semi-famous story of a wildlife photographer who had her camera stolen by some monkeys she was taking pictures of. When she got her camera back, she discovered one of the monkeys had taken a selfie, and she published the image in a journal as a “look what happened” kind of story. PETA, being the insufferable waste they are, took it upon themselves to sue the photographer, claiming that because the Monkey took the picture, the monkey owns the copyright and thus the photographer was not allowed to publish it. The courts ruled this whole thing stupid and that now art can only be considered protected by copywrite if it was made by a human. So, this “only made by humans” ruling could easily apply to AI as well, meaning Hollywood is gonna screw themselves over if they try to replace their writers with bots.

Leftists on the internet nitpicking Jonathan Glazer’s words and downplaying what he said about the violence in Gaza meanwhile everyone to the right of liberals is having a full scale five alarm meltdown calling for Glazer’s head and saying he’s a self-hating Jew for daring to say what he said so maybe it’s time to get some perspective girls
Someone in my mentions (who was very well intentioned so I won’t reply directly) said that, while the nitpicking is stupid, what Glazer did does not count as activism. And, frankly, normally I would agree. When an Academy Award Winner gets on stage at the Oscars and makes a call for morality and justice it is often self-congratulatory back-patting. But, Glazer was the only person on that stage who even said the word “Gaza.” He said it knowing full well that Hollywood has been actively blacklisting people who even acknowledge the Palestinian genocide. Glazer’s speech and the one given by the Zone of Interest sound team remain the only speeches not uploaded to theOscars YouTube channel. I cannot take the quibbles over his syntax or whether or not what he said counts as activism when the freaking ADL is out here like this. Perspective.
