[ID. A poem titled 'I have to tell you', by Dorothea Grossman. It reads:

I have to tell you, there are times when the sun strikes me like a gong, and I remember everything, even your ears.

Also, in honor of National Poetry Month, please rec me your favorite poems, poets, and performances!

Some recommendations I have for you:

  • Keaton St. James ( @boykeats ) - poet with a lot of gay, trans, queer, and Christian/theological themes. very much one of the people who inspired me to pick up that pen again and get serious.
  • Kwame Alexander - whose children’s poetry collection Out of Wonder I’m using in my preschool classroom to take my three-year-olds’ new interest in rhyming toward building a joy for poetry.
  • @inkskinned - who I couldn’t seem to tag the first time around. please check them out; you’ll feel warmer once you do even if it’s because of a fire they reminded you of and reignited in your chest. beautiful prose to be found as much as poetry, and I’m not sure where they draw the line.
  • Luka ( @conceptualsolitude ) - whose second book of poetry I bought way back when and, while it’s not on this hard drive, know I really enjoyed; follow the link on “Luka” for that.
  • I haven’t read enough poetry by Nikita Gill ( @meanwhilepoetry ), but she wrote one of my favorite poems.
  • Button Poetry - a YouTube channel that’s good for starting your foray into slam poetry, I mean, at least that’s where I’m doing it, and then drifting away, and then coming back every couple years. TW for violence, specifically historical violence against Asians including that by America, in the video I linked.
  • consider checking out my #poetry tag - for mostly work by other people, with some of my own (including embarrassing old stuff and very quick stuff, because I’m hoarding my favorites for publishing eventually) sprinkled in

And my other recent great big push to write, probably the greatest, was Maya Angelou. Here’s the Poetry Foundation’s article on her with links at the bottom to several of her poems. If you just have time for one, I wanna suggest “The Mothering Blackess” (and you’ve probably heard “Still I Rise,” but if not- you should read or listen to “Still I Rise”).

I really like the word “smitten”. because at first glance you just think of sappy lovey-dovey stuff but also you have to remember this is a word that’s born of the word “smite.” a devastating word. a word that, summarized, means stricken. smitten means stricken as well — struck with devastating affection.

the old guard perceive the people at gojo as a threat because they're young and fit. hugo piling food on his plate and defending himself as having a high metabolism. logan dies of a pulmonary embolism and lukas is regularly drawing half a liter of blood. we don't see people naked in a sauna we see karl and frank outside in bathrobes. roman can't even look at his dad's corpse. body horror but the horror is a 'normal' body
